You are looking at a very well made tripod with still a lot of use left in it. Fully functional including the screw. Would look really cool re-purposed in a decorative environment as a lamp. T he tripod is made of so lid wood. This tripod expands a l l three sections fully in up-right position. Nothing is broken. The legs articulate out 30 degrees and it all folds down flat. There are no markings anywhere on it that I could find-maybe i mported maybe not? I believe it's at least 70 years old if not older but I can't say for certain. It is in nice condition. And measures 18 1/2" long and 8 3/4" high to the top thumb screw. Everything moves freely on this and appears to be in working order. It is marked David White Co. Milwaukee, Wis. U.S.A. No. 61489. Also has a scratched on number: SCS 485448. I think this is a Govt. surplus number from the Soil Conservation Service. Also marked on the brass base: 3 1/2" 8- THDS. This is a antique K+ E Keuffel& Esser Co level scope. It's in great shape for the age and not having a case. As it was in display in my cabinet. On the side it says 133525, Pat. 2438479 Pat. Pend. All levels are still filled with original fluid, and everything seems to work( knobs turn scope spins as I wouldn't even know how to use it) Doesn't have a stand but comes with the threaded piece that screws on the stand so you can build a stand or just sit it as is. Starrett 99F Transit With Original Box Good Condition No Legs This was to be a project that I never got around to finishin’ Needs a good cleaning and the inside of the box is missing. Everything moves just fine Level has bubble Optics are intact no cracks or discoloration There is a lock pin and chain missing for the horizon detent Nickel plating is worn away in places Surface rust. Some pitting but not too serious Does not have the legs…maybe you do? Box could stand refinishing but you can make out the Starrett name on the front as well as a stenciled something The carry strap will have to be replaced…too short for the buckle I believe this to be an older model because of the box style with no name on top and no ridges on top The buckle type strap I don’t believe the wood is oak either. Could be mahogany? there are two latches on this as ... moreopposed to one on the newer boxes The transit has a brass eyepiece and chromed front piece rather than the plastic evident on the newer models As I said this was a project and still is. Up for auction is a amazing antique early 1900's STARRETT#99F Transit in its original wood box and with its original tripod. This is a very rare early engineering item made by one of the top tool companies of the 1900's Starrett. Box tag reads: Starrett Transit No. 99F. 1 Only, With Telescope, With Ground Level Vial(Long Legs Packed Seperately) The L.S. Starrett Co. Athol, Mass. USA" The whole transit and tripod break down and go in to box except the legs. This appears to be a complete kit and it still works like the day it was new! Transit is a little dirty as i picked this item out of a old barn and it has been stored in the rafters for nearly 100 years. It has some slight surface ... morerust on transit and its quite dirty. legs are great, they do have paint loss and some surface rust but they still come apart and adjust beautifully. I didnt want to clean anything up because I would want to do it myself if I purchased item to make sure it was done correct. This really is a amazing set that would look great in any collection or it could still be used to this day. These old sets by Starrett are nearly impossible to find complete and original like this one. The box even has its original leather strao still on it. Box roughly measures 14.5" x 5" x 10. Box with transit weightsnearly 7 pounds and the legs weight nearly another nine pounds. I will ship together or seperately, depending on which service is cheaper or preference of winner. Transit is in very good vintage condition. Lens look nice and clear! Box and Tripod are in good vintage condition. All items show normal wear from use and age. List it looks like this transit was made and sold about 1918-1920 give or take a few years, It's hard to tell the information is not exacting. It comes with the original wood box. ANTIQUE RARE KEUFFEL & ESSER TRANSIT ENGINEER LEVEL K&E WITH ORIG BOX AND MANUAL
Antique K+ E Keuffel& Esser Co level scope. It's in great shape for the age and has the original great shape manual. The box for this piece is included. Would make a beautiful display and nice for someone that collects. On the side it reads 147874(serial number) and matches the plate that is nailed to inside of the box it came in. The plate in box also reads No. NP5153. level works fine. And everything seems to work as knobs turn scope spins as I have no idea how to use it. This tool does not have a stand but comes with the threaded piece that screws onto the stand so you could use a stand if needed. It does have a trivet to be used without a stand. Tripod plate with threads. All leveling screws work. There is a plum bob hook under the scope. It has a sunshade, lens cap, and a couple small tools but I do not know what they are used ... morefor. The box has a slot for these two tools. I truly do not know very much about these but the manual has taught me the names of parts to give a good description. Scope along with box is very heavy which brings the price of shipping high so I am giving first bid and buy it now at a good price. buyer pays shipping and will be shipped with tracking and confirmation. I do not charge for handling or a trip to the P.O. The box is missing a top piece of wood and I have been unable to find it. The leather carry handle and buckle is all there but the strap is separated. Looks like the lenses could use a cleaning. I put many pictures up to get a good look at this piece. Antique Wood Brass Transit, Level Tripod 3 13/16" Old Paint Copper Rivet
Large Antique Wood& Brass Tripod Hello. For your consideration is this large. Early, brass and wood tripod, suitable for large and heavy transits or levels. I believe the wood is mahogany or walnut. The outside diameter of the all- brass head is 3 13/16" The threads are fine. And in my opinion are in good condition. The total length is 56" when folded up. I can find no makers mark on this heavy duty tripod. Only a couple of ISC identification marks(Iowa State College, no w the University of Iowa State) The nicely sculpted legs are approximately 1 3/4" thick at the broadest. And have all brass hardware other than the metal feet. One of the legs has a slight warp. There are of course chips. Age checks and dings as you would expect on a working tripod, and there is an old repair that was made with copper or brass rivets, but ... moreit is very solid and ready for work or display. Nice Antique Brass Surveyor's Transit, 1860-1890
This is a nice. Mid- to late 19th Century brass surveyor's transit(sometimes called a theodolite) It measures 4.0 inches from the top of the brass base to the top of the graduated ring scale. It features a bubble level, spring loaded leveling screws, and two graduated scales. It is predominantly brass, in good condition. The sight, level and a-brackets are finished in olive drab paint with black trim and the large outer scale is steel. I am unable to find a manufacturer's mark, but the transit appears to be either U.K. or U.S. no later than 1900. The optics are fully functional as is the sighting level. A small bubble level on the base appears to be without fluid.

It is marked Buff& Buff Co 9009 Boston U.S.A. It is in good condition with good optics. It comes with a cover for the front lens and a sun shield for the front. The level bubbles are good. It comes in its original wood box. There is a lable on the top of the box that says Buff& Buff Mfg Co Makers Of Engineering Instrumetns Boston. On the inside of the lid of the box are instructions and also a 2 prong key that we don't know what it is for. Often over difficult terrain, are always concerned about weight. W. L. E. Gurley made their first lightweight instrument-an aluminum transit-in 1876. But the prohibitive cost of aluminum kept them from manufacturing instruments of this material. Following World War I, Gurley introduced a line of instruments made of an aluminum alloy named Lynite. Up for auction is an ANTIQUE SCHWENCKE KIRK& CO. BRASS SURVEYING TRANSIT LEVEL W/ ORIGINAL BOX. Circa 1900. This is not my field of expertise so please ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. This just came in from an estate and we will sell it just the way we found it. The transit is marked: Schwencke Kirk& Co. New York. Measures 11" wide and is 7 1/2" tall. Comes in the original wood box that is in good solid condition. Leather strap is missing. It transit seems to be complete. Lenses are clear and intact. Focus adjustment works fine. No cross hairs in the optics. Bubble is fine on the level. We took many pictures so you can get a better look at it. Being this old it will require some cleaning up so we will leave that up to you. The only thing we did was to clean the glass on the compass. Very nice cased Lietz transit#6402. All level vials are intact. And the optics are clear and perfect. It has one vertical crosshair, and two horizontal crosshairs in the top and bottom quadrant. I don't know if it was used in mining or not. There is a steel ring at the top center of the barrel, that I do not know the function of. All adjustment knobs and adjustments work as they should. The wooden case has a broken leather carrying strap, and I have no key for the box. The compass needle is a little over 4" long, and the dial 5" in diameter. In the inside door of the case is a Lasico sticker(Los Angeles Scientific Instrument Co. showing it was last cleaned and inspected on April 22, 1960. Shipping is a flat $45.00 in the Continental US. Book is copyrighted 1950: its a little crumpled but readable and usable- cover is loose. Level seems to be in working order. Tripod has some duct tape on the top of one leg covering a crack- see photo- it is still fully functional. Antique transit with original box on wooden tripod. The transit is coated black and has brass trim. I cannot find a mark or signature on this piece. I don't know if there should be more to this transit but this is in as found condition. The tripod is wooden and adjustable; the wood has a dark tone. There is minor loss to the black coating but there appears to be no damage. The original wooden case is dovetailed construction and is fitted for this transit. I don't know how to use this equipment but it seems to be in good shape. The tripod measures 48" tall; the total height is 54 1/2" and the transit is 10 3/4" long.

Mechanically this level functions with ease. All of the adjustment knobs turn effortlessly and the lenses on the telescope are also in great condition. When looking through the scope the horizontal cross hair mark is perfect while the vertical line has a small ... moresquiggle at the top of the line. The finish on the scope has only two very small black marks and underneath the level is a slightly discolored area around one of the screws. Other than those few cosmetic marks this level looks as though it was barely used. The level still works properly when adjusted. The telescope on this level measures 10 1/2" long. The beautiful wooden box that this Transit Level Telescope comes in is also in fantastic shape. Measuring 11 3/4" long. 7" high and 5 1/4" wide. Both latching hooks, eyelets and leather strap are in great condition with the leather strap showing cracks but no tears or rips. David White Company 1950 Universal Level Transit This surveying tool comes with it's own carrying/storage case. The wooden box is tongue and groove with a latch on the front that holds it closed. The leather strap and buckle go across the top for carrying. The box was painted red. With one side being grey. The bottom has rubber bumpers so it doesn't sit flat on the ground. I shows some wear giving this antique a unique look. It works like it's supposed to, storage/carrying. Dimensions of box: 14"L x 11 1/4"H x 6 3/4"W The suveying tool is in quite good condition. Antique Dietzgen Transit For Land Road Survey Super Nice Old Instrument
Here is a super nice all intact transit ready for use or display. This old Dietzgen transit has sat in its original wood case for many years in an office environment. The transit may need a simple calibration for use. All the bubble levelings are excellent. There are a few adjusting tools in the leather pocket on the interior of the case. And there is a brass plate for possibly mounting the transit on a different surface. There is a brass sun shade too for the telescopic objective. The wood case is a little rough but tight for transport of the transit and has metal corner feet. It needs a new handle. The case with transit is 17 inches tall, 14 inches across and 9 inches deep, and it weighs 29 pounds unpackaged. Antique W. & L. E. Gurley Brass Surveyors Transit Level Instrument CaseTripod
This is a W. L. E. Gurley Land Surveyor’s or Civil Engineer’s transit/level instrument with original wood case. Tripod and measuring sticks. It belonged to a friend’s grandfather, A.H. Smith, that was born in 1862 and passed away at the age of 102 in 1964! The instrument itself is in excellent original condition and has aged to a great patina(untouched) There is also a round metal sleeve that fits over the front of the telescope to aid with sun glare. The level seems to be still in good working order as when you peer through the scope, you can see the cross-hairs. There are multiple fine adjustments on the bottom base. The manufacturer's stamp is on the base of the piece"W. L.E. Gurley, Troy, NY" and there is also a serial number on the bottom of the base"10372" which tells me that the level was manufactured in 1910(the ... morefirst two numbers of the serial number represent the year of manufacture) The original wood box is dovetailed and still bears the original undamaged leather carrying strap. There is a paper label on the inside top of the Box that bears the manufacturer’s name and also Grand Daddy Smith’s business cards with the notation“cleaned& adjusted 8-11” which tells me that it was serviced at least 102 years ago. There are two hooks to close the box. A fine example of early 20 th century precision instrumentation! It is very old. copy and paste the link below to view my source. the black material on the bottom of the instrument is where the styrofoam or bedding that the instrument sat in while in the box has melted and stuck to the bottom of the instrument. you can rub it and it curmbles off. i found this instrument this way and left it. i figured that the person who bought it would know how to get it all off without damaging the finish of the instrument. i don't know anything about the operation of the instrument but you can see thru the scope. i do know that it was used by a contractor that moved earth and then retired and is now dead. it is sold as is. surveyhistory.org/how_old_is_my_c_l_berger_sons

Up for auction is this fine old K EUFFEL& ESSER CO. Surveyors Level. Made in New York in 1919. This is a quality Engineers Level. Serial number is 40469. The markings incised into the body of the Level are: KEUFFEL& ESSER CO. NEW YORK S ERIAL 40469 Also there is a plaque on the case that gives the same information along with major cities of operation. The case measures 19 3/4 by 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" and the combined weight of the case and the Level is 23 pounds! The optics are good. Lenses are clear and everything works as it should. The rear focus wheel could u se some lubrication. But I did not want to do any thing that a collector would not like. So I left it alone. Impressive 19 3/4" long when extended. Solid old wooden case is weathered and aged as you would expect from 90 years of living. It still closes properly ... moreand latches on one side. The other side is missing the little eyehook. BRUNSON Oak legged Tripod Surveyor's Transit Stand fits: Keuffel& Esser. Dietzgen and any other Transits with a 3-1/2" 8 threads 59" length of legs. Each leg has a steel end cap for positioning it in the ground. Sturdy construction of solid Oak wood. The threads and mount are brass(perfect threads) And have an aluminum thread protector ring that reads: BRUNSON K. C. MO. 3 1/2" 8 THREADS. This piece may not be perfect but will make an excellent project or a user. The paint could be removed and to really set it off. It could be stained for a more traditional look. TRANSIT Here's a very fine an d old level transit. I'm not sure how the se are used exactly so ask any questions prior to bidding if you have any concerns. This stands 10 1/2" tall when put together and the top scope is 9 1/2" long when expanded. There are two levels on the base with liquid in them; a compass with working needle and also a smaller scope of some kind(see photo) I'm not sure where th is goes on the transit. Seems to be in good condition for the most part with wear to brassing. There is a very small dent to the small tube that's attached t o the top of the larger scope. The section that holds the scope(with the half wheel) is stamped" F MURPHY C.E. DUBLIN" and the base is stamped"K YEATES 2 GRA FTON STRT DUBLIN" just be low the compa ss section. Antique A.S. Aloe Co. St. Louis, 12791, engineers surveyors transit with original case. A must-have example of historic scientific instruments. The piece shows overall wear including slight scratches, discoloration, minimal tarnishing, and scuff marks found on the case. Overall, I would rate the condition as very very good. I am not an expert on this type of instrument. The levels have the fluid and bubbles and all the knobs appear to function properly on this item. The lenses appear mint. That's a bit of dust and a hair on the glass, it is not damaged as it may appear in the picture. The dovetailed wood case has a beautiful patina and includes the tools seen on the pictures.
