Testrite compasses were made in both Germany and France but this particular one is marked"Made in France" on the dial. It was most likely manufactured in the 1930's or 1940's. The dial is silver plated metal unlike many which have a paper dial. The case is brass and measures 1-7/8" 47mm) in diameter x 3/8" 10mm) thick. It has a heavy, beveled edge, glass crystal. There is a ring loop(bail or bow) attached to the case at the South(S" marker on the dial. Fully functional and accurate with no liquid inside. It has a transit lock damper controlled by a lever on the side to prevent movement of the needle when you have fixed the position of the compass or when you are carrying it. The silver metal dial has indications/markers for the Cardinal and Half-Cardinal points. The needle is tinted dark blue for the North indication. The compass is in very nice condition. The bail or bow is secure. The crystal isn't chipped, cracked, flaked, or chiggered, the case is free of dents and dings, and the needle is sensitive and accurate. A rare. Antique, French porcelain bronze fitted jardiniere, planter. It features 2 transfers with hand painted enhancements of 18th Century romantic scenes. It has gold trim on a classic Sevres blue ground. It is fitted with brass beaded rings to rim& base& four brass feet. See my other auctions for the Sevres tazza seen in the last photo. It measures about 8" 20 cm. tall& 7 1/2" 19 cm. in diameter. It is in very good condition with no cracks. Chips or stains just minor gold loss& paint rubbing commensurate with age. Up for sale is an antique pair of MP Sevres urns recently found at auction in the Suburban Philadelphia. PA area. The tops have been repaired, but not well. This is best seen in photo's#4-8. The only other condition issue to report is a loose bronze band or collar under the lid. This is best seen in photo#9. There is also a few minor chips on this rim. These tops are marked"MP Sevres" This pair of urns measure approximately 5 7/8" diameter at the base and are approximately 11" tall. Each base is marked, Made In France" They are bronze. Description: Antique 19th century Porcelaine de Paris hand painted snuff box. Made by the French porcelain factory of Marc Eugene Clauss(1868-1896) Beautifully decorated in a raspberry colored scale pattern. To the lid is a brightly colored bird framed by gold gilt accents. The base is modeled with a ribbed edge adorned with gilt foliage. Encircled by hinged gilt bronze mounts, further enhanced by a scrolling foliate motif. The box opens to reveal a gilded interior. Measures 2 1/8" length x 1 5/8" width x 1" tall. In very good antique condition. Marked with a pair of blue crossed swords between the letters E and C for Marc Eugene Clauss, grandson to the factory's founder Jean-Marie Clauss who took over the Porcelaine de Paris factory in 1820. Antique Samson famille rose covered box French
This rose colored box has a rose done in relief on the top. The piece was made by the French firm Samson and is in the style of famille rose porcelain made by the Chinese in the 18 th century. The box is 5 ½ inches tall and 4 ½ inches in diameter. It is marked with the pseudo mark used by Samson. It dates to the late 19 th or early 20 th century. There is no damage to the piece but there is a firing flaw on the inside lip of the lid. It is shown in the pictures. Signature confirmation is included in the shipping price. This is a stunner- a wonderful porcelain footed dresser box with cast brass feet and bird and floral motif. It is marked B& CIE(Limoges? and is in great shape. Minor yellowing on part of the lid. Porcelain is handpainted with design- no chips or flaws. It is lined with a buttoned silk padded top. The silk has some wear to it. Box measures approximately 5x5 x 4.5" tall. Painted with bright colors, and with gilt, ormolu banding, finial and flanking handles. The box is oval-shaped on the ends and marked in brown on the base with the capo di monte"Crown N" mark. And"FBS Hand Painted Made in France. Approx. 9" long by 4.5" deep by 5.5" high. Has a Capodimonte design. Obviously borrowed from the original Italian producer. Very nice condition. No chips or cracks. This box features 8 small dark-haired. Hand-painted Puti cherubs. 10 children, 4 birds, and other decorations like floral. Half of the box design repeats on the other side. The upper part has 6 cherubs( 2 with torches. The other 4 lounging) while on the bottom part each side has 5 children: ... moreplaying leapfrog. Using a stick as a riding horse, lying down watching) and the ends have 2 facing birds on either side of the handles. It's mounted on a gilt-bronze metal frame which has an intricate banding. It also has a gilt-bronze finial on top. Hinged lid opens and closes with a snug fit. NOTE: The hinge is perfect-no gaps or separations! Traces of old glue are present on the bottom part and underneath as shown in pics. This box was purchased at an esta te sale of an elderly woman. This is a very beautiful work of art. Wonderful big french porcelain dresser box decorated on the top with handpainted portrait of the lady from the 19th c. wearing a purple dress. The lace parts of the dress are raised. The white beaded decoration is around the gilded frame of the painting. The color of the box is delicate light green. Very tasteful. The gilded raised pattern is on the main part of the box and on the border of the top cover. Great condition. No damage, no chips, no repairs, no hairlines. The mark is green underglaze MR France. MR initials are incised in the middle, handpainted initials SAZ(signature of the painter) 97 stands probably for ca 1897. The MR is a Limoges company.
