It's stainless steel and in exceptionally good condition. ... moreThe Sklar Co. is a manufacturer of OB/GYN supplies and has been making speculums for over 120 years! This speculum has a bill that's 3 1/2" x 1 1/2" the handle and end of the bill is 4 3/4" long. That is extremely small for a speculum. So this piece is VERY rare. It's also rare because of its age and the fact that it's stainless steel; speculums are increasingly made of plastic as time goes on, and the non-disposable steel ones such as this have been all but phased out of professional medical use. This is partially the result of the discovery of HIV/AIDS and the resulting fear of sterilizable, potentially reusable medical tools. Disposable plastic speculums are used nowadays. The sensational aspect of this piece is the fact that it was intended for use in the vaginal exam of an infant or small child! It features a wide-view design with a large opening to allow for the introduction of instruments or tubes into the vagina. A child's or infant's speculum such as this one is very rarely used in professional medical practice because it's much too small for an adult virgin and speculums are generally not used in pediatric exams anyway.think about it. Vintage Antique Medical Veterinary Surgical Tools Blades with Case
For your consideration is this rare antique surgical kit with tools and knife blades as shown. The tools do have tarnish. Rust and spots of plating loss and are coming to you as found. I have no good knowledge of the use or what is there or missing. The velvet lined case displays the set nicely especially the blades, really intimidating! There are 10 loose instruments, all metal with one having an ebony wood handle. The item in the next to last photo has a split down the back side of the tube. Overall the case measures 16" x 18" x 4" and is solid and in pretty good shade. The latches on the case work well but do not have keys. These 19thC Medical Tools come with a 9 ¼” long by 2 ¼” wide and 1 ¾” tall leather case. The top of this case is embossed with an English Coat of Arms from London. Antique vintage primitive wood medical doctor box bag, sign, vials, blade, tools
Up for auction to U.S. customers only is some old medical memorabilia. Apparently from two different doctors. Included is a black wood box with bottles, vials, tools, blades(for scalpels, I think) catgut, needles, and a variety of tools- I can't be sure but I think most are incomplete. Check out the pictures. There's an MD medallion; I guess it could have been used on the doctor's vehicle. And there's a wooden sign in the shape of a doctor's bag which apparently was nailed somewhere on or in the office. Although these were together at the estate sale there are two different doctor's names- Baldi on the sign and Bennett on the box. I have no history on these pieces so it could be they were partners, one took over the other's practice, or these items were part of a bigger medical collection- take your choice. The ... moresign is 13 x 10 inches and the box is 13 x 7 x 5 inches closed. The box is worn, the handle taped and part of the finish is crackled; the sign has two nail holes. This is not original to the bag but appears to be. The lettering shows signs of distress from use. The latch is secure and opens easily. There is an antique skeleton key attached that reads"Sargent 6" It is not the key for the lock on the bag. The interior is in great condition with only a small separation at the corner of the pocket.
