For Parts Repair Vintage Medical Quackery Device in Case Violet Light? LOOK L6 Up for your consideration is this what I believe to be some type of Medical Quackery Device in its original case. Unfortunately there are no marks that I can find to help identify just exactly what it is. In doing some research I question whether this set was originally something to do with violet light however this is purely speculation on my part. If so as you can see in the pics there are no bulbs in the case but the slots in the lid may be to hold them. There is some type of wand but how this hooked up to the set I really have no idea. There is also a green cord in the box that connects under the heavy piece of marble top on the console or tuning knobs. Along with another piece of cloth covered cord. The case which is in good vintage condition measures 12 3/4 inches long, 7 1/2 inches wide and stands 6 1/4 inches high. I was told by the grandson that it was part of his Grandfather's collection. I could not find any makers marks on the belt but was able to find the information on line about these items sold in that time period. This is a rather odd and unusual framed exhibit entitled"Spontaneous Human Combustion: incendiis corporis humani spontaneis Fire From Heaven" This original one-of-a-kind piece is from the private collection of Brennan Dalsgard Publishers. Authenticity Verification Document included with shipment) The title of this piece is a pen-and-ink illustration with some victorian style of flourishes on either side of the main title. There are(3) stories which have each been typed on paper(yellowed over time) Each story is illustrated with a few items that pertain to the combustion. and the gist of each is: 1) On Christmas Eve 1889. Mr. Alonzo Bock of New Orleans was sitting in his favorite chair by the fireplace enjoying the company of family and house guests while partaking in the spirits and sweet foods of the holiday. The ghastly tale goes ... moreon to relate his demise by spontaneous human combustion. 2)1901 Woodlake. Minnessota at a grange dance hall and detail of a woman and her lover. 3) A man at a carnival in 1907 and florid detail and the unfortunate demise by spontaneous human combustion. One corresponding item is a very old looking daguerreotype photo of a little boy. Another item is a small brown hand-sewn purse. An old key with some blond hair attached and what looks like charred fabric. There are(5) old coins as well, which are dated 1887,1899, 1902,1904 and 1905. All of the stoires and the items are mounted on a purple velvet material. This exhibit looks like what could have been in an old dime museum or a traveling circus sideshow. The frame comes with glass. The size of the image area is around 16 inches wide by 22 inches high. The size of the frame is around 20 inches by 26 inches. Very unusual. Unique collectable. Original 1890 advertising newspaper for the Nebraska State Medical and Surgical Institute coming to the Commercial Hotel in Postville, Indiana. Newspaper measures 12 1/2" x 18 1/4" and has four sides. Item has surface, corner and edge wear: has been folded a few times leaving numerous creases, front page has large separation at center crease and right side has a few folds and creases, hopefully scans will show this in detail. Text is dificult to read along the edges of the separation. Has been neatly folded and I will ship that way. This item would make a great addition to any collection! Up for auction I have a"VOLTAMP BATTERY NO.7" This is the"OLYMPIA" MODEL. I believe that all of the working parts for this are present except for the dry cell battery that would have been below the coil. I have no way of test this so it is being sold"AS IS" The instruction panel is mostly complete and is fully readable. There are patent dates in the instructions from the late 1800's. This was manufactured by the"VOLTAMP ELECTRIC MFG CO. BALTIMORE. MD" The original fingerjointed wooden box has some slight normal wear, paint drips and paint flecks. There is a slight separation on the glue joint on the bottom panel. The plated parts show some wear and a little rust- oxidation(not bad) I'm guessing that the plates with the attached wires and plugs were for placing on a persons various body parts ... moreand were plugged into the 1,2,and 3 holes on the board. Vintage Antique Quackery Quack Medicine Medical Electro Electric shock machine
This is a strange old piece of"medical" quackery. I don't know much about it other than it was in my parents basement and they are cleaning things out like the many late 1800's and early 1900's blueprints I had for sale and the glass negatives. The man who used to live there had several strange things like this that we are finally getting around to selling. My dad said this actually works. Or at least gets current through it, but we don't really know what it does. There are no markings with a name that I can see. The front of the box has a pretty scrolled silver lock(that works) and the box opens up to see the handles with the electric cords and the knobs and whatnot. The box itself is a heavy wood and measures about 9" tall. 7.5 deep and 6.75 wide We would be interested in learning more if you know what this ... moreis just for curiosity sake. Medical Quackery Device SUPREME ELECTRIC BELT. Physicians Institute Manufactured From an estate. Up for auction is this very unusual early quackery medical device item. Stamped in gold on the inside of the back of the belt is that it is manufactured by the Supreme Electric Belt from the Physician’s Institute. Masonic Temple, Chicago, Illinois. The belt is about 34” long and about 3.5” wide at the red felt section shown in the photos. There is a series of interconnected copper plates that slides in between the red and purple“sleeve” that is worn against the body. If my research is correct. The belt was patented in the 1890's. The inner portion of the belt has three large round metal discs. Two of which are intended to be placed against the bare skin on either side of the spinal column, the other centered in the front. Also part of this ... moreelectric belt is a metal“spiral suspensory loop” which is supposed to be used as a treatment directly to the private parts and should be placed about them when the belt is put on. Included is a cloth belt that has a"jock strap" look to it of sorts. The supposed"benefits" claimed from this device were wide and varied. Unique and interesting quack medicine item, from the early days of electricity when it was touted as a cure for all ailments. For rheumatism, liver, kidneys, stomach and all nervous diseases(so the label states) is in excellent used condition in its original box. This was sold in the late 1800's to early 1900s to help cure many types of medical problems and troubles. It states that this device would take care of Rheumatism, Liver,Kidneys, Stomach, and all Nervous Diseases. The belt measures about 41 inches long, has a satin material outer layer and a"painted" inner layer. The inside of the belt houses a series of"batteries" ... moreconnected together. I found more information about the device on a website devoted to medical quackery. There should be 4 nickle plated discs,one of the disc is missing there are only 3 as you can see in the pictures with the red ink pen pointing at the missing one, which would come into contact with the skin could be covered with a cloth-like(possibly wool) disc with a stretchy rubber ring sewn on the back side of the disc. see photo) The rubber material is still quite flexible. The belt is made to be worn around the hips and fastened with a web strap and three prong buckle. There is a sliding metal spring on the front band that can be used are can be unsnapped to taken off.
