A gold cast stand with a metal dish that rests on top. This is where the medicine was put, as it has some residue from use still! The original box is in very nice condition with very minimal marks and wear! It is about 6" tall. This piece of medical history was said to cure all sorts of illnesses, though we know nowadays it was most likely quack medicine! A wonderful piece of history that you can own! Vapo-Cresolen e was used for dideases of the respiratory system and thr oat. And was also used to sanitize rooms. It has rows of pyramid shaped hobn ails on two of the four sides of the bo ttle. This was done to indicate that the contents in the bottle were poisonous. A coal-tar derivative which was supposed to cures or alleviate any lung ailment from asthma to Pneumonia. It was offered as cure-all and then as an antiseptic from 1881 to 1950. This lamp/burner consists of a miniature kerosene lamp set in a Victorian cast-metal frame which supports a metal heat diffuser. On top of which sits a dished pan for the"medicine" Size: overall. 6.25" tall, 3.75" wide, 3.25" deep. Condition: minute chip to edge of mil glass shade. Light wear to metal, otherwise fine. Finally, there is an additional instruction sheet from a later model. It has the instructions for both the kerosene and electric models of the device. These appear to date from the 1930’s. Nice antique Vapo-Cresolene set includes the lamp with white glass shade. Gold metal stand with the top metal dish, and the original box! Stands 6 1/2" tall. Very good condition! The shade has one tiny fleabite at the top. The knob turns and the wick moves freely. The stand and dish are good. The box is intact with some tatters and writing, the lid is separate but sits in place nicely. A very nice piece of medical history! Victorian era Vapo-Cresolene vaporizer and 'medicine' with boxes & instructions
Antique(1890's. I believe) quack vaporizer remedy for"whooping cough, catarrh, asthma, spasmodic croup and certain inflammatory throat diseases" as well as a few listed animal ailments. Based on the amount of'medicine' remaining(made from coal tar of all things) it was used a time or two, and the underside of the vaporizer cup still has the soot to prove it. Medicine bottle holds 4.5 oz, per the packaging. Pulled from an old family trunk. Sold as a curiosity. NOT as medical equipment or treatment. Payment must be received within 5 days of auction close. Antique 1888 Vapo-Cresolene Vaporizer with Petrolium Jar 1894 Complete Boxes
For your consideration is an excellent find from an old Johnstown.Pa estate. Complete set of a late 1800's Vaporizer with the Petroleum refill bottle. This Germ destroying liquid was vaporized and used for Whooping Cough, Spasmodic Croup, Hay Fever, Sore Throat, Broncho Pneumonia, Bronchial Complication of Scarlet Fever and Measles and as an aid in the treatment of Diphtheria. Was also used in Animals: Horses and dogs and Fowls. Interesting. You can see this was hardly used. The metal plate has no rusting, the wick easily moves up and down, the glass is clear on the mini lantern. The Refill bottle was emptied. Strong smell, I am letting it air out now. I would not be able to ship in the mail system with the product in there. The boxes do show some wear, but still very displayable. Up for auction is an original victorian era Vapo-Cresolene quack medicine oil lamp dating from 1898. This was kind of an early inhaler device that states it would help with diptheria. Croop, whooping cough and asthma. Has a metal base with a handle and a miniature oil lamp sits on. Overall condition is excellent shape and has no chips, no cracks, no repairs and no broken pieces. Everything works as it should. The box has wear as seen in the photos. The item measures approx. 6 1/4" tall and the miniature oil lamp can be removed. Has the patent dates on the side of the upper holder and the last one dates from 1898. Lamp base and shade are made of glass. Rare early medical item and is a must for any collector. All of the components of the lamp are in very good condition with minor chips and a crack to chimney. The box exhibits some light wear with a few tears to the decorative paper. Here's an early forerunner of the Vicks Vaporizer which most of us were privileged to endure as kids when we were sick.this is a Vapo Cresolene embossed miniature kerosene oil lamp. Complete with its original V.P.CO solid brass burner and milkglass chimney, ornate iron stand dated 1888 and little tin tray on top which held the liquid medicine. The VAPO CRESOLENE medicine would be heated until it gave off the purported healing vapors into the sick room. Many healing claims were made about this vaporizer which was very popular.however, the Vapo Cresolene liquid itself was deadly poison if swallowed. The medicine was poured into this tray and heated up by burning the little lamp. The chimney funneled the heat from the lamp directly up onto the tray which would vaporize the Vapo Cresolene medicine. It smelled and acted similar to the Vicks Vaporizer. Vintage Medicine 1899 Vapo-Cresolene Mini Oil Lamp Cure Diphtheria Scarlet Fever
Up for bids we offer an original Vapo-Cresolene quack medicine vaporizer device. Still in the original box. It's from the Victorian era and resembles a miniature oil lamp that's set inside an ornate, cast iron stand. It comes with the original instructions and an extra iron stand that is nearly identical but a little older. The Vapo-Cresolene was used as sort of an early inhaler that utilized the small kerosene lamp to heat up carbolic acid, a germicide, turning it into an anticeptic. The literature and box claimed this device could be used to treat diptheria, spasmodic croup, whooping cough, asthma, scarlet fever, bronchitis, measles, broncho pneumonia and more. In addition, it was claimed that this vaporizer could be used for the respiratory diseases of animals including horses, dogs and fowl. The glass font of the lamp is embossed ... morewith the words: Vapo Cresolene Kerosene" The burner with original wick is in excellent shape. The glass chimney has some flaws(chip-hairline) from past use but the overall condition of this device is very good. All the parts are there. The extra stand/base is in nice shape and has a patent date of Aug. 8'88 while the complete set is marked Aug. 8'99. The box is in very good shape for its age. Although it's missing most of its cover, the graphics are very good and it only has minor wear. The Vapo-Cresolene Vaporizer was marketed and sold between the 1880s and early 1900s. Asthma, bronchitis etc. The base measures approx. 3" in diameter, it stands approx. 6" high. Clear glass oil well with raised printing"Vapo Cresolene" and"Use Keorsene" and incised printing on top rim"Patented Aug 1 85 Aug 8 89" thick milk glass chimney, embossed metal stand& partial box with advertising. Condition: I'm not sure if this is the original chimney as it doesn't fit tightly in the bracket(see pict. 3) however, this is how I found it at an Estate sale and I am selling it as is. There is a chip/flaw on the metal ring at the top of the stand(underneath the top bowl) it could have been done during manufacturing, as it does not interfere with the integrity of the stand, ... morethere is no weakness in the stand and the top bowl remains firmly in place; there are a few fleabite size nicks on the rim of the chimney, no cracks or breaks; oil well has no chips, cracks or breaks; metal shows some age/use wear to the surface finish; and the box shows wear in a missing top, tears on seams& discoloration. And someone at the factory must have had a keen sense of timing because it was patented on August 8, 1888(8/8/88) The vaporizer stands just six inches tall. Vintage/Antique Vapo-Cresolene Bottle Great Complete Piece
Vapo-Cresolene vapor inhalant. Would make a nice addition to your collection or companion with your Vapo-Cresolene lamp. Please look at pictures carefully as they are considered a part of the description. The labels do have a few missing edges and a light stain on one but the main writing is all clearly on the bottle. 7" tall to top of cap and 2 1/2" square- printed 16 fluid Oz on label. Cap easily is removable. There is some'substance' inside of bottle which could possible be the original'medication' I did not wash it out. I leave that to buyer to decide. There are markings on bottom which are difficult to make out due to the bottom'variegated' surface. There are no chips cracks or damage to bottle. Can use a little cleaning but afraid to get the very old labels wet. I can't'date' this bottle ... moreby any printing on it. But with the screw on cap. I can guess it is 1889ish. The second Vapo-Cresolene lamp came out about that time that has glass chimney instead of milk glass. I package my items very well. I do not charge a'handling' or'packing' charge. The shipping charge is just that. Its what eBay estimates with USPS that the charge will be. I have found most times it is an'undercharge' I have not had any broken items by USPS handling. This Cresolene Vaporizer is approx. 6 1/4" high& it is incised stamped"PATENTED AUG. 4. 85 AUG. 8, 88" on the metal rim part that holds the tiny little cresolene pan. Antique Medical Device Box Vapo- Cresolene Vaporizer Empty Box Cardboard Found on a shelf in our late mother's closet. Box that once held a Vapo-Cresolene Vaporizer. Probably at the beginning of the 20th Century. No U.S. patent date on it, but patent dates for Germany 1899,France 1884, England 1897, and Canada 1893. The box claims it was used to treat catarrh, spasmodic croup, asthma, whooping cough, other respiratory ailments, and even respiratory ailments of horses, dogs, and fowls. Measures 6 inches high by 3.5 inches to a side. Cover was taped on the inside due to being torn in the corners. Other than the cover, box is in reasonable condition, for a box of its age. Everything on it is readable. See photos. Sold as is. No international shipping.

Ornate carrying frame, cast iron, some use fade of brass coating on the ornate iron base, shell design and scrolls typical of the Victorian era. Further plus. The thumb screw is marked"V.C.
