Antique Quack? Medicine IONTAPHOR Medical Device FREE SHIPPING!!!
This auction is for a device that I thought might be a quack medical device but it seems the modern version of it is a very lucrative and high quality instrument. And quite costly I might add. I suppose this is one of the early versions, probably not pre 30s but more likely in the forties. It is made by a W. D. Tallman in Ashland Ohio. The divice here is pretty much all there but upon removing the dial cover I find all the parts, but a three pronged cord with nothing plugged into it. It might have been the power source, ie. some sort of battery or something. I can't really explain the purpose of this Iontaphor but it has something to do with aligning the ions in the body to absorb more medicines or something to that effect. It contains the wires and several lead sheets for connectivity, a glass test tube and a cloth wrap and of course ... morethe meter and switch panel. One source even listed it as a device to enable the enamel in the teeth to absorb medicine. I hope you know much more about this than I do. A full corked bottle of"DR. KING'S NEW DISCOVERY" and box it came in. It says revision 1921 on the box. The bottle is in excellent condition and apparently never opened. It has chloroform which would put the user out of their misery. The bottle is embossed too(see photo) It is 8-1/4 inches tall. Box is tattered and torn at the top and missing some cardboard and the closing flaps. I glued and taped pieces back on the top area as can be seen in the photos. Antique quack medicine vapo cresolene miniature oil/kerosene lamp, with bottle
For your consideration an antique vapo cresolene lamp. these lamps were used with a burner to dispense"cresolene" vapors into the sick room. I. it is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. it is marked"made in the USA" on the bottom. the chimney that I have included is original and displays well. the original chimneys are very difficult to find.the burner is perfect and moves and displays well. it does not include the medicine tray(but there is a seller on ebay that makes replicas) and a vapo cresolene bottle in green glass with cresolene residue in it. this is a great gift for any medical person or lamp collector. This a small single unit stimulating quackery device having the one glass tube with its black bakelite handle. And a chromed shaft as well.which I cannot quite determine was originally with the set. The maker was from Racine, WI, the WESTERN COIL& ELECTRICAL CO, and I believe is 1920's. The glass wand is perfect, no breaks. The box has its original handle, and has some rubs on the exterior as the photo should reveal. I have just plugged it in to see if it works, but a quick test suggests it does not.unless I do not know how to get it stimulated. One of the better-known illustrators of this era, used an art nouveau style to produce a classic white knight theme. This white knight charges at a tobacco plant that is drawn to look like a devil/demon. Effectively driving his lance through demon tobacco. Whether this cure worked is not known. However. It is interesting to note that over a hundred years after this advertisement, the Food& Drug Administration has sought authorization to regulate tobacco as a narcotic. Ink blotters were common as advertising pieces in the teens and 20s because many people used fountain pens. This old blotter is unused. And I only have the one. Wampoles is said to be"perfected and palatable" and is a"Tonic and Stimulant" It was available at Green& Bentley Drug Co. in Oskaloosa. The label of the bottle of course would have many of the virtues listed so far as conditions that it cures. While the print is small to read, you get an idea of the boasts of wonder by the company that the magic elixer is found in: Bell- the Telephone, Edison- electric light, Marconi- Wireless, Lindbergh- New York to Paris Flight, and so on. It appears the Wampoles preparation is one of the wonders of the past 100 years. Nice graphics on this old card- the Wright Bros plane at Kitty Hawk, Lindbergh in his spirit of St. Louis ... moreplane flying the Atlantic alone, The George Washington Bridge and so forth. This is a pretty scarce Western Electric apparatus. This is a short wave radio Diathermy medical device. This has some age to it and it looks late 40's to early 50's to me. Somehow. This dude takes short wave radio waves and it creates deep, penetrating heat(quack medicine at it's finest, although these are still in use today) I plugged this in and it lit up and I am pretty sure it still works. This thing is compact at 16" x 16" x 11" and must weight at least 40 pounds. The case is built like a tank and has a drawer that the two heating pads and cords are stored in it. The case has a couple of scuffs, but is well built and in good shape. The lid is removable and the wood back is held in place by four screws. Antique to older vintage applied color Patent Medicine Quack Dose Glass. Nue-Ovo was a patent medicine– a concoction stated to cure rheumatism/ arthritis. Exact age unknown. But advertisements for Nue Ovo appear in 1930’s newspaper advertisements. Also Court records from the 1940’s rule that Nue Ovo was using false and misleading advertising– a quack medicine item– Labeling on the front of the dose cup states: NUE-OVO Treatment for RHEUMATISM Dosage treatment lines on the side– BEFORE MEALS And BEFORE RETIRING Applied color/ acl/ or pyroglaze appears Red to me. Other glasses I found in collections on the internet stated orange– I do know that people see color differently.
