From Spoonplanet website: The quality of the silver and gold enamel workmanship during the Czarist era in Russia is the best that the world has ever produced. The works of Faberge are world renown. But many other silversmithing firms also flourished and their magnificent creations are very highly prized today. Most works of this kind sell in international auctions, and the really big special pieces bring astronomical prices. Cloisonne is technically a much more difficult process. The basic spoon is created. Then very small wires are soldered onto the spoon creating the cloisonnes or cells. These are then filled with enamel and fired. The process may be repeated several times until the desired effects are reached. This process is very skilled labor intensive and is seldom used today. Champleve is a newer much simpler process that is still used today. The cells are created during the casting(or die creation) stage of production and then filled with enamel and fired. This requires much less skilled workmanship and is cheaper to produce and sell. The Soviet era spoons using this enamel technique. 18th. Century English enamel snuff box. Probably battersea. This snuff box has three scenes please view photos as description. The scenes are transfer. Dimension of this box are height 1 1/4" width 2 1/2" depth 1 5/8" Condition of the box is good for its age. The hinge works fine and the lid closes tight. There is fracturing of the enamel. Dating to circa late 1940's. The box is covered in a beautiful floral decoration with brightly colored flowers and leaves. The background is a stunning deep turquoise blue which catches the light wonderfully. The box rim is a deep cobalt blue. Old Antique Oval shaped Pill Box- Size is alittle over 2 inches long. Width is almost 1.3 inches. Depth is 3/4 inch. A Bilston or Battersea King Charles Spaniel enamel Bonbonniere, Circa 1780
Here is an extremely rare circa 1780 Bilston enamel bonbonniere of a red and white King Charles on a pink cushion. The bottom is painted with a lovely spray of flowers. The approximate dimensions are slightly over 2 inches by 2 inches and almost 1 and 1/2 inches tall. To my knowledge it is in excellent unrepaired condition. There is the tiniest of hairline cracks on the inside lid but you cant even feel it with your fingernail. The oval shaped box measures approximately 5" long. 3 1/2" wide, and 3" tall. It is made of blue porcelain and features a brass etched edging, hinge, and clasp. The bottom of the box is marked with someone's initials and/or scribbles and the number"582. Condition: The porcelain is nice and smooth. There is a high spot on the lid. But this appears to have been from its making. The brass shows signs of discoloration. The clasp does not hold tightly to the box, so it does not close completely. Antique French Kiln-Fired Enamel& Bronze Mounted Jewelry Casket Up for auction is an exquisite 19th Century French kiln-fired enamel and bronze jewelry casket. It measures 4-3/8" x 3" across the feet. 4" x 2-3/4" across the top corners. The height is 2-3/4" to the peak of the domed lid. Unsigned. But I believe this to have been made in S è vres for TAHAN. The luxury French goods purveyor. The five convex enamel panels are lemon yellow and decorated with white and green lily-of-the-valley and tiny coral blossom accents. Each of the panels is outlined with a frame of tiny glass"pearls" Some of which have an opalescent cast, and each of which is set into a finely beaded gilt circle. The dor é bronze framework is patterned with a braided chain design. It has a piano-style hinge at the rear. The ... morebox is raised on four leaf-scrolled bronze feet. The bottom: Condition: Three of the five panels have tight hairlines. Shown greatly enlarged below. Characteristic of the age and type of enamel; they do not overly detract. Napoleon III French Sevres Enamel Kiln-fired Gilt Jewelry Box Casket
A superb antique French Napoleon III era enamel and gilt jewelry casket. Adorned with five enamel on copper panels of a gorgeous Sevres'Celeste' blue accented by a jeweled border of raised white enamel dots and gilt accents. Each panel is centered by a painted floral cluster of gorgeous flowers. Stunning against the vibrant blue background. Such vibrant colors and amazing detail is quite difficult to achieve in the art of fire-kiln enamel on copper. Th e enameling was likely by one of the masters of Sevres who worked with enamels. Similar to Bresson enamels with raised jeweled dots and the quality of Limoges enamels. The hinged lid opens to reveal a padded tufted and tucked silk lined interior. This is a large& rare example being aprox 7 3/4 inches long. I would consider this piece to be in very nice antique condition for its ... moreage. There is one white dot gone& a small chip in enamel by top of lock( really not that bad. Small see photos. Cloth lining on bottom has been cut a way, most likely due to age& wear. In addition, lid panel sits down a bit from frame& back left leg sits up about a 1/8-1/4 of a inch, so there is a rock. I would not try to adjust legs& just leave it as is. You would not want to crack a panel trying to adjust. As you can see this is a fine and rare antique that is very sought after. Again, the size makes it extra special. There are some hair line cracks both top and bottom, and the mirror is badly cracked. What condition would you be in after 200 years. Antique French Sterling Silver Pill Snuff Box Compact Hand Painted Enamel Scene
What a precious little box I have to present today. This amazing treasure is hand painted porcelain with a romantic scene of a couple chatting while the dog tends to the sheep. The underside is a farm setting with the windmill in the background. There is rub area to the bottom from"Centuries" of sitting on a surface for use and show. I was told by a jeweler that this piece is French and dates to 1732-1738. Small 3 1/2 inch porcelain container box. Beautifully colored and decorated. I am not sure who the maker is as it is not marked but it has a faberge look. Box is all hand colored enameled with beautiful coloring. A cobalt blue and blue turquoise background. It looks quite regal. You might know more. All outline trim is done in bright gold gilt. This is a rare Battersea Bilston box with the title“Scarboro Cliff Bridge” I tried a Google search but came up with no other example so it must be rare. It has some fine hairline cracks on the top and bottom. See the photos. There is some residue on the bottom from a sticker. The box is delicate and I’m afraid to scrub at it. This is a rare Battersea Bilston patch box inscribed“ A Present from the Iron Bridge” The Iron Bridge in Shropshire England was the first arch bridge made from cast iron. The bridge was opened in 1781 so the box must be sometime after that date. This box must be very rare as a Google search does not find another like it. It measures 1 5/8” x 1 3/8” x 7/8” tall.
