It has never been cleaned, and I will leave that up to an expert. It has a few faint dusty marks and wrinkles from storage, but after a careful cleaning, it will be a museum quality item. You won't find many of these in this kind of perfect condition, pretty special for a silk shawl that is almost 100 years old! I was told these were made with the fabled forbidden'blind stitch' so named because the makers could go blind from doing too much of this fine close work. The fringe is pure creme colored. It appears to have dark areas in the photos. This is from the lighting, there is no darker color, just pure creme. All items I sell are guaranteed to be as described. You are bidding on a Hand embroidered antique Piano shawl. It is silk. The embroidery done in a rich color palette from subtle to vibrant tones. Roses are the main focus of this shawl. ANTIQUE/VINTAGE CHINESE SILK PIANO SHAWL
This piece is on a cream colored heavy weight silk background with all-over beautifully colored. Hand embroidery of large and small flowers.The embroidery almost covers the whole shawl. It has a 48" x 50" embroidery area with 20" knotted fringe all around. This was found packed away in a trunk that had been sitting for many years so we are not sure of the age. Maybe from the 1920’s– 30’s era. It is in fair condition with the embroidery still in a bright and colorful condition and all intact. The fringe is slightly tangled and there is a small approximate 1” area where the silk has been stitched up. It also has stains here and there which we have tried to show an example of in the one photo. It needs to be cleaned. However, we don’t know how you do that with silk so whoever gets this can do the cleaning. Questions answered.

Stunning Vintage Black Pure Silk Piano Shawl Embroidery Exotic Birds & Flowers !
This is a lovely vintage black pure silk piano shawl. It is beautifully& densely embroidered with flowers& exotic birds has a long(22 inches) heavy silk fringe including 5 inches of knotting. It most likely dates from the 50's or 60's. This is really bohemian chic! In the book Unpacking Culture. Author and assistant curator at the V&A Verity Wilson says of antique piano shawls that"they represent all that is fiery. Risqué, seductive and sensuous. Anything apart from the ordinary. She also claims that these shawls are imbued with"a mix of gypsy abandon and a promise of the east" The embroidered piece is one of the largest I have ever owned. It measures 57 inches x 54 inches it is clean with no tears or holes, this shawl is in excellent condition and the colours are stunning, an interesting mix of bright ... moreturquoise. Carmine, emerald green along with pastel rose blue. Mauve and leaf green. A lovely deco detail. Oh so elegant! or it could and should even be worn! Vintage Chinese piano shawl - black silk - pagodas, people,flowers - long fringe
This lovely decorative Chinese shawl is on black silk and is packed with figures. Pagodas, and flowers. The silk material itself measures approx. 105 cms square, and then in addition to this, the lacey border plus fringe is about 45cms long. This came from the same estate auction as most of my current textiles, and dates I think to around the 1920's. I cannot find any faults except that it seems to have been packed away for years and so there are light creases in places. Postage costs include insurance/tracking.

Vtg 20s-30s Sherbet ORANGE Solid SILK Fringed PIANO SHAWL 58" Square. Click on the pictures below. This auction is for a very nice antique vintage c.1920s-30s sherbet orange silk piano shawl with hand-knotted fringe. Great to drape over a piano or table. Throw across a sofa, hang across a window, or fold in half& wear around the shoulders or waist as shown. The solid silk body(not including fringe) measures about 38& 1/2" square, with rounded corners. The fine silk fringe adds another 19& 1/2" to each side, 58" square total. The fringe has a 3& 1/2"L fishnet lattice top as shown, strands are 16"L. I'd grade this lovely shawl as very good to excellent.I really can't find anything wrong with it. Measures just the black silk WITHOUT crocheted boarder and fringe 63" by 63" The crocheted boarder is 3 and 1/8th" and the fringe another 9" so from Fringe end to opposite Finge end it measures 87 and 3/8th" Square. I measured about 73" across including the knotted fringe and another 22" of tassle fringe. Look at the exquisite hand embroidery. This work of art took a lot of time and patience! Just alone hand knotting the 22" fringe. It is a masterpiece. It is so large that it was hard to get a good photograph. I layed it over my couch. The shawl does have a good amount of small holes on the outside black area. I took two photos of the main area of damage. I don't see any holes in the embroidered area and mostly the holes are small and do not show bad. The white on black embroidery steals the show. It is signed on the bottom corner. I'm not sure of its age but appears to be from the 1920's/30's. Could be older. It measures approximately 56 inches square and the fringe is another 18 inches long. It is in good condition with just one small tear/hole but it has several light spots all over but I have not tried to clean it. The design is embroidered in many colors of wool. It's in good shape considering its age. There's one small hole in the embroidered field and a few pinholes. There's also a tear on one edge and the short sides are frayed along the edge. The long sides are selvage and green in color. For your consideration is a lovely WWII-era Taj Mahal brocade piano scarf or shawl on a stunning tangerine orange background. The building and fountain colors are a lighter orange shade. A pale green and white/cream with the central panel having a striking midnight blue accent. A nice geometric design borders the interior architectural motifs creating a really fantastic visual appearance! Fringe on all sides in alternating tangerine and cream/white. Chinese ivory silk piano shawl, hand embroidered in a magenta silk thread, depicting a pagoda with two figures(with brighter pink silk thread faces) and chyrsanthemums on two corners on one side, and a bird and chyrsanthemum on the other two corners opposite. In doing so, it enables the user to decide what pattern they want to show on their back- the pagoda, or the bird. The shawl is trimmed in a long fringe made of a tiny ivory silk cord woven together by hand. The shawl dates to the late 19th, early 20th century, and was likely part of the Chinese export trade to Spain, and other parts of the world during that time. It is beautifully& densely embroidered with flowers& exotic birds has a long(24 inches) heavy silk fringe including 4 inches of knotting. It most likely dates from the 50's or 60's Perfect for a wedding o r a period reenactment. This is really bohemian chic! In the book Unpacking Culture. You are buying an antique Victorian large blue pure silk shawl with very long hand knotted fringing which graduates in colour from pale blue to darker teal blue at the ends. The 20" deep fringe is to all four sides. It is in excellent condition with the exception of a tiny pin prick hole only visible when held to the light and some light marks. It has not been washed or cleaned however so these marks may disappear after a specialst clean. This is a lovely antique Chinese Canton Export hand embroidered ivory coloured silk piano shawl stole made for the European market in the late 19th century. Gorgeous! An unusual& unique silk stole with a knotted tassel fringe on three sides and a beautiful aqua silk lining that can be folded over and worn as a contrasting collar. As seen in photos or not. Vintage Drawn Pulled Thread Fringe Coral Ladies or Piano Shawl 10 feet Long
For auction is a beautifully colored. Long shawl or table runner. It is a fairly dark coral color with a hand drawn or pulled thread and fringed border. I am not at all sure of the original purpose or of the fabric this is made of. If anyone has additional ideas, please let me know and I'll post them. The fabric is almost like a grosgrain ribbon, but softer. The pulled thread fringe is very long and quite amazing in detail. Where the pulled thread sections are, the shawl/runner tapers in, but can be pulled to the full width. The shawl or runner is a total of about ten feet long. The pulled thread portion is about 14 inches long on each end with a a fringe of about five inches long on each end. It is about 32 1/2 inches wide. The shawl/runner is in overall very good condition, but does has some small spots(1/8 inch or less) here and there ... morewhich are visible when you look closely. Nothing significant though. There is one spot where there are about five very small holes(again less than 1/8 inch) possibly from a brooch being pinned to it. These are only visible when held up to the light as shown in the ninth picture. It is really a beautiful textile, although I am not sure when it was made. Beautiful shawl off white. It seems to have been made by a skill embroidered and it is perhaps from the 1920's or 1930's I bought this in E bay a week ago and I am sad to sell it because it is larger than I expected. It measures 65" x 65" including the netting and the streamers are 15" in length. Which appear to be made of a silk/linen rather than the silky streamers that tangle so easily. It has gorgeous red Roses and some orange! This piano shawl would be also very attractive on a table or on a sofa It has a few stains hardly noticeable. The hand knotted fringe is all in good order. The embroidered motifs are stunningly lavish.
