These glasses do NOT have any ... moreglass in them and the stems are the extension stems, as I showed in the pictures. These measure 4 1/4" across the front and come with a black leather, over metal case. The case has velvet inside and the outside hinges are covered with the leather. With these frames being coin silver, there is no pitting or corrosion, they are in wonderful condition and there is a ridge for the glass. I see these glasses being advertised as Civil War Era.I don't know glasses well enough to know that for sure. But, I do know a bit about coin silver and that it is a colonial times metal. Could be earlier. A magnet does not stick to these frames but it does stick to the case. Maybe someone knows if Benjamin Franklin used the mark F&Co. I welcome all questions.

The nose pieces or clips appear to have had some type of pad at one time that has deteriorated or been removed. The hinge/ spring still is functional. The lenses are of an oval shape– 1 ½” x 1 ¼. The left lens has a chip out of the lower edge toward the outside and a spot of glue or something about 1/8” above the bottom edge at the middle of the lens. The glasses are an overall width of approximately 4. The metal case appears well-used. It is lined with velvet which is still mostly intact. The exterior appears rusted in places and was perhaps once painted black– there is evidence of black under the edge of the front where the cover overlaps. The spring mechanism still works fine. Overall. The case measures approximately 4 ½” x 1 5/8. If you purchase more than one item from my auctions. I will gladly send a revised invoice to combine shipping if it will save you money. The nose pads are tortoise shell and I can not find any markings on the eye glasses but the chain brooch is marked“Ketcham& McDougall. East Orange NJ, Ketchall” The width of the glasses is 4" while the diameter of each glass lens is 1.5" There is also an eye doctors label inside the case from Oshkosh Wisconsin. The lovely top has beautiful Mother-of-Pearl and Abalone shell inlay in the middle and on both ends. At one end the top opens by flipping downward. Measures 6-1/8” long. 1-5/16” wide and ¾” deep. The section that opens is 1-7/8” long from the tip to its brass hinge. The inside is lined with a light brown slightly burgundy felt. The top has an etched design that is not easy to see because the inlay is so bright and eye-catching. The wood has been heavily lacquered on both sides. The hinge is in perfect condition and the case opens and closes as it should. And it remains closed when shut. ... moreNo cracks or splits to the wood. Some crazing to the lacquer on the top which you can see in the photographs. Normal amount of scratches you would expect from an item this old. The frames have some slight patina in a few places. The outside of the case is damaged. The outer covering is missing from about half of the top and is torn on the bottom. Antique Georgian XVIIIth century extending arm silver spectacles / eye glasses
Maker’s mard IS with small‘t’ inside the arm. Typical shape of XVIIIth century to possibly early XIXth century. Approximate measurements: 120 mm long across the front/the arms are 170 mm long fully extended. Condition: There is some play on the hinges. One of them has been discreetly reinforced with lead solder and one of the glasses is damaged. Final comments: Nice. Early collectable eye glasses in reasonable condition. ANTIQUE BRASS MAGNIFYING GLASS 1900 microscope spectacles quizzing This is a great ANTIQUE BRASS FRAMED MAGNIFYING GLASS In my estimation it dates from around the late 19th Century. Circa 1900, but please make up your own mind about this. The magnifying glass measures approx 3 1/2 inches(90mm) long and has a brass frame. With a handle which doubles as a suspension loop. It is in good original condition with light wear consistent with its great age. And a scrubbed patch in the centre of the glass, but no damage or repairs. ANTIQUE SILVER D SHAPE 4 BLUE LENS SPECTACLES TURN PIN FOLDING SIDES C. 1815
This is a pair of antique 1815 British silver hallmarked spectacles which measure 4 3/4 inches across the front and 7 1/2 inches when the arms are fully extended. These spectacles have double D shaped folding frames. Rare blue coloured lenses and the turn pin folding arms are pivoted in the middle and can rotate 360 degrees. The spectacles have the British silver lion passant impressed into both ends of the arms and there are also silver hallmarks on either side of the nose bridge- one is the leopards's head for London and the other the date letter"u" for the year 1815. I have dated these spectacles for 1815 but because of the position and size of the date letter"u" they could be possibly be for the year 1835- someone will keep me right! In the late 1790's the optician J.R. Richardson invented spectacles hinged ... moreon the inside in such a ways that they could be swing forward when the sun was too bright. By the beginning of the 19th century, when people were beginning to travel about rather more, these four-lens spectacles were adapted to give the traveller protection from dust and grit by making all four lenses in a D shape. The condition of these spectacles is very good- there are no dents, splits, damage or repairs to the silver frames and the hinges are all original and in good working order. The lenses are also original and intact with no chips but for accuracy in my description I will point out that there are two small scratches to the glass- one on a front lens and another on a side lens- they do not detract in any way and I am sure the buyer can have them polished out. This antique pair of 1815 silver spectacles with double D shaped folding frames and rare blue lenses would make and ideal gift or a great addition to any collection.

The nose bridge is decorated with two dragon heads and the ear stems are decorated to resemble bamboo. Ear stems are double folders with flat and pieces. Lenses have a slight blue tint and have no magnification. Glass is scratched and chipped on both lenses. All hinges are loose and a bit wobbly. One hinge has a modern repair. The nose pieces or clips appear to have had some type of pad at one time that has deteriorated or been removed. The hinge/ spring still is functional. The lenses are of an oval shape– 1 ½” x 1 ¼. The left lens has a chip out of the lower edge toward the outside and a spot of glue or something about 1/8” above the bottom edge at the middle of the lens. The glasses are an overall width of approximately 4. The metal case appears well-used. It is lined with velvet which is still mostly intact. This cool pair of antique or vintage spectacles has some issues. The hinge screws are gone. And replaced with something else, which allows the temples to go 360 degrees. That being said, the lenses are in nice shape, and they have a nice old case in decent shape. The case works well. And is tight and right. There are no markings that I can see. Retractable eyeglass keeper. All this in the original case. The spring assisted stamped: Shur-On. Nosepiece is also stamped 1/10 12 KT. Condition of this is excellent.very clean-shows no wear. The Ketchall-made by Ketchum& McDougall( Feb. 1903) is also excellent-showing no wear. The point on the pin-clip is factory sharp. The chain is about 16" long and works good. The spectacles are Bi-Focal as mentioned and the lenses are clear and clean. They have some type of brown banding around them. As you can see in the pictures. One side is in need of repair. It is a clean break with no small pieces ... moremissing. Should be an easy fix for someone with a steady hand and knowledge. The steel eyeglass case is also in excellent condition. it has a blue velvet inside along with the name and address of the original owner from Pittsburgh.Pa.
