BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE/VINTAGE ITALIAN WHITE LINEN RUNNER With CUTWORK. EMBROIDERY& POINT De VENISE LACE INSERTS Description: A beautiful Italian. Fine white linen runner with elaborate designs throughout. The runner has extensive cutwork. Filled with buttonhole stitched bridges/brides done in a white cotton thread. The cutwork is embellished with embroidery done in acanthus like sprigs executed in a heavy white cotton thread. On the ends and on either side of the middle are detailed Point de Venise lace inserts. Two with bouquets of flowers, the other two with a larger singular floral motif– some of which is executed in linen stitch, and accented in other more elaborate stitches. The outer edge is trimmed in a 1 ¼” filet lace around the hem. The linen itself is a finely woven. Very delicate white linen. Measurements: 17 ½” wide ... more52” long Condition: Very good condition. There are two tiny pinholes in the linen. Near one corner. They come from a smoke and pet free environment, and have been cleaned and pressed. Beautiful C1890-1900 Antique handmade off white linen banquet size tablecloth with handmade figural Point de Venise needlelace inserts. Along with some Italian whitework and drawn work. It measures 102" x 72" The very corners have lace inserts with a woman dancing. These measure 16" by 15 1/2" The top has two different figural inserts. 4 with a woman and child, and 4 with a woman. There is also many other connecting needlelace inserts. Overall the condition is very good. I notice a few small areas on the very edge lace with very light stains. I can't photograph these areas as they are too faint. You won't find them unless you look very closely. There are also many bridges in the lace and a few scattered ones are broken. The lace has lovely scrolling lines with infill varying patterns, flowers with further raised and applied flowers and petals and with padded outlining to much of the design; there are coils and leaves and picoted brides. Please see the photos. This charming lace has been cut into a wonderfully shaped collar. You can see from the photos that the collar is rough cut to the outer edge; that the collar does not have a perfect symmetry(cut to the lace at places- Please see the photos) However the lace could still be worn as a collar. Perhaps with a few embellishments or alterations. The motifs of the lace could be snipped and used for other projects, or more lace or bead work added to this piece for a sumptuous ... morelace collar. The lace has not been laundered. The lace is in good condition. It will need a launder. There are marks to the lace and as mentioned, the lace has been cut in areas- to the edges. This vintage ecru colored lace collar dates from the turn of the century or earlier. Appears to be needle Point De Venice floral pattern. With sculpt and padding, This is a treasure of late 19 th century fashionable lace accessory. The piece was worn as a neck adornment. The design is busy. But still is graceful. MEASUREMENT: 17-1/2" inside neck line edge. 10" deep at center. When laid flat. This pre-1900's lace collar measures 22" across at top, 23" at bottom and a bit over 23" top to bottom. Condition is very good. With old age oxidation storage stain as shown in photo, and this will come out with first washing. I do not see any broken brides. The collar has not been washed, and the material is strong, and the thread is moist and shows no dry rot. It has a beautiful fall and weight. It has lovely figural ladies, cherubs and urns of flowers in the design. It has been gently washed to remove any storage marks or odors and will come to you ready for use. I went over it carefully and found no gaping holes or broken brides and no food stains. It's a rare to see something like this in such good condition. This panel measures 53.5 inches in length x 63 inch in width. This Venetian Point de Venise type lace panel has what appears to be woven linen fabric. I have been informed by a nice ebayer who is an expert in textiles that this is machine made. I have not cleaned the fabric but there does not appear to be any issues. Please carefully view photos. Antique Italian Point de Venise Figural Filet Lace Long Table Runner 64" Truly magnificent antique handmade lace runner. Measuring a regal 64" long by 25" wide. This is one of the loveliest-and longest-old runners I've ever handled. Center is done in white linen studded with Italian Point de Venise lace and cutwork. It is surrounded with splendid Italian filet of lace rife with classical figures, flowers, bows etc. There are Cupid-like(putti) figures with hounds, a woman with a basket, a man with his dog. I'm afraid I can't quite identify all these figures but they are wonderfully done. Steller workmanship throughout. Center is snow white. Filet lace is more of a champagne tone. The filet lace is somewhat uneven in tone. More obvious in photo than in person. The woman who sold it to me laundered and pressed but ... moredid not soak and I believe that there's some age toning remaining. At one end of filet lace section there's a thin tannish streak that looks like a damp stain. Plus I found a couple tiny, tiny spots on the filet lace. This is an outstanding example of fine Italian linen cutwork and embroidery. The intricate scrollwork is stunning. The scalloped edges around the floral designs add another touch of elegance. This sheet has an expertly created angel in the pattern. Shown in the third picture It is considered"new old stock" It was purchased in a linen shop in Florence. Italy and was stored for decades. I believe it to be pre-1930's but since the store has been out of business for many years there is no way to verify this.
