Up for auction are a beautiful pair of hand blown. Amethyst vases with gilding along the top edges. The decoration is done in Mary Gregory style with white and pale colored enameling. On one vase is a young girl in Victorian dress with a basket of flowers. The other vase has a young girl in Victorian winter clothes in a snow scene. A few tiny specks of the white enamel paint is on the vases which occurred at the original time of the painting. See photos. There is slight wear to some of the enamel consistent with the age of the pieces. The expressions on the faces are charming and beautifully done. These vases would be a wonderful addition to your collection. The silver plated holders are by Wilcox Silverplate Company with crossed hammers in the maker's mark located on the bottom of the holders. The vase is characteristic of enamel decorated Victorian designs produced by a number of Bohemian glass factories and decorating studios working in the later 19th century. The vase is very well executed with thin wall and rich cobalt blue color to the mold blown flared form. The white enamel décor features a Rococo inspired gent standing amidst a garden with outreached rose(these were typically produced as pairs) The hand painting shows very fine detail and nice depth/ shading throughout. I found this at an estate sale. The condition is wonderful. There are no chips, cracks or repairs on it. The vase is hand blown and rendered in a fantastic turquoise blue. This jar stands 7.5" tall and is about 3.5" at its widest. The painting is wonderfully whimsical; this looks like Eros getting into trouble as usual. His finger is to his lips: Shhhhh. One of the features I particularly liked about this piece is that it is embellished all the way around the bottom and the top with beads of enamel paint. Did you notice the bottom? First. Mary Gregory vase - cranberry glass - antique Victorian 19th c- Boy Butterfly
This is a beauty! An antique cranberry glass Mary Gregory vase. Which hails I believe from the 19th century, Victorian era. This vase features a boy reaching for a butterfly. This has a unique form. With a lovely top that is cut in an attractive beveled design. There are two little swirly clear glass accents, one on each side of vase. This measures 9" high. Base is 3-1/2" wide, width is 5-1/4" at widest point. There are some bubbles in the glass. And wear marks to the base. There is a small smudge of white to the above left of boy's head on outside of vase. It almost looks like it could be the painter's fingerprint. Otherwise. Very, very fine condition! Here is a pair of antique cranberry glass Mary Gregory vases. Which hail I believe from the 19th century. These vases feature a man and woman facing one another. They measure 8.5" high. Top is 5" wide, and base is 3-3/4" wide. There are some bubbles in the glass. And the glass is rimmed in gilt in 4 circles at base, and also underneath rim at top. There are just a few minor flea bites. Or nips, underneath the rim of vase featuring the man. Otherwise, very, very fine condition! Shipping is by standard mail unless buyer prefers otherwise. This was an estate purchase and I believe dates to circa the late 1800's. The top has a tiny ruffled/crimped design and bulbous body with a long neck. It measures 10" tall and 2 3/4" across the base. It is in very good condition. This vase is over a 100 years old and does have some wear on the gold paint although this is not glaringly obvious and is evenly worn.
