Next day shipping can not be guaranteed. Dimensions: The Balance Box measures 13 3/8 inches high. 8 1/4 inch deep and 15 9/16 inches wide. This analytic balance sits on a fixed base that measures 16 1/2 inches wide and 9 3/16 inches deep. The base is supported by three legs. The rear leg is wood. And it is not adjustable. The front two legs have threaded, adjustable brass supports that allow leveling of the balance. This analytical balance was used in a State Forestry Laboratory in the early 1950's. And it was apparently DE-commisioned and replaced by a modern electronic balance sometime in the mid-1960's. This unit is currently an attractive mantle center piece in my home. I am selling it because I am moving. There are some cosmetic defects such as a chip in the right front corner of the base and evidence of an amateur glue repair of a broken right front leg. I don't believe that these detract from the overall beauty of the balance. The right leg had apparently been broken and repaired with glue. There is a chip in the front right corner of the base that was repaired to make the scale functional. I have no way of knowing if the balance works. The pans pivot on agate bearings. There are no weights that normally came with it. This item will be shipped with insurance and must be signed for. It's strictly a conversation piece. Will not ship to Alaska. For your consideration is this beautiful W.M. WELCH SCIENTIFIC Balance Scale. Its in amazing condition. The precision construction behind these scales are amazing, everything is perfectly aligned and well put together, you never see engineering like this anymore. It is marked"W.M. WELCH SCIENTIFIC CO CHICAGO, U.S.A. This scale is constructed of wood, glass, and metal that appears to be brass. It features glass panes surrounding the balance scale. The front pane opens to reveal the scale and allow the operator to place their weights as needed. This scale comes with 4 weights and a container to hold them although it appears to be missing 6 smaller weights it does have the larger ones which are the harder to come by. It has the 1lb, 8oz, 4oz, and 5g. It measures approximately 18" tall x 17" wide x 9" deep. This beautiful ... morepiece is in excellent condition. The wood appears to be damage free except for a few scuffs, and scratches here and there. All of the glass panes are free of damage. I am unsure as to the exact operation as I honestly have no idea how it works or how precise it is. It tried to test it and it seemed to work fine however I really do not know much about it. It really is a wonderful piece and it is hard to let this one go but it deserves to be with someone who will be able to use it for what it is, a wonderful precision instrument. Antique GEM No 5 Cast Iron Candy General Store BALANCE SCALE W/5 Brass Weights
You are bidding on a vintage Antique CAST IRON SCALE. In used condition. Solid& sturdy in good shape. The brass pan/scoop has three small cracks on the edges, I tried to show the largest one in a picture. From a doctors estate it was on display in his office& looks like it was refinished at one time. One end has a brass scoop& the other end has a flat cast iron pan. The Scale is heavy& measures approx 12 3/8" long x 3 3/4" wide x 9" tall. The base reads: GEM No 5. There are 5 different size Brass weights that fit into holes on the base that are marked on the top: 1/4- 1/2- 1- 2- 4. The numbers stand for ounces. It comes with the four weights pictured a 4lb. 2 2lbs and 1 1lb weights and the black measuring tray. Very shabby chic, and displays beautifully! EARLY 1800'S ANTIQUE HAND FORGED IRON AND BRASS BALANCE SCALE WOOD BASE WEIGHTS
This auction is for a very wonderful early balance scale made of forged iron and brass on a wood base. It comes with weights that are hallmarked. I am putting the scale in the 1800's category. But I feel that it could be earlier. The larger brass pan lifts out of the hanger which is wonderfully forged(see photos) and has ram's horn ends. The smaller brass pan is attached to the iron piece. Three of the weights are brass and the other three are iron. I have not researched the hallmarks on the weights, but that might give a clue to the date. The scale has nice patina except that someone cleaned the iron of the smaller brass pan, apparently when they polished the brass pans. It is unfortunate, but you can see the pitting in the iron and it is clear that it is indeed old iron. Both arms with pans on each side can be removed from the main ... morearms. The scale may be European in origin and may have been imported early on for use in this country, I don't really know. Also, I can't remember if I purchased the iron weights separately, but I know for sure that the brass one came with it. In any case you get all the weights. Scale measures overall 15 1/4" tall x 13 3/4" wide x 7" deep. Small pan is 4 1/8" in diameter. Large pan is 7 7/8" diameter x 6 1/4" it's oval) Brass weights are 1, 2, 4 oz. Antique Excelsior Improved Brass & Metal Spring Balance Scale 48 Lbs
This auction is for an antique brass and metal Excelsior Improved Spring Balance Scale with markings up to 48 lbs. The front plate is brass and measures 8 1/4" long x 2" wide. With the hanging ring included at the top and the hook at the bottom it measures about 13 3/4" long. It has use marks such as scratches. Dings, wear and other marks and at the bottom of the scale it tends to bend downward and their is a small dent on the side there as well. Both the ring and the hook are rusted. The back of the scale has alot of wear to the black finish. Scrapes of missing paint, pitting, scratches, rust, dings, etc. Also the inside piece at the top(what is it called? a bolt? is very rusted and I don't think it will turn. not that it has too) but the rust on it has kept it from moving. This balance was manufactured for use in the California gold fields in the mid-1800s. The tole. Oval metal case, measuring 6”L x 3” W x 1.25” H, features an American Eagle/Shield on the lid with“Miners Improved Gold Scale” and“Manufactured Expressly for California” printed above and below the eagle. The case bottom has a paper label stamped“Germany” The brass scale consists of a 5-3/4” beam with 2-1/4” pans suspended by chain. Eight brass weights are in the case; two ½ troy oz. weights, one each 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 DWTS(pennyweight) and one 2 grain wafer. Needs new steel tension bands and may be missing a bolt. Not sure if the small pieces, shown, go to this. I have a band, as shown, that is the same width, that went to a weedwhacker. May be able to use. I have never had or seen one of these so I put this together the way you see it and do not know if it is totally correct. This looks to be perhaps 90% or more complete! Pictured is a Christian Becker Chainomatic Analytical Balance Scale that is in beautiful WORKING and LOOKING condition especially for it's age. Nothing is missing and ALL original- 1920's(easily museum quality) This would make a great gift for someone who appreciates antique scientific instruments that are so hard to find especially in such fine condition. These balances were the premier instruments used in labs for weighing in the gram to milligram range. Medicine Balance Scale This is an accurate balance scale made in Japan more than 100 years ago. It was actually used at a clinic in Japan. On the bottom surface of the case it says it was bought in the 40th year of the Meiji Period(1907) The scale is inside the glass case in wooden frame. Which makes it less likely to be affected by airflow when substanceis weighed on it. This kind of scale is hard to find at the present day. The scale which comes with perfect set of standard weights still works correctly. It is about 12 inch wide. 6 1/2 inch depth, 12 inch height, and weighs 2.6kg. I am offering a stunning antique analytical balance. Pre-1930's, made in Germany and distributed by Cambridge Botanical Supply Co. Waverly, Mass. complete with weights and 2 extra pans. This scale measures approximately 17 inches wide, 17 inches high and 9 1/2 inches deep. The scale has one drawer. Other than in the back, the case is in excellent shape and has a beautiful patina. The back of the scale at the very bottom has some damage(see photographs) I could have easily repaired this damage, however, I wanted the buyer to see the exact condition of the case. Up for bid is the VERY EARLY antique STEELYARD SCALE with(4) HOOKS(but NO WEIGHT) As seen in the pictures/ as described in the title. Blacksmith forged, likely in Britain c.1780. While this piece is extremely patinaed, rusted and pitted(a few hundred years of moisture will do that! it remains strong, fully functional and is clean to the touch. The arm has a slight bend/bow to it(see 9th pic) I see no other noteable defects, breaks or repairs. I see no maker's mark(s) Cosmetic condition is as clearly and accurately shown in the pictures. It appears that the label might be missing from the inside top of the case. The wood appears slightly shaded inside the top and other scales usually have a label in that location. I've seen similar scales made by Ward and Bell, all extremely collectible. From my research, I find that this scale was made sometime from 1800-1820. Large Antique Analytical Scientific Brass Pharmaceutical Scale Balance
I am offering a large rare antique brass analytical scientific pharmaceutical scale which is approximately 49 inches tall and 36 inches wide at its widest point. The main arm is approximately 29 inches wide and the pans are approximately 12 inches in diameter. The smaller arm measures approximately 14 inches and its pans approximately 6 1/4 inches in diameter. The base measures approximately 12 1/2 inches by 6 inches. The weight of the scale is approximately 40 lbs. Please note that the smaller arm is not completely parallel to the larger arm. It is my understand that the upper portion of the pole needs to be rotated slightly(see picture 6) I did not know how to do that and so I am leaving that to the purchaser. This is a beautiful. All original, not restored, authentic German/Austrian balance scale. According to the estate owner I purchased this from. This antique balance scale was first owned by a German shopkeeper at the end of the 19th century, somewhere between 1850-1890. Used for measuring lighter objects. Like salt, rare spices, postal parcels, hard currency, gems and medication, this is a rare 1K model complete with metal forged sea horses that meet each other when the scales are equally weighted. Other than"1K" it is unmarked and a very early style. As shown. This cast iron scale does not come with plates that may have once been included. Although plates were not typically includes with this type of scale until much later after its invention, it would be fairly easy to find appropriately sized metal or glass plates to fit onto ... morethe top of each end if you desire. This is antique scale of the type often seen during the late 1880 to about 1920 in apothecary. Pharmacy and small stores. This is marked with a trademark showing a balance bean scale arm and the words"PRAE" then a star and"CISION" which we have tried to find out more about but could not. The scale also is marked 10Kg the beam arm. We couldn't find any other marks. It includes a set of W. T. Avery weights as marked; 1 lb AVERY Ltd- inner stamp on lead looks like crown. G, and 9 can't make out the R, A21, 24, 25,27,not sure if this is 23 or 28)31,33,34 8 oz AVERY Ltd- inner stamp on lead crown. GR,9- several marks on bottom J21, 24,25,26,27,31,33,34 4 oz W& T. AVERY Ld- inner stamp on lead looks like 27.7. Crown, GR, not sure of what is below that, no stamps on bottom. 2 oz W& T. We could find no marking other than already stated as to the maker. Apears to be European. This was found in NH. We have left as found as some collectors prefer the original patina. I have taken alot of picture to show all the parts, it looks to be complete, but can not tell as I can't find any information as to the maker. VINTAGE ANTIQUE FAIRBANKS MORSE 25 LBS. BALANCE SCALE WITH WEIGHTS.Vintage scale seems to be in very good condition. Cannot be for sure if this scale is complete. But seems to be in good working order. Comes with 4 original weights, 1-10# and 3-5# Does need a light cleaning, a little dusty.
