Up for bid is a clear glass syringe that measures 9 1/4" with a 2 5/8" opening. It is hand blown with a rough ground finish on the needle side. Embossed around the shoulder of the needle side- Erie Medical Co. Buffalo. N.Y. It has some light staining and looks big enough for a horse or a small dinosaur! You are biddin on a cccp syringe that Russia occupied Bulgaria in the late 40s early 50s. My pap used bulgarian money to purchase them, I have a bill he saved to purchase them. I guess my pap never used the syringe when he escaped Bulgaria because he had diabetes. I know its not used because it has 2 needle tips(stainless steel) 2 grommets( not dry rotted and included directions. It came from a box of 10 which this is the last one. The box is in very good condition. The bulgarian money has 2 dates 1944 and 1951, He fled Bulgaria in 1952 so im not sure what year its from. 1860s EARLY GLASS GONORRHEA VD SYRINGE FOR FEMALES DUG IN CIVIL WAR ERA PRIVY
Here's an early hand blown 2 piece glass gonorrhea- venereal disease syringe which we dug from an outhouse privy pit in use during the 1860-1870s. This rounded end female syringe was used to inject liquid cures for venereal disease into women. It measures 6 1/2"long and has 4 tiny holes in the rounded end where the liquid cure could be pushed out of the syringe tube. The glass plunger has 4 separately applied crude rings which held the cotton wadding. Excellent condition with no chips or damage. A tiny bit of light haze from being buried in the ground for nearly 150 years. But pretty clean. This syringe is missing the wadding and seal on top of tube. Prostitution was rampant during the 1800s. And with no protection from venereal disease, it was spread easily. Many soldiers during the Civil War would visit a"house of ill repute" ... moreand contract gonorrhea or syphilis. After they came back home and got married, they would spread the VD to their wife. A common"cure" was mercury which would have to be injected directly into the male or female sex organs with the use of one of these VD syringes. It was a very painful and unfortunately, useless process which gave rise to a saying"An evening with Venus: A month with Mercury" THIS IS A FIXED PRICE. BUY IT NOW ITEM FOR SALE IN MY STORE. Blown Glass Syringe with Colored Glass Plunger. Circa 1850's,Possible Veterinary
4 5/8" is the clear glass syringe. The black glass plunger is 4 1/4" The 2 round"fins" are hand applied on this 1840-50's piece(you cant see through the dark glass) The smaller"Tip" end has a small piece chipped off. The plunger end perfect. Checking out the bulbous end(opening)of the clear glass syringe. it is a little offset but smooth and absolutely no sign of it being altered or ground& repolished, just crudely made. This oldtimer was dug in a very early Brooklyn, NY privy. Due to that bulbous end it may have been a veterinary syringe. But that's only a guess on my part.
