Huge Antique 19th C Paisley Wool Shawl Throw Tablecloth,ink numbered, Persian?
I found this valuable hand woven fabric in a Swedish vintage store in Bulgaria. It is at least 19th century according to my knowledge and gut. It may be Persian. Very soft, may be wool or wool and silk. It has a number 16112 written with pretty digits with ink on a white cloth sewn onto one of the corners. Persian may be? Very large(will provide measurements later) with very rich colors and fabulous detail. At first one can not notice but when i looked carefully i found out there were quite a few holes at few areas. Some are more of a thinning of the fabric. I was not able to count them but later i can make an effort and ad up the info. The busy and colorful pattern makes them hard to see. The piece is in great used condition.I see perhaps 15 very minor spots from the dye that was used to color the paisley(pic. 8)These are quite minor and were done when the piece was made.Otherwise. I see no additional dye marks, stains, rips, tears, fading, signs of excessive use or abuse or damages of any kind on the piece. This shawl has a remarkably wonderful array of jewel like colors. Woven very beautifully in the kani, tapestry technique, then pieced together to form a gorgeous multi-color design. I found areas which were worn but not completely through. Some of those I pictured for you. It's very difficult to see unless you hold this piece up to the light. The shawl has a wonderful paisley pattern done in red. Green, and a beige or cream color. The greens are along the lines of a dark sage green shade and didn't pick up on the camera as well as I would have liked. The 6th pic shows them best. It's made from wool and is rather light weight. It measures about 67" x 66" As far as condition goes, there are about 20 holes; the largest one being about the size of a quarter. It's right in the middle. See pictures. Most of the other holes are very small, less than 1/4" or pin holes. There is also a split or tear close to the edge on one side. Look carefully at my photos. Otherwise, a fine example of an antique mid to late 1800's paisley shawl.

Green, brown, with 4 brighter flowers in the corners and a green center with what looks like wheat reaching into the center of the green. It has narrow strips of fabric missing on one edge, fringe loss, and small scattered holes(photos) one about the size of a dime, the rest smaller from eraser head down. Antique Paisley Woven Wool Shawl with a black center and paisley design. There is a colorful border of reds. Rust, blacks and golds. The fringe is very short and there are parts that are missing. There are about 25 small holes throughout. But most appear to be in clusters and cannot be seen when the shawl is folded. The shawl measures 66" square. I don't know much about shawls but I am trying to give an accurate description. I think the colors appear to be brighter in the pictures than the shawl actually is. WONDERFUL ANTIQUE CIVIL WAR ERA PAISLEY SHAWL. I always get so excited to find one of these treasures! This one came right out of an old trunk and is in decent condition. When I hold it to the light I notice several weakened spots where it might be considered thin but not torn all the way through. A few holes but nothing bigger then a pencil eraser. There are about 16 of those. Easily repairable if someone is handy with a needle. When you look at the shawl you don't notice much of the damage unless you really look for it. This is a gorgeous 19th century wool paisley shawl.beautiful woven reds with greens. Blues white and orange, and with the black background showing it off all the way through the design and one bigger black area in the center of one of the fringed ends. It measures 60” x 62” not including the black fringe at either end. This piece in my opinion, is in excellent condition for its age.after examining it closely I found one tiny hole which is barely ⅛” across.almost perfectly round and I’m thinking it was a burn hole rather than a moth hole. I could not see any other holes or tears. Also one of the fringed edges was not bound very securely and has gotten a bit skimpy, with some of the material edge starting to fray, though I would not regard it as too serious. And one corner of the piece somehow looks just a tad darker.it does not look like a ... morestain.though maybe from smoke? It is so faint I wasn't sure if I was seeing it right but I think it does show up slightly in the photos. It would not be noticed if one wasn't looking at it all over very carefully, for flaws. 18 E 19th C Fantastic Antique French Paisley Kashmir Jacquard Shawl Hand Woven
This listing is for an 18 th Century/ Early 19th C. Handwoven French Jacquard Shawl reminiscent of Early Paisley/ Kashmir/ Persian Shawls. It measures 62 1/2 inches by 62 1/2 inches. In what I consider excellent condition with minor damages as noted in the images. See the images of warp and weft together with an inch stick and make a count of warp and weft if you would like. It is so fine that it is even very hard to count the warp and wefts using the magnified images. I see the piece as a late 18th C. early 19th C. French Shawl. One cannot help to notice the resemblance of this shawl to a shawl worn by a lady in a documented early 19th Century French School Painting. Which would place this Shawl in Early 19th Century or Earlier. Look on the shawl on lower right side of the painting and see the striking resemblance. The stitching are smaller ... morethan the naked eye can see. It is an exceptionally early and fine example. In overall very good condition with very few weak spots and otherwise in need of attention. There is one professional repair to the field. The textile weighs an amazing 360 grams in weight. That is almost 10 grams per square feet. I have not examined the material but it probably is silk and kashmir/ Pashmina quality wool. The textile is so fine when folded. It will fit in your pocket. You can pull it through a ring's opening. Please examine all images. A high resolution copy of each image is available and will be emailed to you on request. Images. Even though o.k. do not really show the majesty of this fine weaving. This shawl has the center in a hard to find creamy beige, extremely fine quality and weave, I believe it is wool. The measurements are 69" X 64" not including the fringe. EXCELLENT CONDITION CASHMERE. RARE GORGEOUS LUMINESCENT 1840 SOFT KASHMIR PAISLEY SHAWL, HANDWOVEN IN INDIA This square paisley shawl was made around 1840 in Kashmir. India. This shawl in this clean, unfaded, near perfect condition is very rare. The shawl is very light and soft to the touch, made from the softest cashmere pashmina and silk. I cannot emphasize enough how lovely this shawl is; the cashmere used is a very high quality. It is a"turnover" shawl, in which the shawl borders are oriented so that when you fold it to a triangle, the borders match up perfectly. But when it is flat, two adjacent borders are right side up and the two others are not. Clever design for a perfect shawl. Not all shawls are equal! This shawl has a remarkably wonderful array of jewel like colors. Woven very beautifully in the kani, tapestry technique, ... morethen pieced together to form a gorgeous multi-color design. It has a beautiful fine fine weave, the soft texture from the lovely cashmere and silk blended yarn. The condition of this shawl is remarkable. The exquisite harmony of the design and fine weave of this shawl makes it unusually beautiful quality. The shawl was recently cleaned and unlike many shawls of this type does not have any condition issues. Except one or two early mends that are not seen when folded and not very visible when unfolded. It is very soft to the touch. The main design features lovely swirling vines with bud and plant designs in intertwining patterns. The border design flaunts beautiful color notes, with embroidered design. Note how lovely the close up photos show the wool and silk weave to be(7 on photos) It is very clean with gorgeous center, which continues into the border designs. The border areas have a lovely flowing paisley design in blue. Gold, two reds. Green. Fuchsia pink. Lavender, white, among other colors. The wool that was used is lovely. It was recently cleaned and has no smells and is very soft to the touch. There are no stains. Holes in the shawl. A few mends are quite invisible.
