As I look at the brass feet and hardware I think of a Czech/Bohemian art glass common in the late 1800's. However. As I have had it on display, I have had comments that the paintings are similar to Mt Washington. By the way, the enamel paintings are very intact and still with lots of color. Looking closely you will even see some of the fine gold accents ... moreremaining. All the hardware, top& bottom, is secure. No chips, cracks or repairs. There is only very light surface wear in the form of rubs or light brushing marks. I really don't know if some of this just part of the painted design or not. There are no scratches or damage to the glass. It is 5 7/8 inches tall and 3 1/4 inches across at the widest part. I can't find out anything about this lovely vase. It has a rough pontil. Is about 5 1/2" tall, 3 3/4" wide at top. There are lots of little air bubbles and marks and one straw marks I think shown in the fourth picture. I think this is a very old piece of glass. This auction is for a gorgeous pair of blue opaline glass vases with hand painted enamel flowers and gilding. They measure 4" tall and 2 1/2" across the tops. There is quite a bit of loss to the gilding overall. Especially on the feet and around the rims of the vases. There are two very tiny chips on the underside of the rim of one vase, one the size of a pin head and the other the size of a pinprick, as shown in the photos. There is no damage to the painted flowers. To my eye, the damage does not at all detract from the beauty of these pieces and I have to really look hard to see it! From the bottom, a pale blue to white at the top. Tiny white flowers are scattered, some with enamel dots at center. Leaves in gold gilt, vines in iridescent pink and green berries frosted with white. Circa 1860's- 1890's. Bristol Glass was incredibly popular during the"Aesthetic" period when natural motifs were so desired. The enamel and painted designs are highly detailed. The vase hand blown and nicely translucent. The gold gilt is outstanding. A fine piping of gold encircles the bottom and at the transition near the top. No nicks. Chips, cracks or flea bites and no repairs. Looks to be hand enameled with a winter scene and gold trim top and bottom. There is a makers mark on the bottom(pic 8) it is faded/ worn but I can read Paris and 1878. There is wear to the gold trim at the rim, some scratches on the bottom from where it sat on a shelf and a tiny flea bite(pic 6) Overall a beautiful piece! Each measures 9” tall and 3-1/4” in diameter at the base. They are hand blown with pontil scars on the bottom of each. They have flower and leaf decorations in colors of green. Red, cobalt blue, blue and white with gilt enameling. The rims, edges of pedestal and foot have a gilt highlight. When held to the light the glass shows a lot of fire. They are unmarked. One of the vases has an age split on one side near the bottom as you can see in the picture below and it appears to have been there a while. The vase won’t hold water. I have seen several of this vase/ box antique glass containers. They seem to be for whatever you wish to use them for- one person stated that they were often used as shaving jars for men. Another said they were spill vase humidors and my favorite is a vase on top and treasure keeper on the bottom- the top is self contained so it can be filled with water and used as a vase. Pair of Antique 19th Century French Hand Enameled Aqua Opaline Glass Vases
These elegant antique 19th century French hand enameled opaling glass vases are sure to get noticed. They were created sometime around 1871 according to the purchasing estate. The aqua color is rich and vibrant. And is a rarer color found in antique opaline glass vases. The hand enameled birds. Flowers and vines are very thickly painted, and stand out against the smooth glass. Each vase boasts a beautiful bird among vines and flowers on one side. And a flower with vines on the other. They are gilt trimmed. And the top is surrounded by a beautiful ornate design. The vases stand 12.75" tall by 4" wide. I can find no maker's mark. There is a chip on the bottom of one vase. Being offered is a beautiful antique Victorian era hand painted Opaline"make-do" double portrait vase. This charming piece measures 13 1/4" tall and weighs 2 lbs 6 oz. The condition is very good with a few minor flea bites to the rim(see picture 9) and wear to the gold gilt on the rim. The base has been broken off and has an old wooden treen repair. The wood has a age crack(see picture 5) but the repairs is still strong. The exterior has a pink wash with a well painted double portrait and foliate designs. Pr 19th Century French Opaline Bristol vases with Hand Gilt Detailing Stunning!!
Here we have a pair of stunning 19th century French Opaline glass or Bristol vases. They are covered in hand painted gilt detailing. They are grand& elegant with a weight of aprox 1 1/2 pounds each. The hand blown glass is thin with a gorgeous translucent effect. They are filled with the stray bubbles and both contain pontils to the base. There are no chips or crack just some gilt rub around rims as shown in photos. Some very minor flaking to hand painted design. What an amazing addition to your fine collection. Two antique French opaline vases - ca 1850 - hand blown - hand painted
This was another tough one to research. Two beautiful. Hand-blown, 5" tall French Opaline vases. They are a beautiful milky-white with the inside top flowing out a lovely pink. Hand made around 1850, this particular style of French glass was very popular. I could not narrow down the maker, but I found a few very similar in color and design. I do know they are not Fenton, Vallerysthal or Baccarat. But there are so many others that the process of elimination would have been a little labor intensive. Being essentially lazy, I will ask that if anyone out there knows who the maker is, I would love to hear from them. The vases are in excellent condition. No scratches. Cracks or chips. Because of their age, the gold applique is worn in spots, but the painting is still perfect. I spotted a couple of"bubbles" in the glass, but that ... moreis common. Up for auction is a tall antique white opaline Victorian vase with with a square body and opening at the top and a square rounded base. The front side is decorated with white and gold enamel flowers and foliage. The back side is decorated with blue abstract flowers and foliage. The two remaining sides are decorated with black lines making a tree with white enamel dots. The rim and base have gold edges or lines. There is some wear to the gold on the rim and base. The rest of the gold and paint are in excellent condition without any problems. The vase stands 12 3/4" high and measures 4" x 4" across the top. Dark brown to milk chocolate ombre effect. White footed base. Originally had gold on rim& gold ring on base but that is almost completely warn away. Around under side of rim is a pattern of"V's" dots. When held up to light, the vase is semi-translucent. The shape is fabulous. This is a hand blown piece as evidenced by the rather rough pontil on the bottom. It is a translucent white glass with a very faint hint of color. Very light gray or blue-gray, with a sky blue ruffle at the top for a colorful contrast. When a light is shown through the vase it displays an opalescent hue and a few larger bubles are evident.
