I decided it was time to have a major clear out of my studio to make way for new treasures. The new year has begun well– I was offered the fabulous contents of a Victorian linen cupboard and family collection of lace from a local estate, and I have just returned from a wonderful antique textile auction in SW England. My lovely tidy studio is now bulging at the seams again! I am listing some new treasures this week– lace, shawls, Edwardian and Victorian costume etc. Happy browsing! Found in the linen cupboard. In a large box marked"wedding lace" I found several large lengths or flounces of the most ... moreexquisite Victorian hand made and hand embroidered lace. I am listing several this week. This is a wonderful, hand embroidered applique tambour lace, with stunning scrolling floral motifs. The length measures 272cm x 60cm, and is in excellent condition. I have carefully laundered the lace, so this is now snowy white, with no marks or stains. The only damage I can find are a couple of tiny darns to the backing net(shown in the last two photographs) the length is simply superb. The matching cuffs measure 42cm x 18cm(they still have the joining seam in place) Perfect if you are making a wedding dress- or for any special couture project. Just stunning. More photographs below. VINTAGE ANTIQUE TAMBOUR NEEDLE RUN EMBROIDERY ON NET LACE SHAWL VEIL MANTILLA
Offered for auction today. Is this gorgeous antique lace veil, shawl, or mantilla. It appears to be a needle run embroidery on net type of lace, perhaps Tambour or Honiton. Not sure as this is not my area of expertise. It is a beautiful quality piece measuring about 89" long x 25" wide with a 9 1/2" opening slit halfway down. For the neck perhaps? I estimate that it dates from the late 1800's to early 1900's. The color is ecru or a light tea stained hue likely due to being in storage for many years. The condition is excellent except for several small stains, one larger and one very small. These could likely be removed with proper laundering. I will leave that up to you. I purchased this along with many other fine laces and textiles that I will be listing on ebay this week, all from the same estate. This is a huge and entirely handmade antique lace wedding or bridal handkerchief circa 1830's. A piece like this does not come on the open market for sale very often. It's outstanding and breathtaking. Workmanship is superb and there were an untold mind boggling amount of hours of involved in making this beauty of a piece. Which is apparent by the level of detail and hand craftsmanship evident in the work. The extremely fine linen ground is nearly transluscent. The embroidered detail is very fine and realistic vining flowers and leaves. Tiny stitches densely packed. There are the tiniest needlelace filling stitches in the cutwork voids around the edge added for decorative detail. ... moreThe lace flounce surrounding the embroidered edging is handmade square mesh Valenciennes bobbin lace. This is a true heirloom museum quality piece. Condition is astounding given the age. No holes or tears, lace appears perfect, there is a slight overall patina and some light faint tanning barely detectable on the embroidery, one small faint shadow in the ground that just barely shows as you view it. ANTIQUE TAMOUR LACE CURTAINS - 120" LONG - 2 PANELS
Beautiful pair of antique lace curtains. Length measures 120" long. There are two panels. Each is 54" wide, for a total width of 108" Rare to find in such lovely condition. There is a 20" long self-valance. The valance is part of the curtain, doubled over at the top, with a rod pocket. The embroidery is heavy and ornate. There is no evidence of damage. I do see a few very small areas, where the netting was pulling away from the emroidery and was finely stitched. These few areas were barely visible and one can see where a few stitches were added for reinforcfement. Not bigger than 1/4" and not picked up by the camera. I have not laundered these. There are no stains, some slight yellowing from storage, around some of the edges. Again, nothing to deter from the beauty. They are a work of art. Offered for auction. Is this gorgeous cutwork lace tablecloth topper. Made of ecru colored linen with gray edging. Measures 30" x 32" Condition is excellent, with just one very tiny(see pictures) spot that likely occurred during storage. You may often find cutwork cloths, but very rarely do you find one of this quality. The design is just lovely and would look good in any decor. This is an exquisite Victorian Handmade Bed Coverlet. The crochet work has very tiny tight stitches. It has wide insert handmade crochet lace. And narrow crochet lace edging. The two end corners are cut to fit around a four poster bed. The heading has a wide hem and also inset crochet lace. It measures 82" x 89" It is in very good condition. Clean, no odors. I saw one tiny dot stain on the underside. It is made of 100% cotton. This may date to the 1800's or early 1900s. Victorian era. Very well cared for. GORGEOUS NET LACE COVERLET AND PILLOW COVER This is for a pillow cover and matching coverlet. Its got gorgeous appliques all over it on top of fabulous net lace. There is one small repair at the bottom where the piece hangs down. Its about 2.5" long, I am not sure if thats the part that hangs at the end of the bed or if it goes under the pillow. There are a couple of other very tiny holes, I show one in photo#5, there is also another small hole about.5" in width. Overall in pretty good condition minus the repair. It could probably use a good soaking, no major stains that I could see. Selling as is. This is an antique lace tambour bedspread. It has beautiful details and design. It measures 96" long plus center piece of 10" Width is 50" plus 15" on each side. It is in good condition except there are some stains as I have shown in the next to last picture and there is a small hole on the side as i have shown in the picture with the green border around it. You are buying an antique creamy white cotton petticoat or skirt flounce trimmed with two layers of Valenciennes lace. The lace also has a trim of blue narrow satin ribbon threaded through. This is identical to the veil that I also have listed so maybe from the same Wedding outfit. This flounce however has been used and I have washed it so it is a different colour to the veil. The blue satin ribbon has also faded from it's originally colour. The flounce is 96" wide at the top and the circumference at the hem is 224" so will make a very wide frilled petticoat or skirt! It is 33" deep. It has been removed from a garment so not in perfect condition and I wonder if it has been in a collection at some time as some stabilising of the net at the top edge has been made and a collection tag(in red) added to the edge.
