EACH PIECE is then completely outlined in a variety of different types of hand done feather stitches. The edges are all bound in different pieces from the quilt and again each edge is outlined in different feather stitches. The back is a soft tan flannel material. The center of the quilt features a silk piece embroidered and dated 1909. Many many other pieces in the quilt are featured with different pictorial embroidered little pictures of animals such as dogs, horses, fish, rams, sheep cat, chickens(Roosters) bird,elephant, etc. Also featured in embroidery are children, a house, military drummer boy, flag, evergreen tree, anchor and flowers. One piece is very special. It is a silk woven menu from the historic Arcade Hotel in Springfield, Ohio. There are 6 pieces of silk that show freying-one is the 1909 silk in the center. Otherwise it is in very very good condition. This piece is quite heavy weighing over 5 pounds. That will give you an idea of the amount of fabric and embroidery that went into making this piece.I have never seen a piece with this amount of extensive decorative feather stich embroidery in all parts of the quilt. Truly a wonderful decorative piece to hang on a wall. Over 100 years old and a wonderful piece of artwork. It measures 69 inches by ... more69 inches. It has amazing handwork and embroidery throughout. The back is made of fabric with castle scenes on it. The back is folded over the front and sewn to make an edging. Overall it is in quite good condition for its age. I counted about 4 places on the quilt that had a small amount of wear or damage. I showed two of these areas in pictures 8 and 9. So this quilt is NOT IN PERFECT CONDITION and I am selling it in as is condition. The quilt is quite heavy weighing just under 5 pounds alone. I will always combine shipping whenever possible to make sure you spend the least amount. I use the least expensive way of shipping I can which is usually the slowest method. If you need the package sent more quickly please let me know so that I can calculate the cost and send you an updated bill. I add a 1.00 handling fee to cover shipping supplies. This sweetie measures approximately 15 inches tall by about 11 inches across at the widest bottom part. It is plumped with new premium fiberfil and the back is from the backing of this same crazy quilt. The backing is a deep wine colored fabric. I believe taffeta, but maybe a heavier silk.just not sure. What makes this fabric so interesting is that it has white raised intertwining circles which appear to be painted or stenciled. This kitty proudly showcases some large white pond lilies with their green lily pads. The embroidery is detailed and lovely.there are even some gold chenille worked stamens. Here For Auction from an Ohio Estate is an AMAZING. Beautifully Hand Crafted, Hand Embroidered, Crazy Quilt from the late 1890's to early 1900's. It's difficult to show all the incredible embrodery on this quilt as I'm limited to 12 photos. Red Velvet Border is stunning.the handwork is outstanding. For anyone who's a quilter this is To Die For. In my opinion ready to display or use! It is in great condition for its age as it was found in a Lane Cedar Chest with no mothing or rips where it has been for years! There is a small separation on on of the blue squares which could be repaired. This is a Sampler CRAZY QUILT that has been signed and dated by many different ladies. The quilt displays their workmanship and embroidery skills. Entirely HAND MADE. There are multiple choices of embroidery holding the pieces together- its not just one stitch style. Please look at the edges of the pieces. There are a variety of fabrics used also- silk. Velvet etc. I've included pictures of some to the pieces where the fabric is fraying- probably more from the choice of material than through usage. Very talented needlework. There is a Victorian girl holding a wooden bucket, a Victorian boy blowing bubbles, a child wearing a bonnet, a boy fishing, flowers, water lily, wreaths, acorn& leaves, lace up boots, a crown, Parasol, heart with an arrow through it, a wheelbarrow, pitcher& basin, plus animals such as a mouse, a dove, monkey, ... morefox, dog, owl. This quilt is in VERY nice condition for it's age! It must have been stored very well for years because it shows only minor signs of wear- and those signs are all on the reverse of the blanket. Some sun damage(faded lines where it was folded) and a couple of minors stain is most of the evident wear. The front is immaculate- no staining. No rips and no tears/holes. Really in GREAT shape- heirloom worthy piece! The colors of the piece are vibrant- there are lots of bright velvets and some satin. Plenty of fancy stitching. There is written"1893" in stitching on one little panel. Plenty of names of people who contributed to the quilt. I was able to find a reference online to a Henry Church who had 2 clothing stores in Connecticut in 1894(apparently he had been in business several years prior) The piece of fabric incorporated in the quilt is probably the back inside of a older Henry Church dress where the brand name would be located. (6)Large 20" 7-Point STAR Pieces for QUILTS~Patchwork~Crazy Quilt Style~FEEDSACK
This comes out of a Century Home Estate Auction. Each 7 point star has a maximum diameter of 19 1/2" and there are at least 25-35 different fabrics that were used to produce each star. I believe that many of the pieces are from old Feedsacks. Every available scrap that the quilter had available to her was obviously incorporated into the construction of these stars. They are machine sewn and upon careful scrutiny of the back of each star. I found tiny bits and pieces of newspaper that she would have used to make her templates/pattern. Unfortunately none of the scraps of paper had dates on them from which would have helped me accurately determine the date the quilter had pieced these together, judging from most of the fabric I'm dating this between 1930s to 1940s. It is made of silk. Brocade and velvet squares with heavy embroidery and appliques including Kate Greenway figures, swan, crosses, flowers, dogs and many others wonderful figures. It is a friendship quilt made by a circle of friends who have initialled and signed many of their quilt squares. Some of the signatures are dated 1898. Each quilt square is made of tiny shapes ... moreof materials sewn together into a bigger square. The quilt measures 60" x 60" It is a beautifully made quilt rich in colors and shapes. It is over a 100 years old and is not in good condition but quite worn in places. Silk fabric does not age well and some of the silk squares show fabric loss and splits. There are some stains on some of the squares. There are about 17 squares that show silk splitting or damage. The edge stitching is very worn in places and gone in others.The back of the quilt is is worn through in several places showing the batting. I have tried to photograph these areas of wear. A couple of the appliques are gone showing an outline of the figures on the material. I was told by a quilter that a lot of the damage could be repaired or replaced or that many of the squares could be used in another quilt. 1800's CRAZY QUILT TOP MUSEUM QUALITY EXTENSIVE DETAIL 82" X 84"
This is one of the most amazing examples of late 1800's Crazy Quilt work pieces I have ever seen. A quilt top- no backing. Silk& Velvet patches- all attached with hand feather work. There is so much detail of embroidery which includes people. Animals, flowers, veg's. Fruit, fans etc. A couple hand painted. I have tried to show many in the pics. Every time I look at it I see a different theme to the little blocks- Breath Taking! This is truly a one of a kind. The condition is incredible for the age- there is some splitting to some of the silk patches- not many- I w ill say it is 90% or better condition. Fabulous antique Crazy Quilt dated 1894. It remains in great condition. I only notice two spots were the fabric has seperated. A easy repair. This is NOT a cutter by any means. Comes from a very high end estate, the lady collected quilts and had each one wrapped in tissue paper in her linen closet. This quilt is a beauty, heavily embroidered all over. Pennsylvania estate find, this is a vintage 1926 hand crafted four block crazy quilt that measures 71" by 75" In excellent aged condition, I found no tears or broken stitching(see my last pic for the single hole present) The time and workmanship that went into the making of this impressive quilt is beyond my imagination. From the feel of the quilt, it has a batting material between the front and back surfaces. The materials in the quilt appear to be various cottons and wools. They are made of vintage fabric, from old clothes, suits, dresses, shirts, and feedsack prints and solids, made in a time when we were not a"throw-away" society. The quilts had been well-used by the owners and were dirty and odorous, and obviously had been stored for many years. The QUILTS have all been laundered and clothesline-dried. They smell fresh now. And I have a smoke free home. The condition of each varies, but considering these were used everyday they show signs of wear: tears, shredding of squares, stains, and batting coming out of holes. This is a wonderful piece of American art which should be priced over $1.000. It is an antique crazy quilt, which incorporates fan and star patterns, done primarily with satin? or silk? and velvet fabrics and with extensive embroidery. For the last 40 years, at least, it has been in a smoke free and pet free home. It measures 69" X 79" and is in very good vintage condition. There is one edge of the bright blue background which has slightly faded(pic# 7) and there are a small number of pieces in the star design where the fabric has deteriorated. Offered is a set of three(3) heart hangers I've made from a beautiful 1880s crazy quilt. I've chosen some beautiful hand painted and whimsical hand embroidered scenes with a"summer" feel to them. Each heart measures approximately 8 inches wide by about 7 inches tall. And has a black satin ribbon hanger.they are each firmly plumped with new premium filberfil. The backs of the hearts are from the same crazy quilt, and just as beautiful! There are two(2) hearts that have exceptional and detailed hand painting.these ladies that lived over 130 years ago were so very talented! To the heart with the detailed hand painted heron I've tacked on a hang tag that reads"Summertime and the Livin' is Easy" This can easily be snipped off if it is not to your liking. To the other heart with the exquisite hand painted water ... morelily. I've added a vintage little turtle pin. He is sitting on a lily pad, also hand painted, and slowly making his way to the flower! This turtle has a light brown enameled textured shell and sparkly green rhinestone eyes. His head, feet, and tail are a gold tone metal. This darling pin measures about 1.5 inches by 1 inch, and is not signed. If you'd like to set the turtle free, you can remove it and wear it yourself, or give as a gift! The third heart is the detailed hand embroidered froggie on the lily pad with another frog jumping into the pond.so cute! These three hearts will surely make you smile and think of summer! VINTAGE Textile patchwork Silk& Satin Quilt Measures approx.73” x 85” Each square started as 12" but is now 11 1/2" Some top hand embroidery(feather stitch) but not as much as a true crazy quilt.Wonderful vivid colors. This came straight from an estate sale so I have not washed or ironed this piece especially since it is mostly made of silks& satin. Many vintage pieces of satin. And other fancy silks that were so popular in the late Victorian era have been treasured and preserved. Many of the silk fabrics used in quilts are weighted with mineral salts and other substances. This means the fabrics have been coated with, or have actually absorbed, these substances to give them more weight and a stiffer texture. Unfortunately, weighting substances also speed up the fabric's deterioration. Silk is extremely susceptible to ... morelight damage. Which can be seen in brittleness, splits, and the eventual powdering of the yarns. Sometimes, even though a piece of silk may appear in perfect condition, it can be extremely fragile. Dust and dirt can do a great deal of harm to silk quilts, as can wet cleaning and dry cleaning. Vintage wovan tobacco/cigarette silk on white mesh/netting- yellow flower. These were made c1932 in Germany. You can see through the mesh/netting on the background.
