I believe it is French in origin was most likely produced by Neyret Freres. This item is from a estate. It had been professionally matted and framed under glass. The frame is 19" x 14" The actual silk work is 11 1/2" x 7 1/2" I did lighten the photos to show more detail. Hard to get a good photo of the actual look of the silk. My photos of it do not do it justice. In real life the silk is bright and has shimmer, the coloring of the silk changes according to the light and the angle of the picture when looking at it. It is a good width measuring 11.2 ins(28.5cm) wide and a super length of 69.3 ins(176cm) Each end is angled as can be seen but the length measurement given excludes the'points' so covers the usable full width area. 1880s French Velvet Tapestry/Curtain Handworked Birds, flowers, INCREDIBLE!
This is such a beautiful piece to display on your wall. Over a bed, or even as a single curtain. It is in exceptional condition. The person I purchased it from claimed it dates around 1880s. It is French in origin. The velvet is a deep, dark, burgundy(colors most like lighter images) and the piece has three handworked tapestry pieces depicting in great detail an amazing array of birds, flowers. Leaves, etc. Each section has a variety of different stitches with some metallic threads to add depth/detail in the patterns. It is quite simply. One of the most beautiful pieces of antique textiles I have ever seen! Back is lined with light golden silk. I find very few defects other than a minor spot here and there on the back lining and a few tiny holes. On front there is a small separation between the velvet and a tapestry piece(see second to last ... moreimage for close up detail) The piece is quite heavy and substantial. This is all the knowledge I could get on this piece in months of research. For all those who know tapestry you be the judge. It is just as I described and same pictures I sent to the one place I could get that knew anything of it. The velvet on the front is worn off in different spots but the weave still shows through. Color and all. I personally believe by age and the strings is was hand woven but in no way could state that as a fact. The tapestry is all hand embroidered with two women standing at an organ. The woman on the left is playing and the other is pumping the bellows for the organ. All behind them is a floral pattern that changes color and has a similar pattern that they are standing on. Around the embroidery is tufted fabric in a beige color. That may also explain the excellent condition. It depicts a gentleman with a walking stick courting a young woman holding flowers. The face. Hands and arms and some of the clothing as well as the plants and planters are done in petitpoint while the rest is done in gros point. Notice the detail in the faces. This lovely romantic hand stitched needlepoint is silk and wool. It measures 12” x 15.5” and is in excellent condition as I mentioned. There are no missing stitches, stains, smells etc. The colors are soft muted colors of gold, camamel, camel, pale blue, gray, black, cream and rust. Around the needlepoint I used an antique French metallic trim(NOS) The fabric I used ... moreon the face of the pillow is cotton and silk gold velvet with a slight sheen. The back of the pillow is done in chenille. This one of a kind pillow is finished off with a cream and camel pom-pom trim. DRAMATIC 19TH C FRENCH NEEDLEPOINT PILLOW w GOLD VESTMENT TRIM You are looking at a 19th century French hand made wool needlepoint that has been turned into a 21st century pillow. This needlepoint looked nothing like this before it was cleaned. I was shocked at the results but in the before photo which I saved for last you can see it’s age better. The needlepoint is now in excellent condition and measures 18.5” x 18.5” It depicts a bouquet of flowers in a cartouche. The colors are vivid: gold. Cream, olive, tan, muted pink, muted lavender and burgundy. Around the needlepoint I used a 1.5” antique gold vestment trim. The fabric on the face of the pillow is burgundy cotton and silk velvet which has a little bit of a sheen while the back is done in gold cotton damask. This gorgeous pillow is finished off with a luxurious gold and burgundy big ... morebobble trim which has a clear crystal like bead at the top. AUTHENTIC ANTIQUE 18/19TH C FRENCH AUBUSSON TAPESTRY PILLOW~RARE SUBJECT Presented before you is an authentic 18/19th century Aubusson wool and silk handwoven tapestry made into a 21st century pillow. The Aubusson depicts a striped cat and a stork within a pretty cartouche of flowers and acanthus leaves. The Aubusson has some areas of wear(very common with a piece this old) which I have pretty much repaired. The back is completely reinforced to prevent further damage. Please note the photo I took of the back was taken before I reinforced it with backing. The colors are brown. Green, beige, rust, gold, gray and many more earth tones. The tapestry measures 22” wide by 21” long. Around the Aubusson there is a pale gold and beige silky tassel trim which I also used around the pillow. Offered for auction today. Is this wonderful vintage tapestry 4 section table center piece. Not sure of the exact age but I would guess mid-century. The piece consists of 4 sections, all with the same French court scene with a gold velvet center piece and heavy gold brocade trim. The backing is gold wool felt. Measures 24" across both ways. Condition: Several small holes in the felt on the backside, the brocade trim is lightly soiled/dusty, otherwise, excellent. A very pretty and unusual piece for your table or project.
