Bright polychrome floral enamels decorate the outside border of top and outside body of the bottom section of box. The top has beautiful pheasant bird going after insect. Really a unique piece and quite lovely. It is a large box at 5 3/4" tall and 7 1/2" square. It is set in footed bronze mounting. The hinges are in good condition and the box closes snugly. This is marked Made in Austria. This box has a circle indent. Made have been a make up case for lip stick, or for balm. It is different than the little limoges type boxes, thick pottery and glaze. FRENCH FAIENCE VEUVE PERRIN CHINOISERIE PORCELAIN TEA CADDY
Delightful French Faience Veuve Perrin 18 th century tea caddy in excellent condition. Two Chinese scenes set in exotic landscapes with birds and flowers on sides. Measures 5 1/2" high by 3" wide. The VP maker's mark on the bottom hints that this piece was made in the fayence manufactury sometime during the period of 1748-1803 by Veuve Perrin in Marseilles. France. The Perrin manufactory was founded by Claude Perrin. When he died in 1748. His wife Pierrette Candelot managed the company. Under her leadership, the manufactury became well-known for superbly decorated items, including snuff boxes. The black"VP" mark means"Veuve Perrin" or"Perrin's widow" The Veuve Perrin manufactory was closed in 1803.

It is marked with what looks like"JAP" on underside. It is definitely French in origin as I have found the identical"JAP" mark with"France" added on another(probably later) piece of faience. Box measures about 3 3/4" wide. About 2 1/2" deep and about 1 5/8" tall. It is in excellent condition overall. There are a few minor flakes at the edge of the lid(see photos) The lid sits on the base, flat edge on flat edge, with no groove or foot. It is possibly that the box originally had a metal mount of some sort. There is a little bit of what may be some adhesive residue on the top edge of ... morethe base which has a slightly greenish color. The box is very nicely hand-painted with a stylized scene of a bird in a landscape on lid and flowers around the outside of the base. A nice piece for your collection. NO RESERVE.
