This vintage set of either medical surgical instruments or a botanists field kit measures 190mm(7.5' long x 110mm(4.5' x 40mm(1.75" deep. The case is good quality mahogany with a simple catch and the holders inside are brass with a swivel brass retaining bar. The top 4 instruments all look original to the case and fit well the bottom two I think are additions and there is space for perhaps a pair of scissors to the centre. They date to the early to mid 1800's and are in good condition with some surface discolouration(please see photos)An interesting part set of high quality Victorian field gear. This is a Civil War era. Roll-up, physician's pocket surgical kit. It was originally deep red leather inside and out, now well worn, with 15 instrument holders and a lined pocket for papers. The clasp is probably nickel. The interior leather and holders had gold trim that is well worn. It measures 6" x 3" folded. Some of the instruments are stamped Wiegand& Snowden as shown. These were John Wiegand and Thomas Snowden, surgical instrument makers and partners in Philadelphia, PA, from 1824-1855. There are 13 instruments as listed below. Also included is a brass folding Fleam and there are two long metal rods. All of the mid-19 th century Medical Instruments in this auction are in original as found condition. The condition reminds me of something that was used in the field. One scalpel has a piece of string wrapped around the handle and another has a chip at the end. There are no probelms or repairs to any of the razor sharp blades. Although there is some light surface wear& marks. I am offering a Antique Doctor's Bag filled with 20 Medical Surgical Instruments. The bag is a faux paper alligator. With metal frame and handle it has 3 latches to close, and all work. The inside has a cardboard divider. The bag has some damage to two the corners and an old repair. The bag measures 15 x 9 x 9 inches. Inside the bag are the 20 metal medical/surgical tools pictured. They were purchased in London 30 years ago at a medical antique show, and are complete and in superb condition They are complete and the case is equally fine. One instrument has a small crack in the handle. There was a set similar sold in Europe last year, but it only had one handle and the ends screwed into the handle. It sold for 1700$. These are periodontal surgical instruments, not scalers for calculus. Very rare and complete.

Antique Civil War Era Surgical Instruments in Mahogany Wooden Case
This is a unique antique surgical kit in a mahogany box. There are nine instruments. The handles are off white and one black wood handle. There is a double hook and chain. spring loaded clamping tool with slight crack in handle. Tweezers, two cutting instruments, one with hook on end, on straight pick, one with a concave sharp edge and one a curved cutting blade. They are approximately 6" long, allowing a little in length from each instruments. They come in a nice antique mahogany wooden box with brass curved metal hooks that close the box. The box has brass hinges on the backside to open the box. The wooden box has a plain brass plate on the top side where it could be monogrammed or a name added. The box is 7" by 2 3/4" and 1" high. The inside of the box is lined with red velvet and could use some cleaning. In the top ... moreleft corner is paper label that reads: From William Autenriet'h 71 West Sixth Street, and I believe it reads Cincinnati Ohio. The mahogany box is in very good condition. I did not clean the tools as not to damage them. I will leave this to the buyer. The tools are in good antique condition. Some of the instruments have some markings, but too small to make out. Up for sale is this Aesculap WW2 era portable Surgical Kit.In outstanding condition. The scalpels and lancets(blood letting tools)still have the protective resign on them(the box is what i believe is German Silver(which is more like a chrome plated nickel and bears the"Aesculap" name and symbol on the front. Up for Auction is Antique Civil War Surgical Case Instruments& Equipment set. This surgical amputation kit manufactured by the Kern firm was owned by Ass"t. Surgeon Charles E.Wachenchuens of the 36th O.V.I. An outstanding antique medical kit made by a firm with a history dating as early as the 1830s and continuing in the war years. The wooden case that the tools are in measures 16" L x 5"W x 3"H The box has a keyhole but there is no key. These are in excellent condition for its age. I am not exactly sure of the date however, but I would have thought early 1900s. The instruments are marked‘Weiss London’ and some have‘OPS’ or‘RLOH OPS’ on them. There are two‘Weiss’ steel items. Six‘Weiss’ with handles of a natural material(possibly cattle bone– definitely not man made) and one metal item marked‘Pemm USA’ which is probably a later addition. They all have some rust one them and come in a cloth tie up case.

Antique Surgical Kit, Hernstein Surgical Instruments, Medical Kit
Antique Medical Kit. Surgical Kit A.L. Hernstein Pocket Surgical Kit From an estate auction of a well-to-do family. I'm not sure if the late owner was a doctor. Or simply collected medical items. The estate included many items from the mid to late 1800s and early 1900s. The inner flap is embossed"A.L. Hernstein New York Manufacturer of Surgical Instruments" Measures just over 4" long and 2" tall. And the clasp on the front pulls outward and snaps shut. The first compartment holds two"spools" of suture thread. And 4 suture needles. On the other side. 4 loops hold instruments against a velvet type backing, with two flaps that fold over. There is one instrument missing. It was likely the part that screwed onto the black handle. The silk fabric is split and torn as you can see. The next section has three loops ... moreagainst the velvet backing. And holds two folding instruments. Their cases seem to be shell, and each has an instrument that swivels out. They measure about 3 1/2" long when closed, and there are some chips on the edge of the cases as you can see in the close-up photo. When that section is lifted. Another has 5 loops that hold instruments. There are sections of a curved hollow catheter that screw together, and two wicked looking needles. Behind that section is a pocket that is empty. PLEASE NOTE THE CONDITION- The leather is old and shows its age with scuffs. Cracks and some splits. The outer flap is separated, and the part that would have been held in place by the clasp is torn as you can see. I did not attempt to clean the instruments other than wipe with a cloth, so the metal can be cleaned better if you wish. The leather has a slight musty smell. The items in the kit make it difficult to close tightly, which is probably why the flap is torn. Please keep sharp instruments away from children* I have shown the items to the best of my ability. Antique 1800's Medical Doctor MD Surgical Urethral Tools Fowler Case Instruments
This neat display of antique surgical instruments are as shown in the pictures and is printed on the front of the leather type case as a SET FOWLER SOUNDS. The leather type display case contains surgical urethral instruments that are antique 1800's medical doctors tools. The case has two working slide locks that have a nickel silver look. Each instrument is marked with a number and they have a wonderful original nickel silver type look finish. I will leave to the new owner if they desire to clean but I have not cleaned. Tried to polish or wipe down leaving original patina. The case shows wear as shown in the pictures as you would expected for a item of this age. Also, I just notice that the back left corner of the case has what looks to me as being a old brush mark of white paint but very small. The case does have good hinges, sliding ... moreworking locks on front and the purple liner which is all in good condition. The case is approximately 12 inches long, 4 inches wide and 1 1/8 inches deep.Please look at pictures to see the real description. What a super item to display. Up for auction the amazing 1890 Twelfth edition of the Sharp& Smith surgical Instrument catalogue. Along with a McIntosh Milliampere Meter and ever ready ammeter. The book is in good shape for a 123 year old book. Please look at the picture for more details and questions prior of bidding. The lot came from Wisconsin from the estate of a doctor. The book shows discolorations on the cover. And some foxing on the pages. Great graphics with hundreds of pictures of antique medical equipment. On page 821 there is a description of the McIntosh Milliampere meter, the meeter shows staining in the glass from the inside, I think it would be easy to clean if someone is good at taking things apart.
