A very rare find. This box is actually made for trapped cicadas. In the ancient Chinese culture the cicadas have been believed to have mystical powers of life after death. Crafted in the shape of the cicadas wings, this box has two hand painted scenes depicting the Emperors quest for eternal life. Painted on the back(his past life) this scene(reads from right to left) has his men chasing the cicada toward him so as to catch and lead him to his new after life. On the front, this scene has the Emperor moving forward in his eternal life. The box has holes on the lid so as to hear the lovely songs of the male cicada. Today, for a more practical use would be a storage for your favorite potpourri. Our research dates it early 19th century. It is in mint like condition with no defects, just normal ware from age. Rare Antique Glass Hanging Salt Box
For auction is an unusual antique hanging salt box. While most are made of ceramics or metal. This one is made of clear glass. While the pictures don't show it clearly, the word'SALT' is embossed on the front. The box probably had a wooden lid at one time but it is long gone. There are some very minor flakes around the hole for hanging it on the wall and at the top of the bump in the back. There is also a flake on the inside of the front top lip that can be seen in the next to the last picture. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition. There is a bubble in the glass on the rear of the piece but this is a manufacturing flaw, not damage. it is 5 1/4" square, 4" tall at the front and 5 1/2" tall at the back.

Antique Sevres Jewelry Box - Rare and collectable
This is a Sevres Jewel Box with a hinged lid decorated with hand painted Cherubs. Bronze or brass relief feet in the shape of a swan with long neck folded down and wings folded back. The top of the box is adorned with a metallic figure of a cherub with a book. This may be gold plated or a very realistic gold color. There are 4 roses that also appear to be metallic recessed into the surface of the lid. The lid and the top of the main box are rimmed with an engraved metal all around. The front of the lower metal rim is engraved with the name'Alph Giroux d Cie a Paris' The inside of the box is lined with a velvet fabric. This box once belonged to Lord Hood of London. England. It has been in my wives family for about 75 years. The bottom marking is the interlocking L's used as a trademark by Sevres. The overall color is blue with ... moregold trim. There are red roses. And pink cherubs, with green foliage around the roses. The box is lush gilt bronze decorated with colorful enamel champlevé flowers and vine designs. The base has a keyhole(no key) and the box stands on four feet each of which is the head and hoof of a ram. The box is hinged and opens to reveal the original lining of tufted silk. The box measures 10 1/2" wide by 4 1/2" tall and 3 3/4" deep. It is in very good to excellent condition; the legs are straight and solid. Up for bid is an original vintage used Rare Antique Ceramic Hand Painted Trinket Box Made in France. Found at an estate sale. This box measures about 4 1/4" long by 2 7/8" wide and about 2" tall. It has a gold painted rose design accenting each side of the box and a picture on top of a man and three women in a garden with sheep(late 1700s/early 1800s) On the inside. The lid and bottom has a small gold painted twig of leaves. It has a gilt fastener and surround is in good used condition. There is s ome discoloration of the gilt. I could find no cracks. A tiny loss of paint on a little part at the bottom. Which I believe was done in the making. It really is in outstanding condition. Antique Rare French Sevres Heart Trinket Box Cobalt Blue Gilt Portrait 1700s
Lovely old French Sevres Heart Shape Dresser Trinket Box. This box is in cobalt blue with heavy gold accents. The box measures approximately 3.75 X 3.75 inches and is 1.5 inches tall. Decorated with a garden portrait scene on the lid. The latch and hinges are present and work well. There is some damage to the lid which has been roughly repaired. I have kept this piece for some time with the intention of having a proper restoration done. But just never got around to it. A crack extends across the top of the lid but is most noticeable at the upper left of the piece. I am not an expert in porcelain but from the information I have found the box dates to approximately 1756. Even with the flaws it displays fairly well and is a rare and attractive piece. This is a Antique German Hand Painted Porcelain Cigarette/Trinket Box and matching Ashtray. It is marked with a Crown. The letter M and Germany on the bottom of both pieces. On the inside of the box lid is a piece of tape with a note that reads" Wedding Gift[1952] to Charles and Wendy Peele. Set is still in beautiful condition. It is a dark green color accented with gold trim and the pictures have a young couple sitting outside while the young Man seems to be serenading the young Lady. Size of the Box is approx. 5" x 4"x 1 1/2" and the Ashtray is 3 1/4" x3 1/4" x1/2" Being from Germany myself I am really tempted to keep this set, it is so lovely.
