Two Antique Or Vintage Mercury Glass Ribbed Vases - Heavy Glass
This auction is for a pair of vintage mercury glass vases with a ribbed design that measure 7" high. 3" across the top and 2 3/4" across the base. One of the vases had floral designs painted on and I couldn't tell if the other had been painted, but they are both pretty shabby looking. They are in fair condition with losses to the mercury finish, but no cracks or chips and these are heavy glass, so from what I've read, they are very old. There are holes in the bottom of the vases and I believe this is common on this type of glass. Before bidding. This lovely pair of silver mercury glass vases would be a fine addition to any collection. While they are not exactly the same(an indication of their age and the fact that they are handmade) they are a good match. They do have the usual cloudiness. Spots and other characteristics of old mercury glass, which for collectors just adds to their charm. The holes on the bottom from the blow pipe have been taped off to preserve the silver. Here is a matching pair of Early 1900 Antique Mercury Glass Vases with matching Hand Painted Flower Design. The Vases stand 9 1/4" tall and are 3 1/2" across at the widest part. There is no chips or cracks. The mercury is very shiny. The painted flowers have wear. The bottom is as shown one has a plug of sorts the other has old tape which I will leave. The bits of red tags on the bottom look original so I will leave them. Hard to find in pairs and hard to find this size. Pair of Antique Mercury Glass Painted Vases 8 Inches tall
These two mercury glass vases are a pair. But(not uncommon with old mercury glass) they have aged very differently. One is cloudy; the other is not. For most collectors, this is not an issue; it only adds to their charm. They both have the same hand painted floral motif and classic shape. They are both 8 inches high and 3 1/2 inches wide at the widest point. The hole on the bottom from the blow pipe has been taped off on each of them. What I do need to note is that the darker of the two has a piece of glass chipped off from the inside. It is not at all visible from the exterior. I don't know much about mercury glass so if you have specific questions. Please ask. The silvering is wearing on these so I did not attempt to clean them in any way. One has a little wear to the silvering and the other one has a lot of wear, especially around the bottom. They are hand painted with a matching yellow daisy type flower. With an overall width between 1.5" and 1.75" Two pieces are decorated with white flowers and/or leaves, the third is painted with two red flowers and green leaves. Condition: Very Good- previously owned/used. Displayed antique Mercury Glass- NO chips, cracks or repairs- each vase has been"re-sealed" with a putty type substance- there is some wear to the painted decorations- I do not see any deterioration to the silver interior.
