A lovely. Antique porcelain hand painted trinket box with Sevres-type mark on underside and"Limoges, Made in France" stamp. The box is nicely painted with scattered flowers, gilding, and brass trim on a green ground with convex lid. Interior has two scattered flowers. Size: 5.5" x 3.5" x 2.25" high. ANTIQUE DRESSER BOX FRENCH? PORCELAIN LATE 19TH-EARLY 20TH VERY GOOD CONDITION 6" X 5" X 3" I LOVE this box. The more one beholds it. The more its character expands. This is a large box and is old. It was sold as being from the late 1800's, and from other porcelains that I have handled, I believe this is the case. It could be from the very early 1900's. This is very fine porcelain, and it"feels" like French porcelains, however, I can not find this mark and do not know the maker. It does have a"Coat of Arms" on the top and is signed"Suisse" which is an old form or European form for Swiss. It is large and heavy. It is in Very Good condition with no chips or cracks. The brass has only very minor to no tarnishing. The hinge works well and is fairly tight. There is no catch for the lid of the ... morebox, so it does open all the way up. Antique French Limoges Style Patch Box Napoleonic Eagle
Antique French Limoges Style Patch Box: this patch box was found in the Paris region of France. It is a small porcelain box with a Napoleonic gold eagle on the lid and the classic torch and quiver on the front. There is a blue under-glaze mark on the bottom. The inside has small gold leaves painted on the underside of the lid and the bottom. The bronze hinge and closure are sound and in good working order. Overall condition is excellent with no chips cracks or crazing. Patch box: small. Usually rectangular, sometimes oval box used mostly as a receptacle for beauty patches, especially in the 18th century. During the days of Louis XV, black patches of gummed taffeta were popular with fashionable women(and sometimes men) who wanted to emphasize the beauty or whiteness of their skin. The patches varied in form and design from simple spots. Stars, ... moreor crescents to elaborate animals, insects, or figures. Patches had their own tacit language: a patch at the corner of the eye could indicate passion; one at the middle of the forehead could express dignity. Women sometimes carried their patch boxes(which sometimes also contained rouge) with them. A gift of a patch box could be a costly expression of admiration and sentiment, for they were usually gold, sometimes enameled or painted with amorous scenes and encrusted with jewels.
