The Art of Chokin Vintage Trinket Box Japan Japanese Art Bird Flower GORGEOUS!!
This is a GORGEOUS vintage Art of Chokin Flower and Bird trinket box perfect for your collection! I wish I could give you a year that it was created. But alas, I cannot. I can guesstimate that it is pre 1932 simply because it only has the stamp JAPAN on the bottom, not"made in Japan. After 1932, the United States required the"Made In" stamp to be put on all foreign imports. The artist signature is on the lower left corner of the top of the box. This box is in BEAUTIFUL shape, no knicks or dents. It is 3 1/2" long x 3" wide and stands 2 1/2" tall. The inner lining looks to be an ochre colored veveteen material. The hinges are in great condition. Made in Japan' with marks that match a mark for Bibi. I found this online about this mark: Might be the mark of a shop or trading company that commissioned pieces for sale. And got pieces from various kilns marked like this. The mark occurs on several pieces of which some are almost identical to Kutani. Recent information has it that Bibi is the name of a family import firm that imported porcelain from Japan to Lebanon during the 1950s and 60s. This porcelain had a Bibi mark on it and was sold in Beirut. The family might also have had a porcelain import business in Palestine in the 1930s and 40s before they were forced to flee in 1947. This covered box is done in lovely sage green and cream colors with lavender and amber flower designs. As well as some other colors that are not so prominent. See photos, please. The dish, with the lid in place, measures approx. 5.5" tall, and 5" square. Vintage/Antique Japanese Rectangular Handpainted Porcelain Lidded Geisha Box
Vintage or antique( I really don't know which) large rectangular lidded box is hand painted all over with a very unique and colorful design on its sides. The box measures 8 1/4 inches in length. 4 1/4 inches in width and 3 1/4 inches in height with the lid on. It does not have any visible cracks. Chips, or repairs, but someone has applied a thin layer of a matte white paint of some sort( looks like flat house paint) around the top of the lid and box. I'm assuming to make it look cleaner and whiter as there does not seem to be any other reason to do this. I have not tried to scrub that off, and will leave that up to the buyer. It is very heavy for its size weighing over 3 pounds. So this will ship in a flat rate shipping box. Normally, I would welcome ANY questions, but if your question is to ask me what those markings say, I have ... moreNO idea whatsoever and cant provide any answers there, so please understand. To be honest. I'm not even sure that it's painted lady is that of a Japanese Geisha or if it's of a Chinese maiden painted there on the lid.
