Antique Bed Spread Coverlet Woven Blue Birds Old Farm House Estate
A wonderful Blue Bird bed spread here from a farm sale. It is old and I think probably 1930s. They said it had been in the family for years. It is woven but woven with a beautiful pattern that I have never seen before. It is a summer weight and was used on a sleeping porch a long time ago. There are two tiny areas that are thin with a hole but this is such a lovely spread and you can not see the the areas unless you look for them as they are near the edge. Reversible with white and blue birds. I am only guessing at the age as I have no clue but it is old! 108" by 76" It really makes you feel as if Spring is nearly here. We welcome your emails. Pretty woven coverlet-middle seam-Circa 1840's-low opening bid-unusual colors
THIS IS A 5 DAY AUCTION- This auction is for a very pretty circa 1840's woven coverlet. It was woven in two pieces and joined with a center seam. The top and bottom edges are rolled and stitched. The colors are very pretty shades of blue pink and white/cream. I seems as if the colors are the original I don't see much fading. It feels like the fibers are wool. I don't know much about old textiles so I'm really not sure. Anyway. This is a pretty coverlet. It has some thin spots throughout and it needs a good cleaning but would be useable for a bed or to fold in a cupboard. The measurements are 72 inches wide and 86 inches long. Colonial Woven Coverlet Tennessee Trouble Red Antique White TwinSize Made in USA
The colors in this twin size coverlet are red and antique/white. The antique white shows more of a buttery yellow off-white in person and viewed across the room. The color is more like an heirloom woven blanket would be found today in a trunk with a hint of coloring of age. It measures 69X94. It has a full bodied feel of an antique coverlet. This pattern is dated from the 1850's from Hamblen County. TN, and was originally woven by the elder lady of the Crosby family of Hamblen County. Our woven textiles are made right here in Pennsylvania as they were made originally. They may have a center seam down the middle. This is not a defect and is period correct for the textile. Made of cotton/acrylic blend and is machine wash and dry. We gladly combine purchases to save you money on shipping. So please check into our other offerings.

1800's COVERLET Antique PENNSYLVANIA American EAGLE - Double Woven 72 by 84"
This antique Pennsylvania American Eagle 1800's coverlet was double woven. It was made on a large loom and does not have a center seam. Red. Tan and dark blue wool yarn was woven into a natural color cotton base. It has a lot of missing blue yarn at both ends, for some reason the blue yarn did not wear very well but the other colors are fine. There are small areas at the edge that show wear also and most of the fringe is missing. Please look closely at the center, there are a few small holes in the star area but they are only on one side. Many of the areas are in very good condition. The reverse side has much less red as shown but is very pretty also. It is clean and odor free, it's size is 72 by 84 inches. Extra-large woolen coverlet in double weave cloth created by piecing together four hand-woven panels. Reverse side is complementary of front. This piece is one of the earliest types of American coverlets. It has been finished with blue velvet trim on three sides and the top edge is hand rolled and sewn. ANTIQUE 1838 Philadelphia Fancy Jacquard double woven blue white eagle coverlet
This sale is for a coverlet woven in Philadelphia. We did some research on this textile and discovered it was probably made by German Men that developed a from of loom weaving called Jacquard. They often did these for weddings or different occasions and the date was placed in the corner as well as the person's name that was being honored with the gift. These weaving were often cotton and wool and sometimes the wool was home spun to cut production cost. At one time they were fairly common according to our research. This coverlet was made for a Sarah Johnson in 1838. We think the pattern is called Double Lilly or Lillies of France. and it has Liberty borders with Eagles. and what we think are fruit trees. You will find this on 3 sides only. The other initials have some meaning probably about the weaver but we could not find anything on ... morethis. We have owned this coverlet for many years. Before that is was in the family for many years stored for awhile and used for awhile. At one point my aunt had it in her home and stitched the blue material on the back and placed the edge of the coverlet( that has no eagles) between two boards and hung it. Later we received it. It is not as a result. The weaving is actually very sound except for a expected edge wear and a couple of edge tears show in the pic and in the center where the two pieces were stitched together there is some MINOR seperation shown also. We saw a few areas where it looked as repairs may have occured( small areas) There may be some other separations but there are to huge holes or tears in the center of this piece. We used this piece at the bottom of a bed for decoration only. It has not been cleaned by us. It appears to be a heavy wool and cotton to us. It is dark on one side and light on the other. We think this is called double woven. We would say the colors are dark blue and cream. We see some brown age spots here and there to be expected from something heading for 200 years old. I bought this coverlet at an estate auction in Culver Indiana. I know nothing about woven items and can't adequately describe the weave structure of this piece. The explanation below is from the best judgement of two experts in the soft coverings field that I contacted and who gave me their best explanation based on the photos I sent them: This is a woven piece. It appears to be a complex Jaquard double weave with two ply warp and welf yarns.The warp is dark blue.Gold and white and the welf is light blue green and white.It doesn't seem to be antique, probably modern and looks foreign but can't guess where or what vintage. Vintage Cotton TEXAS STAR of BETHLEHEM Coverlet Quilt Blanket Pink Antique Woven
This beautiful vintage woven coverlet from the 1930s has been in hiding for a very long time and needs to be seen. Formerly held in a collection and kept in ideal storage conditions this one emerges in superb vintage condition. Nice and clean with the exception of one spot that can be seen in the last photo. Nothing to stop you from enjoying this one. The striking pattern is full of tiny little details that make it most appealing to the eye. The paper tag on one corner is a sale tag from long ago. This coverlet has no sign of a makers tag. The overall size is 78 X 94 inches. This is a very well made and light weight cotton coverlet. Hard to tell which side is the best as it views nicely on both sides. The scalloped border is nicely finished with a square knot type stitched edge. Fine design detailing in the pattern. CONDITION: Just a few ... morethread pulls that are hard to fnd and one spot that looks removable on one corner to worry about. Otherwise. It is in great condition and very soft and strong. It does not appear to have been used much. There are no rips, tears or areas of wear to note. Nice uniform consistency overall with no evidence of thinning or weakness in the fibers. The colors are uniform. The condition of the fabrics is excellent. There is a no odor to this coverlet and it does not appear to have been exposed to smoke. Pets or abuse. It looks as if it has been kept from over exposure to sunlight. It has been very well cared for over the years. It has been carefully stored away from pets and in a smoke free clean environment. OLD Home Spun Hand Woven Tattersall Plaid Blanket Coverlet Great color and pattern. This old blanket or coverlet came from a Canadian household and makes is certain to add warmth to any setting. It was entirely hand made. The fabric is home spun wool and the blanket was hand loomed. The pattern is a bold tattersall check plaid composed of candy pink and yellow stripes separated by cream color squares. It was woven in panels with the top third panel composed of three pieces. All panels were hand stitched together. Selvege edge sides. Top and bottom edges hemmed. Probably made sometime between 1920-30s. Measures approximately 82 inches x 90 inches. The blanket was well cared for so the colors are still vibrant and clear but it was used and shows several areas where the fabric has thinned and several repairs. Even so. ANTIQUE BED COVERLET WOVEN IN 1851 BY GERMAN IMMIGRANTS TO OHIO
FOR SALE is a 160+ year old woolen reversible bed covering woven in 1851 by F. Yearous for Jacob Holler in Knox County. Ohio. Both Yearous and Holler were German immigrants to the area. I got the blanket through my grandmother, the daughter of German immigrants, who was born in the 1870’s in Loudenville, Ashland County, Ohio. I do not know how she got it or how she used it. The family has no connection with the weaver or recipient. When my grandmother died the coverlet passed to my mother, who stored it folded in her cedar chest. Mom died and the coverlet came to me. I store it wrapped in 100% white cotton and rolled around a cardboard carpet tube. The blanket measures 81 inches by 72 inches. The colors are red. Blue and white and the pattern is reversible—what is red and blue on one side is white on the other. The bird and flower border ... moresurrounds all four edges of the geometric patterned coverlet. CONDITION ISSUES: The blanket shows damage from age and improper storage. Some of the edges are frayed and there is a tear with a piece torn out. This vintage. Red, white, and blue woven coverlet measures approximately 55” x 64” The coverlet was probably from western Pennsylvania around the 1860’s– 1880’s. The vivid colors showcase the pine tree pattern on three edges. It was woven in two pieces, that were hand sewn together along the vertical center. The typical attached fringe, on three sides only, is in good condition with a few missing areas. The side without fringe would be placed at the head of the bed. Shown is a close up of a repair on the back of the coverlet. Just to the right of the repair is a small hole that only goes through the back layer. 1838 NorthHampton County PA Fancy Jacquard dbl woven blue white eagle coverlet
This sale is for a coverlet woven in Pennsylvania. We did some research on this textile and discovered it was probably made by German Men that developed a form of loom weaving called Jacquard. They often did these for weddings or different occasions and the date was placed in the corner as well as the person's name that was being honored with the gift. These weavings were often cotton and wool and sometimes the wool was home spun to cut production cost. At one time they were fairly common according to our research. This coverlet was made for a Sarah Johnson in 1838. We think the pattern is called Double Lilly or Lillies of France. and it has a Liberty border with Eagles. and what we think are fruit trees. You will find this on 3 edges only. The other initials have some meaning probably about the weaver but we could not find anything on ... morethis. An ebayer sent us the following information.Your Coverlet was not made in Philadelphia. The conerblock designates the maker's name-P Hillard who worked in Upper Mt Bethel Township Northampton County PA. So this is good to know. We looked him up and he did indeed exist and apparently was a land owner. Married etc. He did not weave for a long time so we imagine his weavings are more rare. We have owned this coverlet for many years. Before that is was in the family for many years, stored for awhile and used for awhile. At one point my aunt had it in her home and stitched the blue material on the back and placed the edge of the coverlet( that has no eagles) between two boards and hung it. Later we received it. It is not misshaped from being hung. The weaving is actually very sound except for some minor expected edge wear and a couple of edge tears show in the pictures and in the center where the two pieces were stitched together there is some MINOR seperation shown also. We saw a few areas where it looked as if repairs may have occured( small areas) There may be some other separations but there are NO huge holes or tears in the center of this piece. Up for auction is a vintage antique woolen coverlet or spread recently found at auction in the Lancaster County. PA area. It is found in good used condition, with the only condition issue to report of a weak area which has been repaired,close to the edge. This area is best shown in photo#8-9. Primary colors are green, brown, beige and white. Tassels decorate the boarders. Very decorative, it measures approximately 60" x 62" in size. A very nice textile. Antique Woven Wool Reversible Coverlet Indigo Blue and White ~ Center Seam
Nice antique woven wool reversible coverlet. It measures approx 72" x 86" and has a center seam. From what I've read. The 2 parts were woven on a narrow loom and then seamed together. It has a dark idigo blue and white geometric design. The lighter side would have been for the summer.darker for the winter. The top is hand hemmed and the bottom has very short fringe. Overall, it is in decent condition. I found 2 brown age spots.see pictures 11& 12. There are also 2 spots near the repair.found them after the pictures. There is a worn spot at the top.picture 10.probably where the cover was pulled up over and over. It looks like there was a hand repair at one time. It does need to be fixed. The first picture shows it with the center seam lengthwise. Old beds were usually low to the ground so it would have fit an old double bed. ... morePicture 2& 3 show it with the seam crosswise. It would look great with a dust ruffle and shams. This has been in my family for a long time. I'm not sure where my Mom got it. Text on blanket reads: Bethany Genesee County. NY 1835. This is from a rural town in upstate New York and coverlet was made shortly after its founding. Wouldn't you love to own a piece of history? Excellent condition: this item has no holes or fold marks and comes from a pet-free and smoke-free environment. Reversible navy and cream color. Beautiful detailed fringe. Here is an elegant and exultant work of weaving by the noted artist John Klinhinz from Ohio. John Klinhinz is famous for the coverlets and throws that he created using Jacquard weaving process. In fact it is now common to see his original works(such as this) frequently reproduced. The corner blocks clearly identify John Klinhinz as the weaver and date and location is OHIO 1848. This coverlet was woven in two sections and joined at the middle. The interior has 20 very large and beautiful Star Medallions. Antique Vintage Country Hand Woven Coverlet, Blue Wool, Natural Linen, 70x88"
This is an amazing piece of textile. Not often available today, that has done quite a bit of time travel to arrive intact today. Composed of two separately woven segments, joined together down the middle by firm hand stitching, it measures 70x80" The fabric appears to be indigo wool woven on a natural colored linen base. The s elvedge edges are distinctive to hand weaving. And the ends are tightly turned and handsewn hems. I have not had this item cleaned in the many years I have owned it, and it has remained carefully stored in my home. While it doesn't have any odd odors or problems with insects, I would recommend a gentle dust removal by a careful professional once it reaches its ultimate destination. I have had it in my possession for over 30 years after acquiring it at a countryside estate sale here in Colorado. After h aving ... moredone some modest research. I believe this coverlet may have had its origins here in the once-Spanish southwest. Linen was frequently the base for many hand-woven textiles in the home and wardrobes of our reg ion, and in this case is somewhat darker than the photos would indicate. The colors are deep red and cream with the color pattern reversed on each side. This is in overall good condition with some of the normal issues you'd expect with a blanket that received normal use. The edges have a rolled hem which has loosened stitching in some areas. Some of the red fibres are worn- more obvious when viewed up close. Feel free to ask any questions you may have before bidding. Here is a beautiful vintage 63" x 72" woven wool coverlet blanket. In bright blue and white. This textile will stand out in a cottage or country decor. It will also look amazing as a table cloth or as a wall hanging and can also be used as pillow top fabric. The hem is rolled and stitched on two sides and fringe is on the other two sides. Antique Vintage Country Hand Woven Coverlet Red White & Blue, 66x84"
This is an other extraordinary textile. Not often found now, having made quite a bit of time travel to arrive intact today. Composed of two separately woven segments, joined together down the middle by firm hand stitching, it measures 66x84" The fabric appears to be indigo wool and scarlet cotton woven on a natural colored linen base. The s elvedge edges are distinctive to hand weaving. And the ends are tightly turned and handsewn hems. There is an endearing irr egularity to the edges and weaving of the two joined pieces. That leaves us with the evidence of the weavers hand. I have not had this item cleaned in the many years I have owned it. And it has remained carefully stored in my home. While it doesn't have any odd odors or problems with insects, I would recommend a gentle dust removal by a careful professional once it reaches ... moreits ultimate destination. I have had it in my possession for over 30 years after acquiring it at a countryside estate sale here in Colorado, along with the blue and natural piece I offer el sewhere here on eBay. After h aving done some modest research. I believe this coverlet may have had its origins here in the once-Spanish southwest. Antique indigo/flax woven coverlet
This is a beautiful handwoven 18th Century coverlet.also know as Linsey-Woolsey. I discovered this at a Kentucky thrift store thrown in with material remnants. Thinking that it was just a large scrap of pretty material. I bought it. After unfolding it, I realized that this was a full size woven bedspread. Wanting to find out more, I had an aquantance take a look at it. She's a curator at a local museum, and she specializes in antique textiles. She told me that it was a late 1700's handwoven coverlet, and that the center seam was typical for that time period, as people sewed two woven pieces together to make a full size. She was amazed at the good condition and told me that the damage on the one corner was typical for the age, showing that it was actually used. This is a 9 by 12 inch corner block of a coverlet woven by Isaac Schaeffer in 1845. In her book"American Coverlets and their Weavers" by Clarita Anderson we learn that Isaac Shaeffer produced coverlets from 1835-1845 in New Berlin, Ohio. In the corner blocks were his name, occupation, location, date and sometime the client's name and often"Coverlet Weaver. Sheaffer wove in Lancaster Co. Pa, about 1835; in Plain Twp. Stark Co. Ohio, ca. 1839-1840; in Jackson Twp. Stark co. Ohio, about 1842; and in New Berlin, Stark Co. Ohio 1843-1845. His Ohio coverlets include"Coverlet Weaver" in the corner block inscription. Antique Jacquard Woven Coverlet - Dated and Signed
This is an unusually beautiful Jacquard woven coverlet dated 1838 and signed John Smith- R. Stamest. The colors are a vibrant turkey red and strong medium blue color with a base of natural linen. The coverlet is made up of 2 pieces indicative of being woven on a smaller loom. It is finished with fringe on three sides and hand stitched on the top side. You will note that there is missing fringe but the woven edges retain their integrity. The motifs are charming and all reference nature. The border includes oak leaves. Daisies, and lily of the valley. The center includes a medallion made of various flowers, some flowers that resemble poinsiettas, perhaps some chestnut blossoms, and a snowflake type design that includes acorns.
