This is a beautiful old Victorian hand painted porcelain patch box of two Victorian women and an angel. The top has a c-clasp to close the top and it opens and closes securely. I am not sure what the metal is- possibly brass. The hinge has a slight movement in it when you open the top. But is secure. This patch box is 2 1/4' wide and 1 1/4" high. Here is a unique. Late 18th century patch or snuff box. It is hand painted and features a young man in a grey wig placing a rose in his companions hair. She is quite lovely and sits demurely beside him. Its' uncommon trefoil shape has brass mountings. The base also has a raised trefoil shape, painted gold. There is an underglaze blue mark dating from 1787- 1800. I had to loupe the mark as it is not the clearest. I have spent a lot of time, comparing both the French and German marks. It has an open circle at the top of the"X" and a horizontal line where the lines cross to form the"X" This appears to be correct and of the time period. I can't read it for sure. This is all handpainted with a nice rural scene on the lid, tiny floral designs on the remainder of the body both inside and out, gilded base. It measures 2 3/8 x 1 1/2 x 1" approx. and is in good condition with no flaws that I can see. The hardware appears to be brass or bronze and the lid snaps shut tightly. Green leaf garlands go around the top and bottom sides. The inside of the lid says"Maitre de Chapelle" The inside of the bottom has 3 blue dots. The bottom is marked.
