Most of the rosettes have a chip and there is a little loss to decoration. There are no other chips or cracks and it still displays nicely. It is marked with the Conta& Boehme mark with 93P impressed. This piece is ca 1850 to the 1890's. This particular trinket box is unusually appealing with the full figure of a baby reaching for some fruit in front of a mirror frame, topping the lid. Still has original inserts and measures about 3" long and is about 2 7/8" tall. Unmarked. Has a chip to her hand, and a chip at the end by her feet, but it is practically insvisible. It was likely made before 1890 when the McKinley Tariff act required foreign goods be marked with country of origin. Children atop fairings seem to have been a fairly common theme for Conta& Boehme. However. We were unable to find another one like this which depicts a little girl washing an article of clothing in a tub. We believe the mirror is original. It shows a few signs of age yet the mirrors are so often missing from these. We didn't attempt to clean the piece. Our inspection revealed a firing glaze inside the bottom of the box. Wear to the gold and enamel, and two old chips underneath the lid that aren't otherwise visible. This would be a nice and uncommon addition to a collection of Victorian fairings. Beautiful large porcelain trinket box. Victorian baby in a bassinet with a toy doll. I believe this is made by Conta& Boehme. But it may be Staffordshire. 496" is stamped on the bottom(which is in line with the Conta& Boehme mold number) There is a break to the foot of the child's doll(shown in pictures) I do not see any other chips or cracks. The lid fits, don't know if it's a set, depicts an open book on a dresser. Lid has missing item broken off, and a large chip behind it. 3 1/4" x 2 1/2" x 2" Item# 5& 6: Staffordshire? white porclain Queen's Crown. Sword& Sceptor lid, no chips, a little orange& gold paint remains. Box has a tiny hole in the porcelain that has brown discoloration around it. Pretty blue paint on the corners, most of the gold has rubbed off. No chips. Has numers/prices written on both pieces that don't wipe off with damp cloth. This is a wonderful Conta& Boehme Fairing Trinket box. The makers mark is inside the lid. The box measures appox. 3 1/2" tall. 2 3/3" long, and 2" wide. It is in good antique condition with 3 of the flowers having chips and some gold trim paint missing from age. The little girl is hand painted along with her doll. An antique porcelain fairing trinket box or dresser box by German company Conta Boehme. Titled"A Little Turk" and featuring a little boy with a Turkish fez, reclining against some cushions and smoking a hookah. Conta Boehme produced a series of these boxes with different themes but easily discernible general pattern. The original seal. Item number as well as a very smudged"Made in Germany" is under the lid. Item is in great condition for its age- I could find a single hairline on the right side in the front(as seen in photos) and no other chippings or breakage. General age wear as expected and the colors as well as the gold gilt is faded in spots. Age is presumably late 1800s. Early 1900s. Trinket box weighs 8.3 oz. These were souvenirs of country fairs during the 19th century and while the modeling is often crude. They are charming and often humorous. Most were made in Germany. This fairing has the Conta& Boehme shield mark and depicts a small child and dog on a dressing table. The dog is licking the child's face with great affection. The fairing is about 4-3/4" tall. 2-7/8" wide and 2-1/4" deep. It has a very little paint loss and no chips, cracks or repairs. Only a couple of the rosettes have some minor chips and there is a little loss to decoration. There are no other chips or cracks and it still displays nicely. This does not have the Conta& Boehme mark but has been attributed to this company based on the base design. This piece is ca 1850 to the 1890's. Antique 1860-1880 German Conta and Boehme Fairing Box, Children Playing on Sofa
This sale is for an antique German Fairing Box that was manufactured by Conta and Boehme and is Circa 1860- 1880. The Box features three children playing on a sofa. This Box is featured in the book"Victorian Trinket Boxes" Page 98. This Box is painted in very light blue with white and has Artist Number 13 on the inside of the Box. The Box is 3-5/8" tall, 3-1/2" long and 2-3/8" wide. There are no chips, hairlines or repairs but there is a split or cracks on the back of the Box. The Box is sold as found for that reason. Antique Conta & Boehme German Porcelain Fairing Trinket Box Child w/ Cat Kitten
This porcelain trinket box measures approximately 3 1/4" tall. 1 1/2" wide, and 2 3/4 inches long. It is marked under the lid with 144, the shield mark, and 188. This was made by Conta& Boehme of Germany and would have been won or purchased at a fair probably in the late 1800's. The color and gold gilt are in very good shape. Two of the applied flowers have chips, one in the front is very small, and one in the back has a larger chip. There is one very small line on the back of the box that appears to be under the glaze. It looks like the porcelain separated a little during production and is not too noticeable. There is a little bit of crazing, but overall this piece looks quite good. The striped gray kitten is adorable! Please see my pictures and thanks for looking! I always package fragile items securely and with care.
