There are no chips, cracks or fungus that I can find to the glass elements o the lenses, however, one side of the water chamber has cracks, but the glass is still solidly fixed in places. There is one objective on the turret, this is marked "W. Watson & Sons". The makers details still have a fair colour.. Please be aware that customs or import duties may apply.

The draw tube mechanism moves up and down, however, it is a little loose, the fine focus wheel appears to be working. There are no cracks or chips to the single sided mirror, although there is a little loss of silvering. Its' holder may be a replacement. There is one eyepiece, one objective in its' can and a sliding stage plate. The microscope and has its' mahogany case, this is has its' drawer and original magnifying chart.

The brass rod holding the lens slides along as it should and the ball joint holds the lens in place as it should. The bottom of the shaft has some additional solder and a small dent to the bottom rim of the base. There are no chips or cracks to the planoconvex lens. Antique Student Microscope with Box & Slide Cover Glasses
This nice old microscope was most likely made for school use. There are no manufacturer's markings but the base and table are both stamped with a 13. I assume those were the school serial numbers for keeping track of the unit.The optics are clean and work well and the brass is polished but has a nice patina. The black paint is in good condition as is the gold painted base. Included is a nearly full box of 3/4 inch glass cover glasses that date back to 1952. The story of this microscope is as follows: In 1952. When I was eleven I wandered into a shop called The Beverly Trading Post on Cabot Street in Beverly Massachusetts. It was one of those old time junk shops that bought and sold used things of value and run by a curmudgeon who apparently rejoiced in scarring kids. But I was not to be deterred, for I wanted that microscope that was ... morein the window. Now as it turned out, I had some small fish in a large mayonnaise jar; or rather I had fish. They had all died several weeks before, so what I now had was very black smelly water. I put a drop of that water on a slide and dropped on a cover glass and took a look. My fish were gone but I had something better. I had millions of single celled swimming things. I had entered the world of real science, and I have never looked back. Now it's time for some other curious kid to be nudged onto that world. Why not do it with a microscope that is made of metal and glass and will last for many lifetimes.

The slide features a large, difficult to prepare thin section of Cidaris spine. Vnt Antique Bausch & Lomb Optical Co Brass Metal Slide Microscope Rochester N. Y
For your consideration from a smoke free estate. A truly wonderful piece of vintage optical equipment. I am going to do my best to describe this antique brass microscope. But as I am not an expert by any means in this area please forgive any incorrect terminolgy. Any questions or information is all welcomed and appreciated. This microscope is made of brass and black metal. All we have done is to dust this piece. So the brass. Although warm appears scratched. It looks really retro as it is. But I would think if you wanted to use it you would need to shine it up. I leave the cleaning of these valuable older treasures to the experts. The base is black and measures 5 1/2" longest) 3 3/4" widest) Base does have minimal surface rust(photo 7) and a screw that does turn. I think this screw may tighten the base into place. Back of base has ... morea round metal plate that I think is brass. It reads: Bausch& Lomb Optical Rochester N.Y. New York City. The Bausch is a little hard to read. The mirror rotates and swings freely. The mirror measures 1 3/4" across. The metal around one side of the the mirror has some age rust(photo 7) One side of the mirror magnifies the other is just regular mirror. The mirror side that does not magnify has some silver loss around the edge(see photo 7) this does not seem to effect the visiblity. The mirror will be removed for shipping as to decrease the risk of breakage. The area that holds the slides is black, the two slide holders are intact with good movement and I think they are brass. The opening in slide stage is 1/2" The underside of the slide plate has a circular dial I believe brass piece. This circular dial has 4 holes, I think they are used to regulate the light that reaches the mirror. This dial moves freely and the largest opening measures 1/2" across. The microscope raises up and down without problems but may need to be lubricated. At the tallest it is 14" retracted 11" The piece closest to the slide stage is marked: Bausch& Lomb 16 mm 0.25 N.A. T

And included are 84 slides, which include chicken, human, cat, dog, monkey, frog, rat(possibly others) The samples are varied from embryos, to liver tissue, pituitary glands, stomach, tongue, spinal cord, etc. The box measures approx. 7.5" X 8.5" when closed. The closure is metal clasps. The bottom of the box is delicately attached(unnattached on bottom edge and half on sides. Up for bid is an extremely rare R& J Beck London Micrometer slide. On the front of the slide it reads Micrometer 1/100 of an Inch 1/1000 of an inch R& J Beck london. It is a card slide and not glass. It looks like the slide was not used with no handwritten markings on it. I've included pictures of both sides. Some pictures have flash issues from the camera I was using. This is an extremely rare slide from the 1800's in excellent condition.

Mahogany, glazed slide cabinet is the finest I have handled in over 15 years selling antique microscopes and slides. There are 20 drawers, nineteen of which can comfortably hold 48 3" x1" slides. The bottom drawer, No20, is slightly deeper and is not divided, but could comfortably hold another 48 slides. Please note: SLIDES NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE Condition Report There are various minor issues with this cabinet. Commensurate with it's age and other contemporary examples I have handled: The drawers are all free sliding. With one being a bit stubborn. Some of the original knobs are a little chewed at the edges. With one having a little more than half of the ... moreoriginal pull remaining. All of the drawer bases are pine wood and of sound construction. But each one has a horizontal crack across the width due to shrinkage(see image for a typical example) I would suggest that lining the compartments with paper would be the best way to display slides. The key is missing. So one door springs out a little(perhaps 1cm) from the closed position. This could be remedied by the fitting of a new lock, or perhaps sourcing a key for the existing one(note that the female part of the lock(not present) would also need fitting) The thin moulding strip running down the middle of the two doors has had about 2 inches of restoration at the bottom end. There are two vertical cracks to the thin panel of wood on the back of the cabinet(ie. the side that would face the wall) Patina is very appealing. Along with typical marks and dings, none of which distract from the impressive appearance. All in all. The exercise of patiently filling this magnificent cabinet with suitably fine nineteenth-century mounts would be a very satisfying endeavour.
