Antique Student Microscope with Box & Slide Cover Glasses
This nice old microscope was most likely made for school use. There are no manufacturer's markings but the base and table are both stamped with a 13. I assume those were the school serial numbers for keeping track of the unit.The optics are clean and work well and the brass is polished but has a nice patina. The black paint is in good condition as is the gold painted base. Included is a nearly full box of 3/4 inch glass cover glasses that date back to 1952. The story of this microscope is as follows: In 1952. When I was eleven I wandered into a shop called The Beverly Trading Post on Cabot Street in Beverly Massachusetts. It was one of those old time junk shops that bought and sold used things of value and run by a curmudgeon who apparently rejoiced in scarring kids. But I was not to be deterred, for I wanted that microscope that was ... morein the window. Now as it turned out, I had some small fish in a large mayonnaise jar; or rather I had fish. They had all died several weeks before, so what I now had was very black smelly water. I put a drop of that water on a slide and dropped on a cover glass and took a look. My fish were gone but I had something better. I had millions of single celled swimming things. I had entered the world of real science, and I have never looked back. Now it's time for some other curious kid to be nudged onto that world. Why not do it with a microscope that is made of metal and glass and will last for many lifetimes.

No parts of these glasses are magnetic. The original material decorating the body has deteriorated, showing the brass underneath. Up for auction is this old A rmy S pectacle Depot eye test kit and test spectacles. It is contained in its original wooden case lined in velvet. It has lots of lenses to establish what kind of spectacles you ne eded. It also has the test spectacles to hold the trial lenses while testing. They are marked Cle ment Clarke. This is from the decade of World War 1 England. Circa 1910-1920, and the title of course refers to the English Army. The outside of the case is marked with the name and number 610 and an arrow symbol. The case is still tight and closes nicely. T here is no key for the lock. The top lining is nicely done. But I don't know if it is original. The case measures 21 1/4" by 12 1/2" by 2 1/2" and weighs 11 pounds. It looks to be complete with the exception of one lens. I think the pence nez is sized for a woman, way too small for my manly beezer. The optics are probably useful for somebodies vision. Or they can be replaced. I wish I could weigh the 10K gold by itself. The total item weight is 23.1 grams. I estimate about 6 grams of 10K gold.

I have these five lovely sterling silver and glass cordials made in mexico. they have a wonderful mexican rose pattern on them. they measure four inches tall and are marked on the bottom sterling silver. they are in good usable condition and only need to be polished up a little. This beautiful Edwardian lorgnette are clearly marked 14K on the nose piece and features a floral vine on both sides of the handle. It weighs 21.6 grams(13.9 dwt) The glass lenses do have some age appropriate tiny scratches(nothing large) The lens measure 1½” in diameter and the piece is 3 3/8” long closed and 4” wide open(lens to lens) It could use a good cleaning but we will leave that to the new owner. Glasses: 8 amazing hand cut cordial glasses These are some of the most amazing glasses I've ever seen. My Grandma was an avid collector and has had these for probably 50 years. She's 93 and can no longer throw the lovely parties that these glasses are made for. So sadly we are selling them. If you love glass I may have more in the near future so please check back often. This set includes 8 glasses. I believe them to be made after 1903 by Hawkes when Thomas Hawkes took over. He favored the swirling floral designs as opposed to the geometric designs of the time. These glasses are something you have to hold in your hand to get a real sense of how spectacular they are. They have weight to them yet the rim of the glass is beautifully thin.
