Limoges France" and also signed on the bottom. I don't know who the artist was. Height- 6 3/4" Condition: There are some white marks. I am not sure if this is wear or if they were always there, they seem to be under the glaze. There are no chips or cracks. There is some soiling on the very bottom interior. THE BERNARDAUD STORY: The story of French porcelain begins in 1768 when a woman from the village of Saint-Yrieix La Perche near Limoges discovers a soft. White clay that she uses to bleach her household linens. Experts would identify this substance as kaolin: the crucial, long sought after ingredient that is responsible for the resiliency, durability and flawless iridescent translucency of fine porcelain. The search for this“secret ingredient” had lasted four centuries since Marco Polo’s discovery of Chinese porcelain. The discovery of kaolin in France marked the birth of industrial and cultural significance of Limoges porcelain. Against this historical backdrop two enterprising industrialists. Noticing an increase in consumer use of porcelain dinner services, open a factory in Limoges in 1863. The construction of railroad lines in the area offered means of distribution of their product to more markets. A workshop apprentice named Léonard Bernardaud distinguished himself among the workers. Twenty years later, he would be promoted to head of sales and later named partner. Léonard Bernardaud acquired the company in 1900 and gave it his name. He increased production capacity of the factory and opened up new markets. Notably in the United States. Leonard was succeeded by his sons, Jacques and Michel Bernardaud. The brothers would assure the viability of the company during the turbulence of the Great Depression

This is an antique French dresser box. Oval and bombe shaped. Sevres porcelain with the mark of the studio" Chateau de Longpre" and the word"France" on the bottom. The strong colbalt blue color is accented by the gold design, hand painted and hand designed. The handpainted scene on the lid is that of a pair of lovers in a garden. The artist who signed this box is"A. Grisard" and the signature is located on the left side of the painting. The lid opens to reveal roses on the inside of the lid and bottom of the box. The lid is framed with the ormolu and is hinged on the back side. It opens and closes well. The only wear on this piece is little considering the age. Which must be over 100 years. Some of the gold painted accent edge is slightly worn where you would hold the box while opening the lid. There is some ... moreage and patina on part of the back hindge. This auction is for a antique porcelain hinged trinket box. There is an artist signature on the cover. But I cannot read it. The box measures approx. 4" x 3 3/4" x 1 3/4" H. There is a small area on the cover where the porcelain has pulled away a bit from the metal. The cover is not resting exactly even over the base, and I don't want to bend, for fear of damage. It is quite minor. The courting scene on cover has the man playing his instrument, while her's lies next to her. There is heavy gilding all over. Front scene is a soft blue with trees. To the left of that, looks like a garden path. There is no marking on the base, but this is truely a quality piece. Always happy to combine wins to save you on shipping cost. Much more than a trinket box.this lovely collectible box was made in the USSR in 1989. The information on the base is in Russian. There is a Hallmark stamp on the base, and the artists signature on top of the box. The 3rd photo shows the tapered top of the box& under the blue waves is a signature in gold writing(difficult to decipher the name) The images are fantastic. Archers, village people, swans on the water, homes, castles, bridges.remarkable detail. Nice vintage/ antique hinged box. It has a raised enamel design with hand painted flowers, it has a footed metal base it looks like it has been reattached at some point? there is a shine to the glue around the footed base the hinge and clasp good. It does look like the back where the hinge is attached on the inside has a been bent( see picture 10) it has no cracks or chips in porcelain box the raised decoration has some spots that are missing( see pictures) If you have any questions please ask

Charming and unique AKD France limoges rectangular lidded trinket box on an octagonal tray. Hand-painted design of lovely art nouveau lavender flower bunches with spring green leaves and gold gilt accents. Colors become muted around the flowers as if in a watercolor. So pretty! Box is stamped on the bottom A K D FRANCE and is also etched with artist initials that look like P. L. Very good condition. The gold gilt along the edges and on the tray design is worn in places and there are some age-related smudges and marks on the bottoms. But the porcelain itself in in very nice shape with no chips or scratches although there is one little grayish smudge along the side of the box(I've since removed the little reddish spots on the tray) There's a tiny nick along the edge of the tray that looks like it was caused during manufacturing as the ... moregold gilt has been applied over it. This is a dainty set. The box measures only 4" long and almost 1 1/2" wide. Height is about 1 1/8" Lid measures 4 1/4" x 1 5/8" Tray measures 5 1/2" x 3 1/8" A rare art nouveau find. Original- Artist Signed, Handpainted doubled handled covered dish, BEAUTIFUL!
Up for auction is a totally original Hand Painted double handled covered dish with beautiful pastel flowers. This artist signed item measures 2 3/4" tall including the handles and 5 7/8" in diameter. There are no losses. A perfect example with rich pastel coloring. I cannot make out the name. But I think the first name is Mary? During the first quarter of the 20th century ladies would learn to paint china blanks and then have them fired. These either remained with the family until the line ended or were given as special gifts. There is no porcelain house stamp. Many of the blanks at that time were either of French or German manufacture. Perfect addition to your antique china collection or for your shabby cottage. Would make for a very nice gift too. The porcelain box and cover are mounted in a hinged metal frame. The metal mountings appear to me to be solid brass ormolu. But I am not an expert and they could be bronze dore. The exterior of the porcelain box has a lovely pink base color and is elaborately hand decorated with gold florals and flourishes. As well as two portraits(both portraits are transfers) of beautiful women, one a brunette the other a blonde. On the obverse is a musical themed decoration in gold depicting horns& sheet music and on the reverse is a large gold floral cartouche. Inside the box. Under the lid and in the very bottom, are colorful and skillfully 100% hand painted ... morefloral decorations against a white background. The top of the box is artist signed with a hand painted name that appears to me to be“Sineb” to the right side of the brunette’s portrait. The porcelain base is marked with a hand painted mark in cobalt consisting of“crossed arrows” and the letters“E” above and“G’ below. It is also marked with“made in France” hand painted in red. There is also a very old worn paper label still adhered to the bottom. It does have some markings but is mostly illegible. Using a loupe I can see what appears to me to be either“898” or“1898” But nothing else. This crossed arrows mark was used by many firms. Most notably the Bourdois& Bloch/ Achille Block firm in Paris, France, which has been in business since 1887. A similar mark to the mark on this piece. Without the letters, is shown as mark H on Page 132 of the book Kovels’ New Dictionary of Marks: Pottery& Porcelain 1850 To the Present by Ralph& Terry Kovel. I have for you this evening a very fine large example of a ladies dresser powder box made in Bavaria and artist signed"F. Williams Mc. C. This fine piece is made of a very high grade heavy but delicate translucent porcelain and is decorated with gorgeous pink roses on garland vines with foliage. The artist was obviously very skilled at painting floral designs and has done a magnificent job of translating the difficult medium of roses onto the porcelain canvas of this fine and elegant masterpiece. The cover and the upper portion of the box bare the rose motif and the remainder of the body and the center of the cover are toned with a pink blush making this a most appealing and desirable find for any porcelain collector. The feet are gilded and the trim elements as well. This is a rare beauty and would make a fantastic gift for that lovely ... morelady in your life or for any collector of fine porcelains. Dimensions and dating: All measurements are approximate. This piece measures 4" tall with cover in place and is around 4.5" wide at its broadest point so a nice large size.
