Lovely Long Length Of Antique/Vintage Whitework Embroidery 81" x 12" Length of Antique/Vintage Whitework Embroidery. A Lovely useful length of Fine Cotton covered with Whitework Embroidery. The Piece measures approx 81" Long x 12" deep. The Whitework Embroidery is just under 9" deep. This Piece was obviously the Hem of a Dress or Petticoat and has been cut off. The Piece is Nice and Strong and therefore could be used for a number of projects. It is Nice and White. There is a join at 43" which is just under/half of the Piece. The Whitework Embroidery itself is very detailed and the only damage that I can see is two tiny splits at the bottom pointed edge which will need a stitch. ANTIQUE VICTORIAN BELL / DAMPER PULL TAPESTRY NEEDLEPOINT & BEAD EMBROIDERY
Absolutely stunning antique Swedish embroidered bell pull dating back to the mid 19th century. This piece has gorgeous floral needlepoint embroidery in wool enriched with bead embroidered oak leaves( and edges. In Sweden these pulls were more commonly used as decorations on the pull chains of the damper. That are external on most Swedish fireplaces. The piece is in great used condition; the colours are quite clear and strong. There are only a few stitches, bearly noticable, and very few beads missing. In the upper part(between the rose and it's leaves, see picture) there is a small tear, or more precisely in the canvas but not in the embroidery. Edged with antique braid, lining is intact and the brass handle is beautifully ornate with grapes and vine leaves. Measures approx. 3.7" wide and 29" in length. A Fabulously Beautiful Antique Victorian Beadwork Embroidery-Angel and Child.
I can truly say that in my opinion this is one of the most beautiful Beadwork pieces that I have ever seen or sold. This is an Antique Victorian Beadwork Embroidery Shield Shaped Panel that dates I believe to around 1880. It depicts an Angel carrying a child on her back. The Beadwork is to the entire panel with only the brown areas being embroidered in wool. The Embroidery has been backed with brown silk. And has along the top edge a number of hooks. The Panel has some braid along the top edge which hangs down the sides-this needs re-attaching in places. The braid ends with two large Beadwork tassels on each side. Narrow book with paper pages(all intact) to separate the silks. It has inlays of delicate straw work in a variety of floral and other patterns. On one side it has the word"Union" This sounds like a political slogan and probably related to a cause of the day. The base of the sheath(under the straw) is made of several pages from an old accounting book. The months are in French. The interior silks book has diagonal straw work, a different color on each side. The natural vegetable dyed colors of the straw indicate it's an earlier piece. I cannot be certain of when this piece dates to as I have not come across this style of embroidery before. I would however think there is a certain amount of age to it. The material used is filled in completely with something similar to herringbone stitch embroidery. Which means this is a weighty piece of fabric. It is very cleverly worked, with the stitches flowing in varying directions to add texture and movement. The coloursof the yarns are stunning, cleverly blending and off setting each other in tones of mauves, greys, blues, white and browns. The way it is worked is almost like a piece that has been knitted in stocking ... morestitch. A little faded and with two holes to the middle left and one to the bottom left. Jarmany seems to be a Norfolk name and several Esther Jarmanys are recorded from this time. Antique Steel Embroidery Scissors with Decorative Brass Sheath. 4 5/8 inches long, unmarked, probably European, probably late 1800’s, the scissors are undecorated and the steel has discoloration from oxidation, one tip is slightly bent, the brass sheath is 2 ¼ inches long and has an embossed design, there is discoloration from oxidation but no cracks in the seams, beautiful design is on both sides, the sheath was a necessary item to keep one from poking oneself with sharp embroidery scissors, they often became lost, this is a very nice example of an early sewing tool even though it is on a very ordinary pair of scissors. There are also two areas of solid gold framing the carts and the Crane.There is a small red shoulder drum in the lower right corner. This panel is embroidered with gold metallic and colored silk threads on a silk ground. The ground of this panel. Depending on how the light strikes it, shows as a light purple or a deep maroon. A VERY BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE CHRISTENING GOWN IN MUSLIN WITH FLOWER EMBROIDERY Description. This is an exquisite little hand sewn christening or day dress of antique/early 20th century age and more unusually in fine muslin. I am not good at recognising the different laces but the top yoke of this one is embroidered with tiny flowers and sprigs. Whilst that of the band just below has punchwork and the embroidery is well raised. Similarly the bottom half of the dress has bands of tiny raised bands of flowers/punchwork. The deepest band having punchwork and embroidered small cartouche. The edge of the gown is finished with unusual castellated punchwork. The neck and sleeves are trimmed with lace and the back is also worked to match the front. Fastening is with two tiny buttons and a tie neck. I have carefully laundered the dress and can find no ... morewear other than a small flaw from one of the embroidered leaves on the top yoke. Satin, and velvet fabrics with glorious embroidery and fine patterns. There are some silk embroidered pieces with purple pansies. A large purple daisy, pink flowers, and tiny green clovers. Fancy turkey stitching. Zig zag, and star stitching through out the entire quilt. The border is a very pretty light olive satin. On the back is a silky cotton black floral ruffled pansy printed chintz fabric. There are a couple small velvet pieces. Hand bound and hand pieced together. Antique Quilt LOG CABIN Barn Raising Childs HAP c1880 Feather Stitch Embroidery
Lancaster Pennsylvania- c.1880's Childs Quilt An Early Log Cabin Barn Raising Hap Quilt Embroidered with Feather Stitching Overall Completly Handmade DESCRIPTION An outstanding example of a Late 19th or Early 20th Century Lancaster County Pennsylvania antique quilt. Completly handstitched there is no machine work anywhere on this beauty. The pattern is Log Cabin Barn Raising. A beautifully pieced pattern in white and pink with small center squares of burgundy velvet. All the fabrics are cotton. It is a HAP quilt, thickly batted and tied down at regular intervals with a rose colored floss to hold that heavy batting in place. It is a small quilt made for a child to keep warm at night. This charming antique quilt has the added opulent touch of pink hand embroidery'Turkey Track or Feather' stitching covering each and every'log' ... moreand also around the wide triangular shaped border decoration. An amazing quilt when you think about the amount of handwork. each piece was folded and stitched by hand and then each seam carefully covered with this delighful hand embroidery. Every line of embroidery skillfully and neatly worked. This is a real beauty. The reverse is also quite interesting. Done in the traditional pattern of BARS. The back of the quilt alternates between a plain white and an apricot background color with a printed pattern of dark flower pots and faint white vines or trees growing upward. This printed fabric on the reverse is quite faded and the'trees or vines' are difficult to see. Also, the mordant used to set the dye to print the tiny black flower pot designs had a great deal of iron in it causing the'pots' to wear away(deteriorate) here and there, a common occurence in early fabrics. No other loss of fabric anywhere on the quilt this only affects some of the black flower pots. The quilt is bound with the same apricot printed fabric and again. All turned and stitched by hand. I just discovered this friendship quilt at an estate sale in Northeast PA. When I first saw it across the room. I thought how well it displayed, how warm and coastal living the colors of blues and reds were and the true folkart quality of it with all the children's names. Measures 64 by 76 inches, perfect for a double bed and great overhang for a twin. Since I can't unfortunately sew a button, I would say it is machine stitched because the stitches are very even. The children's names are hand done in an embroidery style. Displays extremely well over a railing or hung on a wall. The boats remind one of the ocean and also of pond boats. I can not see any stains or tears. It is soft cotton muslin material and has been washed I believe. I think it is a wonderful example of the"Art Nouveau" style of crafts work. The embroidered flowers have so many pretty colors. Purple, lavender, gold periwinkle to name a few, on a cream silk. I have framed this with lavender silk and used a combination of two ribbons, one on top of the other, to add dimension to the framing. The pillow is outlined with a cording of matching greens that is from the Houles company in Paris. The back is a lavender silk that matches the lavender of the bell flowers in the embroidery. With some cutwork. Dated to about 1928. The single sheet is 81" wide and about 85" long. It has 1 cluster of stains and 3 other small spots. When sheet is folded it has very light brown fading to nothing from scallop down 12" and then right angles for about 5" It is so light I am not sure it will show on the pictures. No holes. One light stain and fraying/hole to one scallop. This is a great piece of linen. Not threadbare. The matching pillowcases/shams are 29" long and 24" wide. The bottom edge was sewn closed by hand. Beautiful stitching throughout. The scallopped ... moreedge continues around the whoe edge. And the embroidery also. One sham has 2 black dots. And a larger faded stain by the monogram. This sham also has 1" tear to a scallop under the monogram. The other sham has light washed out stains above the monogram. That is the only defect to this sham.
