All have the letter K on the handle, and one has the#1, 3 have the#2 on handle. The stainless/metal handles simply read: G. Tiemann& Co. Tools measure 5" long. There are 6 empty slots in the case. Case is black leather bound and also lined with a light tan leather and measures 6.5" x 4" Case closes with a metal slide switch. I do my best to photograph and describe my items accurately. Vintage Tonsil Compression Forcep - Turn of the Century Surgical Clamp /Stand!!
Vintage Tonsil Compression Forceps This would make a natural addition if you own a tonsillotome. Comes on a Museum Plexiglass Stand! This instrument comes from Belgium. It was used to stop blood and other materials from spilling into the throat after an engorged tonsil was removed. The tool would have had gause wraped on the ends and once the tonsil had been removed it was inserted in the bleeding cavity and clamped down till the bleeding had stopped. This looks like an early model. I can't read the maker mark but there appears to be one. You will appreciate the craftsmanship that went into this piece. See the design and patent writup at this link I found this knife in a box I purchased at auction many years ago. The knife has some shelf wear but will clean up very nicely. WWII German Vintage Leather Medical Field Kit D.R.G.M. Surgical Instruments
For your consideration is an early leather fold medical field pouch(6.5" by 3" with three instruments inside. The inside of the pouch reads D.R.G.M. at bottom of one flap and has the Dr.s name who it belonged to at the top which I cannot entirely make out. Included is one tweezers. Thermometer in case(thermometer is cracked) and depressor/suturing tool(not exactly sure) The leather on the case is in delicate shape and crackling. Condition of items consistent with use and age. I believe this was a floor model originally and would have sat on a tall cast iron stand. These lights are extremely collectable. The light socket bulb on the inside shines on 6 inner mirrors which reflect through the glass ports on the head on to 6 outer mirrors which are all set to pinpoint one area of lighting. As with many surgical lights, the head is perfectly balanced with a counterweight lever on the opposing end. This example is the original ... moremade by Operay Labs. It is in vintage condition: missing the 6 flat mirrors which attach to the arm assembly and 2 of the glass jewels or port glass circles on the head assembly. It is also missing the explosion proof globe from the top. The mirrors are all present mounted on the inside. I am selling the light"as is" and present no guarantees as to the operational aspects. The frame is made of metal and does have the surgeons name on them. And the box also. The four glass optical lenses all look in very good condition. For your consideration is this rare antique surgical kit with tools and knife blades as shown. The tools do have tarnish. Rust and spots of plating loss and are coming to you as found. I have no good knowledge of the use or what is there or missing. The velvet lined case displays the set nicely especially the blades, really intimidating! There are 10 loose instruments, all metal with one having an ebony wood handle. The item in the next to last photo has a split down the back side of the tube. Overall the case measures 16" x 18" x 4" and is solid and in pretty good shade. The latches on the case work well but do not have keys. You are bidding on a beautiful example of older medical packaging. A 1/4 oz. can of BFI(B.F.I. powder manufactured by the Quinton Company before the company was bought by Merck in 1962, meaning the can is at least 51 years old! I have priced this can higher than some similar previous auctions because of the excellent condition; please note, however, that the blue cap has a split, so if you want a"perfect" example for your collection or display, you might want to also buy a cheap rusted version of this can and swap out the cap!
