Studied at Dartford Grammar School before St Bartholomew's Hospital in London, and at Aberdeen, and early in life became known as a skillful surgeon and dissector. Of which he acted for a time as sub-editor, which first led him to take up skin diseases as a special study. Otto Haab(April 19. 1850- October 17, 1931) was a Swiss ophthalmologist who obtained his doctorate from the University of Zurich, where, as a student, he was an assistant to Karl Joseph Eberth in pathological anatomy. In 1886 he succeeded Johann Friedrich Horner as professor of ophthalmology at Zurich and made contributions involving pathological anatomy of the eye, as well as in treatment of eye-related lesions. In 1885 he clinically described senile macular degeneration. His name is associated with several medical eponyms, that include: Haab's reflex" which is another name for pupillary light reflex, and"Haab's magnet" a powerful magnet used for removing metallic particles from the eye. Also, the"Haab scale" is a device used to measure pupillary diameter, and"Haab's striae" are horizontal breaks in the Descemet membrane associated with congenital glaucoma. Wolfe wrote his name and the date Oct. 11, 1887. The cover has some wrinkles, but over all the book is good. This book came from the estate of Dr. Samuel J. Bucher. Dr. Bucher was born 4-13-19 at Wrightsville, Pa. He graduated from Goshen College and Temple University School of medicine. He moved to a little town( Harman, WV) in 1946 and practiced medicine there until his retirement in 1990. He delivered several thousand babies including his three grandsons. There are recipes for curing different ailments, lots of testamonial letters from"cured" people, and advertisements for Dr. Flowers different medicines. This booklet has 48 pages and measures 5 3/4" x 8 3/4" The condition is good considering it's age. It has yellowed and the back cover is off and is torn as shown in the 4th picture.
