Antique Medical 18thc Pewter Enema Syringe Instrument
A antique medical pewter enema syringe instrument. Dates late 1700 c 1800. Pewter barrel unscrews to remove head and plunger. Being made of beautiful walnut wood. Pewter and leather that provides good suction. The syringe end screws on with original leather washer. Barrel is decorated with fine etched design circling the barrel on both ends and center. MULFORD CO. U.S.A. Diphtheria Antitoxin I have not tampered with these in any way you will receive item as I did. Incredibly rare syringe that once contained 10.000 units of Diphtheria Antitoxin. This syringe is a one use disposable and empty of its contents and with out needle. Mulford Co. produced the most effective antitoxin for this disease in the 1890's A fantastic piece of medical history. The fact that the dose that once was contained in this syringe saved a life over 120 years ago is in itself important. Welcome to my auction for this DIPHTHERIA ANTITOXIN empty syringe. Produced by the Mulford Co. of Philadelphia. This 4" long syringe is in very good condition for its age. The label is intact and there is some rusting to the metal parts. This item once contained 10.000 units of"Diphtheria Antitoxin- Purified Globulin Super-Concentrated. The syringe is empty and without a needle. From a website. I learned that in the year 1894, a pioneering pharmaceutical firm known as the H. K. Vintage Antique Becton-Dickinson Syringe - 1940's
This is an Empire Becton Dickinson Co. Rutherford. N.J. nickel-plated brass irrigating syringe medical instrument, as can be seen by the trademark as pictured. It has a tubular barrel with screw cap topped with two circular finger rings. The nickel-plated brass plunger has thumb ring attached to a long shaft that slides through cap and into barrel and the plunger terminates in cup-shaped brass piston. The shaft has graduated markings and the tapered tip screws into the end of the barrel. The overall length with the plunger depressed fully is 8" and it is in g ood condition showing normal wear and tear for a 60-70 year old medical instrument.

Beautiful antique syringe with incredible detail. Comes with the case which you can see the condition of in the pictures. The snap and latch on the case still works. The plunger on the syringe has no real suction to it, I would assume the stopper(cork? had disintegrated over the years. Still an incredible looking piece though. LITTLE PUMP/SYRINGE LIKE IMPLEMENT MEASURES 6 1/2 inches LONG as PICTURED. Funnel end pulls out, pushes in with pump action, originally there was a rubber liner which has deteriorated and torn away from inside(just an edge left) The funnel unscrews and fits on the other end, a tiny hole in end, with out funnel, indicates to me that there must be a needle missing. Both ends unscrew. I've had people tell me this is a veternarians syringe, a perfume sprayer, a pump to inflate things or? So, I do not know what it is but yours if you buy it! From antique estate.
