Possibly part of a field nurse or doctors' medical kit( The containe r doubles as a handle. Instruments/blades are made of three separate pieces of carbon steel. Blades are attached to folded steel tang with a single carbon steel rivet. Reminiscent of hand made blacksmith style work. All three blades screw in& out as they should. The knife blade has steel los s from corrosion but there is no rust& it is s till sharp. The Gouge& the scoop type blades are in better condition than knife blade. This is a Civil War era. Roll-up, physician's pocket surgical kit. It was originally deep red leather inside and out, now well worn, with 15 instrument holders and a lined pocket for papers. The clasp is probably nickel. The interior leather and holders had gold trim that is well worn. It measures 6" x 3" folded. Some of the instruments are stamped Wiegand& Snowden as shown. Antique Georgian Silver Medical Lancet Kit 4 Fleams London 1821
This is a wonderful medical item- a silver case containing 4 lancets for bleeding. The flip top case is 2 1/2" long and is undecorated except for the reeded lines at the top. Bottom and edge of the opening. One tortoise lancet was made by Weiss, London; the other was made by Milliken, London. One mother of pearl was made by Evans, London; the 4th one, mother of pearl, is missing one side and is unmarked. I guarantee everything written about the piece. Up for bid is a rare. Antique leather bound, field surgical kit. It is a tri-fold open and measures appox. 5 1/2 X 3 inches closed, and 11 X 8 1/2 fully open, with a brass clasp. There are 7-8 instruments, all metal, in good condition for their age, and two curved suture needles that fit into an interior pouch. The sharp surgical tools have a cork protector and are stamped"Shepard& Dudley" Shepard& Dudley, of New York, were in business from 1860 to 1894, as far as I can tell. The 1885 New York Leading Industries publication lists them as making medical instruments since 1864. These may be a later era than the Civil War and there is faint gold lettering that says, Hartz, Surgical Instruments, Detroit, Mich. early 1920s ANTIQUE johnson and johnson antique first aid MEDICAL KIT
In 1888 Johnson and Johnson made the first portable first aide kit for railroad workers. this large kit was made in the 1920s. It is still in the same style as the early 1888 example shown on the Johnson and Johnson web site. Johnson and Johnson invented the first"band aid" in the 1920s. The labeling Includes The Band aide name thus the date for the kit would be in the 1920s. The kit is made of metal and has 2 hooks for hanging on the wall. It was probably used in a company/ industrial setting. It is in excellent condition for its age. I found ONLY one on the web that was sold previously on an antique site. This is is a rare and exciting find! The wall model is fully portable with a handle and interesting latches to close the lid. the lid opens to form a shelf or workspace. The out side measurements are 16 inches across x 11 inches ... morehigh and a little over 6.5 inches thick. Inside is one large drawer with gold painted labels on black metal. It reads = specify J&J products and a list of the bandages. Splints, and adhesive plasters in that drawer. The 2nd drawer= is labeled to hold cotton, and band aids as well as safety pins, applicator and gauze. the 3rd drawer would have held 6 finger cots, 4 picric acid pads, one tube first aid for wounds. one tube carbolized petrolatum. one tourniquet, more bandages and scissors and tweezers Each drawer states SPECIFY J& J PRODUCTS. The label on the inside lid reads. This door should be kept closed.Each drawer has Nice ring and medallion drawer handles. The outside of the medical kit probably would have been black with gold lettering if it was in its original condition. At least I believe so according to the Photo on the Johnson and Johnson web site. Its a bit hard to tell since I can only find one previously sold item on the entire web and some old photos It is now painted a 1930s green. I'm not sure If the paint can be removed. Their address is listed on one of the packages as 1285 West 6th Street, Cleveland 13, Ohio with a phone# listed as TOwer 1-3095. An internet listing of Ohio companies and corporations lists First Aid Pharmacal Co, Inc. as inactive, originally registered as a corporation for profit on April 21, 1934. The copyright date on the instruction pamphlet is 1948, so this kit is likely 65 years old. It appears that the company manufactured the 4 bottles and their contents and most of the other included items, but the 2 eye pads, which appear ... moreto be original to the kit, are marked Johnson& Johnson, the 1/8 ounce tube of 5% Boric Acid ointment is from Lilly, and the 1/8 ounce tube of 2% butacaine sulfate& Metafen 1:3000, NNR ointment is from Abbott Labs. Antique Wimco Veterinary Vaccination Animal Syringe Medical Kit in Original Box!
This great syringe kit is in the original box that it was mailed in. From a vet in Green Bay to a farmer in another Wisconsin town. I can't find any info in the brochures or on the box about it's age, but the cost to ship this rather heavy little box was only 15 cents, so it's got to be quite old! Two brochures accompany the kit, one giving complete instructions for vaccinating animals from Beebe Laboratories of St. Paul, and the other from Wimco listing all of the kit's parts. The steel syringe plus all the different tips seem to be in good condition. Also in the box is a Glasco 30 ml laboratory measuring cup. I don't believe this was part of the original syringe kit, and in fact, this is a unique measuring tool that is also a great find! I be-leave this is be a antique German blood transfusion kit. The kit contains 2 large glass bottle marked in Ml. And several pieces of glass and rubber tubing. From my research this would be a blood transfusion kit dating somewhere between WW1 and WW2, but I could be wrong and it could date earlier. The kit appears to be complete, but I am not an expert on medical antiques, or a doctor so I cannot tell for sure. None of the glass in the kit is broken or chipped. The wooden case appears to be all original and in great condition, with brass latches to hold the back door in, and a lock for the top(I do not have the key) I truly unique and unusual medical oddity! Antique Medical Kit, 1800s Hypodermic Field Kit, Vials and Hypodermic Needles
Antique Hypodermic Field Kit 1800s Medical Kit. Hypodermic and Medicine Vials From an estate auction of a well-to-do family. I'm not sure if the late owner was a doctor. Or simply collected medical items. The estate included many items from the mid to late 1800s and early 1900s. This kit was included with the other medical items I have listed. The case measures 3 1/2" x 2" when closed. The flap snaps closed. And lifts to reveal 2 inner flaps. The steel hypodermic is held by a metal clamp. And the needles have their own metal clamps. The vials are just a hair under 1/4" wide. Three of them are 2 1/4" long. And one is 2 3/4" long. All have a rubber type stopper, and two have handwritten labels. The hypodermic has pits and erosion on some of its surface. But the plunger moves and is marked. There is a cap that screws ... moreonto the end. There is no maker mark embossed. But the inner surface of the snap is stamped. I've enhanced the last photo, and the best I can make out is"PAT 7 BRE 21 1886" While I'm certain of the first and last parts. The BRE 21 could be something else, it's hard to tell. The case is intact. Although showing dry rot on some edges, and split on the inner flap as you can see. PLEASE NOTE- I did not attempt to clean or restore these items. Other than a wipe with a dry cloth. The leather has a slight musty smell, and the new owner may want to do more cleaning. But I left them basically as I purchased them. To maintain their integrity. After all, there's no telling where this kit was used! Remember to keep sharp items away from children. And please be aware that the residual contents of the vials may be toxic. I have shown the items to the best of my ability. This Kit is very cool and comes with everything that was in the kit when I purchased it years ago. The kit comes with Seven Bottles with labels listed and some of them still have stuff ... morein them. They have cork tops and the small bottles fit perfectly in their spot in this kit as seen in the photos. Inside this kit were also some pretty cool extras. There is 2 Uniform buttons that appear to be from the area this kit was made. There is a large and small button and they have the American Bald Eagle on the front and are very cool. Also included are a clear larger bottle and some cloth. Small rusty blade and some type of paper. Also included with this kit is an Original Medical Scalpel from the Indian War as well. The scalpel did not come with the kit when I purchased it. But I am including it with this sale. This kit is so cool and is in great condition considering the age. You open up the case and it has the place to put the small bottles and then you lift up the little door and there is a place where the other items where stored. On the case above where the button is to snaps it says TRADE(R)MARK in gold. The kit is just under six inches long. 2½ inches wide and 3 inches high. Antique Medical Kit. Surgical Kit A.L. Hernstein Pocket Surgical Kit From an estate auction of a well-to-do family. I'm not sure if the late owner was a doctor. Or simply collected medical items. The estate included many items from the mid to late 1800s and early 1900s. The inner flap is embossed"A.L. Hernstein New York Manufacturer of Surgical Instruments" Measures just over 4" long and 2" tall. And the clasp on the front pulls outward and snaps shut. The first compartment holds two"spools" of suture thread. And 4 suture needles. On the other side. 4 loops hold instruments against a velvet type backing, with two flaps that fold over. There is one instrument missing. It was likely the part that screwed onto the black handle. The silk fabric is split and torn as you can see. The next section has three loops ... moreagainst the velvet backing. And holds two folding instruments. Their cases seem to be shell, and each has an instrument that swivels out. They measure about 3 1/2" long when closed, and there are some chips on the edge of the cases as you can see in the close-up photo. When that section is lifted. Another has 5 loops that hold instruments. There are sections of a curved hollow catheter that screw together, and two wicked looking needles. Behind that section is a pocket that is empty. PLEASE NOTE THE CONDITION- The leather is old and shows its age with scuffs. Cracks and some splits. The outer flap is separated, and the part that would have been held in place by the clasp is torn as you can see. I did not attempt to clean the instruments other than wipe with a cloth, so the metal can be cleaned better if you wish. The leather has a slight musty smell. The items in the kit make it difficult to close tightly, which is probably why the flap is torn. Please keep sharp instruments away from children* I have shown the items to the best of my ability.
