Beautiful brass mortar and pestle. Bought at an estate sale and from my brief research. It appears to be of German origin from 18th or 19th century. Mortar is stamped on the bottom with an"8" and what appears to be a fir tree. The pestle is stamped with a"4" Mortar is 4.5 inches tall and 4.5 inches wide. Pestle is a little more than 6 inches long. Heavy brass- first pic shows the scale and the weight of over 3 pounds. Great apothecary patina. Paypal only. this is an exquisite very rare early 1800's bronze handmade mortar and pestle grinder. It may even be late 1700's it is made from extremely thick heavy bronze and weighs 6 pounds. Very thick walls. the mortar has an exquisite design with 6 wings hanging from the walls. Was a working mortar and pestle in it's day. Has a number"6" or"9" stamped into the pestal. Very well made and heavy- almost 5lbs of solid brass! This is a BIG ONE! Solid cast brass stands 5& 3/4 inches tall with a mouth that is 6.5 inches and a base that measures almost 5 inches in diameter. The thickness of the rim is a quarter inch of solid metal. This weighs about 10 pounds with the pestle. The mortar is adorned with Latin and what looks to be an owl motif. But I cannot be sure. It has a sticker on the inside that says Made In Holland. Green felt has been glued to the bottom. I have found no markings on either piece. I purchased this set(along with a nearly identical one I also have listed) from a man who operated a French restaurant.He used these as decorative items in the restaurant in the 1970's. Beautiful small antique solid brass mortar and pestle. Started life in a pharmacy in Europe, and somehow made its way to the U.S. Has clear signs of use, though both pieces are in good condition. The patina is just to die for, mellow, deep and golden; it actually looks more like unpolished gold than brass. One of the unusual things about this set is the handles. The fingerholds are straight across the top of the handles, and angled on the bottom. I've never seen another like this, and certainly not an American piece. Just gorgeous.and could still be used if you choose to! Unsure of maker. From the last quarter of the 1800s-1900 or so. Mortar: 3" tall x 3 3/4" in diameter at the handles. This is an antique brass mortar and pestle stamped Westerhas Metall Fabrik 4 on the bottom from the mid 19th century. The mortar measures 3.5" tall and 3.75" across the top. The pestle measures 6.5" long. This is in good shape for it's age as there are no cracks or dents in the mortar. Here for your consideration Vintage/ Antique Brass Mortar and Pestle This item was purchased at an estate sale in Brooklyn New York. The house it was purchased in was made in the Mid 1800’s. The previous owner indicated that she found this piece in the attic of the building and that it was likely left by her parents. Who were alive in the 1800’s. I cannot verify the date of this piece, but it is old and heavy, with a worn, used look. Weigh’s a little over 4 pounds and stands 5 inches tall, 5 inches wide at the top, with an 8 ½ inch pestle. I have seen many brass mortar pestle combo’s with two handles, this is the only one I have seen with one. Condition Piece is in great shape. SWEET Wonderful Old Vintage Brass Mortar and Pestle Set - No. 3
Up for auction is a SWEET Old Vintage Brass Mortar and Pestle Set. Whether i t's late 1700's or 1800's I don't know, b ut it is a vintage heavy brass pharmaceutical mortar and pestle. It has t hick square handles. And w eighs in at a little less than 1.25 lbs. The r im has as light dent and shows years of use and age on the inside of the mortar and the mashing ends of the pestle. Mortar measures slightly l ess than 3 1/4" tall and slightly l ess than 3 1/4" wide at the flared top and 3 1/4" wide at handles. The base is 1 5/4" wide. The Pestle measures 5 1/ 4" long.
