For your consideration is this Beautiful Antique Porcelain in Sevres' Style Jewelry Box. It has a lovely scalloped edge with a pale yellow background. The floral designs are in beautiful condition with the largest on the cover. A hanging basket of flowers adorned by a purple bow. The only flaw in this piece is the crack which runs from the top right side of the lid to the bottom right side. It is a clean crack and can be repaired. Other than that, this jewelry box is truly exquisite. The dots of white paint are raised in a harlequin pattern, with raised gold hand painted scroll work. The hinge is original and in working order with no dents or bends. The box is 5 6/8" in diameter and 1 1/4" deep. Circa 1920. Vintage Sevres style DRESSER BOX Porcelain Cobalt & Gold w/ Cherubs Putti on Lid

Porcelain Cobalt& Gold w/ Cherubs Putti on Lid Maker: Has a Sevres-like hallmark but is probably made by someone else. I am not familiar enough to know for sure. Hallmarks: The bottom has a blue hallmark of the twin“L’s” and an“R” inside. Above that is a three dot triangle. Pattern: Simply gorgeous hand painted cherubs/Putti on the top of the lid. Done in pastel colors with a soft blue and white background. The faces are professionally painted. I’ve looked at hundreds of pieces to see if I can say for sure that this one is or is not(I think it is not) Sevres and many of the imitations have badly painted figures and faces. The sides of both base and lid have a deep cobalt blue background with gold paint. The flowers are flat but the stems. Shield-like ... morepieces and the dots are raised. The insides are pure white. Size: It is about 6” round with the top opening of 5” and the ring that sits on the table is 3-3/4” round. The lid is about 5-1/2” round. The bottom is 2” tall and with the lid on. It is about 3” tall. Total weight is 1.8 pounds. Features: There is a brass collar around the opening of the base. This collar has a small piece on its side(see photo#10) which looks like a 3/8” long solid tube– no openings. Since there is no sign of a corresponding piece on the lid. I’m baffled at its purpose. Inside the gold circle that surrounds the cherubs on the lid there are tiny raised dots– a bit bigger than the gold dots that are painted on the blue. I’m not sure what they are made of but they are painted gold. Some puzzle as to its maker but the design is intricate. The quality is evident and the painting is very professional Personalization: No personalization. Condition: The painting of the cherubs has two flaws– both I think were in the manufacturing. Fine quality vintage French Sevres style heart-shaped porcelain trinket box of large size. Beautifully moulded lid with rococo scrolls and shell decoration highlighted in gilt over a cobalt blue ground with the coat of arms for the town of Menton to the centre. The base has a continuous band of gilt scrolling decoration. The resort of Menton is situated on the Mediterranean south-east corner of France close to the border with Italy and became very popular in the late 19 th/early 20 th centuries with visiting European aristocrats. The base is impressed with a hatchet or axe maker’s mark and sits on three conical supports. This is an antique French dresser box. Oval and bombe' shaped. The Sevres style porcelain carries the mark of the studio as being"Chateau de Longpre" with the word" France" on the bottom. The strong cobalt blue color is accented by the gilded gold design and hand painted scene on top of the box and the floral interior. From my research I believe this studio work is from the early 1900's. There is very little written regarding Chateau de Longpre. The hand painted scene on the lid is that of a pair of lovers in a garden. The artist who signed the box is"A. Grisard" and the signature is located on the left side of the painted scene. The lid opens to reveal roses on the inside of the lid and bottom of the box. The lid is framed with the ormolu hinged on the back. The lid opens and closes fine. Size: 8" ... morewide 3" high 5" Dept Condition: The only wear I see is a slight wearing off on the gold painted accent edging. This is I believe from the item actually being opened and closed. There is some age and patina on part of the back hinge. This may or may not have been repaired in that area. But I cannot tell for sure. This box has been in our family 50+ years and was purchased at auction in the Middle East. It has been carefully tended since then. I see no other chips or damages in the porcelain. The painting on the cover features a partly disrobed Venus with Cupid watching a pair of doves. It is not artist signed. But is Very Beautifully hand painted and has very fine detail. The floral decoration. Inside the box and out, is also superbly painted. I am confident that this is no later than a mid/late 19 th century box. Possibly earlier. The age is obvious when you examine the box. You can see the age especially on the inside edges of the box where the porcelain seems unfired around the ormolu mounts. The box is marked on the base with ... morea Sevres Double‘L’ mark with an‘S’ underneath it. The mark is Hand Painted overglaze Blue. I would like to think this is an authentic Sevres mark. But I have been unable to confirm it. Whoever made the box did a Very Fine job! It is a large box measuring 8.25" long. 5.75” tall and about 5.25” deep(21.0 x 14.6 x 13.3 cm. It weigh s about 1 lb. 15 oz. The box is in Excellent Condition with only a couple of minor issues. There is a firing crack about 3/4” long on the inside of the base. This is a manufacturing flaw and does not go thru to the outside of the box(shown) Also. There is a small, flat flake/chip on one of the feet at the narrow end that measures 1/8” in diameter(shown) Otherwise the porcelain is in excellent condition with no other nicks, chips, cracks, scratches or repairs. ALL of the painting is in terrific condition with no flaking or fading and no marks or scratches anywhere on the surface. The gold trim is also in excellent condition with only minor wear on some high spots. The ormolu does not have any breaks or loss or repair. There is nothing for the clasp to catch on. But I’m not sure that there ever was. All in all. This is a truly excellent box

From my research I believe this studio work is from the early 1900's to 1940's. The most unusual feature to me is the hinged OWL that closes the front. I cannot find any information on this feature but it is truly unique. The hand painted scene on the lid is that of a pair of lovers in a garden.
