The nose pieces or clips appear to have had some type of pad at one time that has deteriorated or been removed. The hinge/ spring still is functional. The lenses are of an oval shape– 1 ½” x 1 ¼. The left lens has a chip out of the lower edge toward the outside and a spot of glue or something about 1/8” above the bottom edge at the middle of the lens. The glasses are an overall width of approximately 4. The metal case appears well-used. It is lined with velvet which is still mostly intact. The exterior appears rusted in places and was perhaps once painted black– there is evidence of black under the edge of the front where the cover overlaps. The spring mechanism still works fine. Overall. The case measures approximately 4 ½” x 1 5/8. If you purchase more than one item from my auctions. I will gladly send a revised invoice to combine shipping if it will save you money. The glasses were held on by a string or ribbon attached to the loop ends of the stems and tied behind the head. The glasses are 4 inches wide measured from one hinge pin to the other, and the stems are about 5 inches long. The glasses are in excellent all-original condition. Up for consideration is a vintage or antique pair of chatelaine eyeglasses I am selling for an Estate Beautiful Art Nouveau Design. Marked Sterling with a little hallmark inside(could not get a good photo of the mark) The piece measures 4 1/2 inches long. There is a little button that releases the eyeglasses(see photo) The glass is intact. The glasses measure 3 3/4 inches from end to end. They weigh 32.95 grams. In great condition ~ there is a little line at the edge of the eyeglass frame where it is attached to the hinge(see photo) I am not sure if this is a crack or just the way it was made. HARDBRIDGE, FRAMELESS OVAL EYEGLASSES/ SPECTACLES IN METAL CASE These pince-nez eyeglasses are probably from the early 1900’s. The eyeglasses have what looks like a copper nose-bridge. The nose pieces or clips appear to have had some type of pad at one time that has deteriorated or been removed. The hinge/ spring still is functional. The lenses are of an oval shape– 1 ½” x 1 ¼. The left lens has a chip out of the lower edge toward the outside and a spot of glue or something about 1/8” above the bottom edge at the middle of the lens. The glasses are an overall width of approximately 4. The metal case appears well-used. It is lined with velvet which is still mostly intact. The exterior appears rusted in places and was perhaps once painted black– there is evidence ... moreof black under the edge of the front where the cover overlaps. The spring mechanism still works fine. Overall. The case measures approximately 4 ½” x 1 5/8. If you purchase more than one item from my auctions. The lovely top has beautiful Mother-of-Pearl and Abalone shell inlay in the middle and on both ends. At one end the top opens by flipping downward. Measures 6-1/8” long. 1-5/16” wide and ¾” deep. The section that opens is 1-7/8” long from the tip to its brass hinge. The inside is lined with a light brown slightly burgundy felt. The top has an etched design that is not easy to see because the inlay is so bright and eye-catching. The wood has been heavily lacquered on both sides. So I will guarantee the glasses to be at least 10 kt gold. The original owner had their initial MHM engraved on the rim. This is the first pair that I have owned with blue tinted glass. Two pairs of antique/vintage eyeglasses. These came out of an old cedar chest. No idea where they came from or how old they are. One pair is oval shaped lenses that are bifocal. There is also included in the offering an antique iron skeleton key which is old and worn with some rust on surface but it is solid with no breaks. Chips, or cracks-it is not bent or warped. These glasses do NOT have any glass in them and the stems are the extension stems, as I showed in the pictures. These measure 4 1/4" across the front and come with a black leather, over metal case. The case has velvet inside and the outside hinges are covered with the leather. With these frames being coin silver, there is no pitting or corrosion, they are in wonderful condition and there is a ridge for the glass. I see these glasses being advertised as Civil War Era.I don't know glasses well enough to know that for sure. But, I do know a bit about coin silver and that it is a colonial times metal. Antique Rimless Eyeglasses
Antique Rimless Spectacles. I’m no expert. However, these rimless glasses seem to be from either the late 19th or early 20th century. They appear to have a“W” or“saddle” bridge. Curl temples, and oval lenses. While there is a bifocal prescription in the lenses, I do not know if the lenses are original to the frames. There is a tiny inscription on the inside of the bridge. But it is not completely legible; portions of it have been rubbed off due to wear. I cannot decipher the first word, but it starts with a“T” followed by one or two illegible letters, then what I think is an“M” followed by either a“O” or a“U, and ending in“S. After that first word, the remainder of the inscription on the inside of the bridge reads: OPT. INST. CO. The hinges on the temples move quite freely. They w ill not retain their position if pulled open while not being ... moreworn(i.e. Gravity will cause them to close) In addition. The lens es will move slightly around the screws that attach the temples and the bridge to the lenses(in other words. The lenses can wiggle a bit) I do n't know if this is indicative of a problem. If it is how the glasses are supposed to be. Or if the screws just need to be tightened down. I haven't attempted to tighten the screws because I've never worn these as actual as glasses and I didn't want to st rip out the screw heads. The case in the photos is new rather than antique or collectible. But the glasses will be shipped in it for their protection. SIZE INFORMATION: The glasses are 4 1/8 inches wide across the entire front(measured from outside edges of the two lenses if you are looking at the glasses) The bridge is 13/16 of an inch wide(measured from the inside edges of the two lenses if you are looking at the glasses) The temples of the frames appear to be somewhat flexible in the curve that goes around the ear. Antique gold rimmed eyeglasses in original case! XLNT condition!
It's rare to find original vintage eyeglasses in such fine condition! No chips or wear at all on the glasses themselves. There is tiny print on the inside of the narrow ear pieces but I can't read what is printed! The case shows a bit of wear on the outside. But still in great condition. Has the name; Dr. N.N. Davis Optometrist, 107 W. 10th St. Erie, Penn. The glasses have a beautiful fine etched design on the outside of the ear pieces! Here are the measurements although I don't have very precise measuring tools; each lens measures 1 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" long. The bridge between the lenses measures 3/4" wide. We don’t profess to be experts on antique eyeglasses but we have sold a couple of pair over the years and from what we know and what we’ve found on the internet these are probably late 1800’s to early 1900’s. The lenses are in remarkably good condition with only some minor scratches. The frames look to be made out of copper and the wire arms have very small balls at the ends. The blue lenses are darker than they appear in the picture which is something I’ve noticed in other online cobalt blue lens pictures as well. These are extremely dark blue. They measure 3 ⅞” in width across the lenses not including the hinges. They measure 4 ½” outside hinge to hinge.
