This auction is for a Bakelite Master Violet Ray master high frequency electrotherapy medical device with three electrode wands. This kit is model#2B. Violet Ray devices were used in electrotherapy. A popular pseudoscience in the early 1900's, which sought to cure disease through light exposure. This device sends charged plasma through glass tubes to the skin. Causing a tingling sensation. The last American violet ray machines were manufactured in 1951. When most were seized and destroyed by the FDA. This particular violet ray dates from the 1920's. The Violet Ray includes three accessories: No. 1 General Electrode. No. 3 Comb-Rake Electrode, and No. 12a Glass Electrode. The electrode wands have different uses. This set originally sold for $28.00 when new. The violet ray includes complete directions for operating and a product warranty ... moreslip. The box the device is stored in is the original case. And the electrodes are also tightly packed within the case with felt lining. Condition of this item is very good. The directions for operating are slightly deteriorated. And the product warranty slip has a few creases on it. The bakelite device weighs 2 or 3 pounds, plugs into an outlet, is in great condition and also operational. All three of the electrode wands have been tested and are operational. The electrode wands are powered by inserting the aluminum end of the wands into the end of the bakelite device to produce an ultra-violet light. Condition of the wands are good. The 12a thin glass electrode has no condition issues. The comb-rake electrode has been used heavily and has burn marks on the ends. The no. 1 general electrode appears cloudy on the round end from prolonged use. This device can be dangerous if used on the skin. It does work(see photos) The case is extremely worn. The hinges are no longer attached, the lid comes off freely, the lining is deteriorating. The wand is in very good condition. The level adjustment works as it is supposed to. The power cord is in good condition. The plug was replaced with an antique plug. The two glass electrodes are perfect. We are featuring a unique tool kit that was used in the stimulating world of electrotherapy; namely what is known as a Violet Ray. A typical violet ray device consisted of an ungrounded electrical control box that controlled the interrupter and which housed the magneto coil. This beautiful vintage Master Violet Ray machine came to me in excellent condition and works flawlessly. Originally it came with only one glass electrode. I am including a second glass electrode which makes it a really nice set. I added photos of the the internal components so the prospective bidder can see the exceptional condition of this machine. I purchase and overhall all kinds of vintage violet ray devices. Frequently a device will show signs of overheating. This is because at some point in it's life. The unit was operated for too long a period. This type of abuse can damage the internal capacitor and the high frequency, high voltage tesla coil inside. When these critical components get damaged by overheating, it can limit a machines life and/or cause it to operate at substandard performance. If you can't see what it looks like ... moreon the inside, you never know what you are going to get. If the operating instructions are followed and this unit is taken care of.
