RARE antique old vintage Macey stacking barrister bookcase MISSION section + top
Up for auction is a rare 3/4 size mahogany Macey mission-style bookcase section with matching mission-style top. Original glass and hardware. Original finish has the alligator-skin texture to it. The section also has the original Macey label inside it. The top is solid and retains the original brass arm on the back that enabled this bookcase to"attach" to the one next to it. Section measures 25" long. 11" tall, 12.75" deep. Top measures 25" long, 1.5" tall, 12.75" deep. Section + top weigh 21 lbs. No damage. Just needs to be dusted off. This Macey tiger quartered oak doublewide(barrister) 5-stack bookcase with wooden panes(panels) is a fantastic piece. In great working order; all door mechanics functioning. Ca 1900-1920. Stamped Macey(Fred Macey Mfg Co) Very good to excellent overall condition nicely aged patina inside and out early dark finish and door glass looks to be all original. The close up photos provide extent of wear. But the four photos from 3 to 6 feet of the entire piece and both sides give an idea of the overall appeal. Two small bottom door knobs not original. Top has scratches/scuffs. The bottom legs have dings and normal wear to the finish. There are a few small wood niches on front surface(does not detract from the piece) Insides are very good with minimal wear; backs are very good with one of five stacks having significant rippling(can not see it from ... morethe front or when flush to the wall) Will work with you to arrange pick up at your expense(no shipping) our location is a convenient spot in lower Manhattan NYC; elevator building(no steps) Breaks down into 5 pieces for easy transport. 69” tall. 48” wide and 12.5” deep. Rockwell-Wabash Barrister Bookcase Section Very nice find. Rockwell-Wabash stuff never shows up. Measures out the same as an"E" size Globe Wernicke or Macey. Original finish. Has the step back board, compatible with"E" or"D" size stacks. Quarter sawn oak. Uses a hinge/slide system nearly identical to the early Globe system. NO door knob or glass. With a few bottom parts this would drop right onto a Globe or Macey base. As you can see in the last picture a Globe top(or section) fits nicely on top. The Globe top in the picture is NOT included. The bottom board has been broken then nailed back on backwards, it looks bad like it is but simply needs to be flipped and glued. This is a mahogany top that I believe fits a Macey stacking barrister bookcase. There is no label. It measures aprox. 34 1/4" wide x 11 1/2" deep on the bottom x 12 1/2" deep on top x 3 1/4" high. Up for sale is this barrister bookcase base and top. There is no label so I don't know the precise maker. The base is missing its bottom panel. There is some veneer loss/damage to the top along with other wear and tear, so please know that these are a refinishing project. The top measures about 34" across and 12" wide including the lip on the very top. The base is about 12 1/2" wide including the lip at the very bottom, and 34" across. The last photo shows how the top fits on a Macey D12 section, those sections are about 11 1/8"

I believe this bookcase was purchased used by my father in late 1930s. Mahogany or walnut. I'm not sure. Good condition for its age but sliding glass door for 1 shelf not sliding smoothly& probably needs repair. Door knobs are plastic, not original Macey knobs. This is a really great quartered quarter sawn oak barrister bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyer's bookcase or a stacker. We have refinished this piece and it has a smooth, even, and authentic finish. An unusual bookcase-note the following: ball and claw feet, drop front desk with fitted interior(waterfall style) 3 storage drawers(1 in the base and two below the desk) a graduated unit with the bottom clear(original) glass being 13.5 high and the leaded glass(original) top unit being 9.5 inches high. Note all the original Macey signatures remain. The overall size of the piece is 34 wide, 14 deep, and 60 high. This piece from an East coast home and was purchased with our stock number 14952-a Macey case identical in height and finish but with a different configuration. Adorable half size barrister stacked bookcase. Sometimes called a lawyers bookcase. Piece is executed in quartered quarter sawn oak. Completely professionally refinished with a smooth and even finish. Graduated size in that the bottom 3 stacks are 11.5 high and the top stack is 9.5 high. Very nice looking all original early 1900's Macey 3 stack barristers bookcase. This one is in very good condition with all original wavy glass and great looking tiger oak. Dimensions are 57H X 34W X 14 D. A few minor imperfections such as the hole thru the back of one of the units.It won't be noticeable when you put books in in though and a small chip of wood missing out of the corner of the bottom unit. Also the base is a Globe Wernicke pull out drawer unit from the same time period which has been refinished.This has been given a light coat of Watco oil to bring out the patina and finish.Local pick up ONLY.Though I will deliver in the tri state area for an extra fee.Contact me for details.Pet and smoke free home. Globe-Wernicke & Macey Barrister Bookcase Section and base - 8 inch inside depth

This base section is marked Globe-Wernicke. I do not see any maker's name on the bookcase section but am sure it is Macey- both fit together well. I believe I refinished both of these about 35 years ago when I did a lot of restoration work with barrister's book case sections- they are ready to use. They are the standard length of about 34 inches. But I believe the 8 inch inside depth is narrower than most Globe-Wernicke sections I used to have. To be more specific. The measurement from the inside face of the door to the front of the back panel is 8 inches. The overall height of the bookcase section measured on the outside at one end is about 10.5 inches.
