Measures 50 inches square, not counting silk chainette fringe, which is a luxurious 19 inches long. ... moreSILK material is sturdy, like new from careful storage in acid free tissue in a cedar chest. It has never been cleaned, and I will leave that up to an expert. It has a few faint dusty marks and wrinkles from storage, but after a careful cleaning, it will be a museum quality item. You won't find many of these in this kind of perfect condition, pretty special for a silk shawl that is almost 100 years old! I was told these were made with the fabled forbidden'blind stitch' so named because the makers could go blind from doing too much of this fine close work. The fringe is pure creme colored. It appears to have dark areas in the photos. This is from the lighting, there is no darker color, just pure creme. All items I sell are guaranteed to be as described. You are bidding on a Hand embroidered antique Piano shawl. It is silk. The embroidery done in a rich color palette from subtle to vibrant tones. Roses are the main focus of this shawl. ANTIQUE/VINTAGE CHINESE SILK PIANO SHAWL
This piece is on a cream colored heavy weight silk background with all-over beautifully colored. Hand embroidery of large and small flowers.The embroidery almost covers the whole shawl. It has a 48" x 50" embroidery area with 20" knotted fringe all around. This was found packed away in a trunk that had been sitting for many years so we are not sure of the age. Maybe from the 1920’s– 30’s era. It is in fair condition with the embroidery still in a bright and colorful condition and all intact. The fringe is slightly tangled and there is a small approximate 1” area where the silk has been stitched up. It also has stains here and there which we have tried to show an example of in the one photo. It needs to be cleaned. However, we don’t know how you do that with silk so whoever gets this can do the cleaning. Questions answered.

The new year began well– I was offered the fabulous contents of a Victorian linen cupboard and a family collection of lace from a local estate. I also acquired lots of new stock from two wonderful antique textile auctions- one in SW England and another in Yorkshire. Not all shawls are equal-this one is totally unique and divine. With a rare design and calligraphic effect in outstanding condition! This shawl has a wonderful array of jewel like colors, woven very beautifully. Many of the square shawls of this era are faded and dirty, but this one is great with excellent clean condition, bright saturated colors and beautiful weave. EXQUISITE OLD SILK SHAWL Found in a local house estate is this beautiful old silk embroidered shawl. All I can say is"WOW" It is very large with a long fringe. I measured about 73" across including the knotted fringe and another 22" of tassle fringe. Look at the exquisite hand embroidery. This work of art took a lot of time and patience! Just alone hand knotting the 22" fringe. It is a masterpiece. It is so large that it was hard to get a good photograph. I layed it over my couch. The shawl does have a good amount of small holes on the outside black area. I took two photos of the main area of damage. I don't see any holes in the embroidered area and mostly the holes are small and do not show bad. The white on black embroidery steals the show. It is signed on the bottom corner. You are buying an antique Victorian large blue pure silk shawl with very long hand knotted fringing which graduates in colour from pale blue to darker teal blue at the ends. The 20" deep fringe is to all four sides. It is in excellent condition with the exception of a tiny pin prick hole only visible when held to the light and some light marks. It has not been washed or cleaned however so these marks may disappear after a specialst clean. It measures 65" x 65" including the netting and the streamers are 15" in length. Which appear to be made of a silk/linen rather than the silky streamers that tangle so easily. It measures about 67" x 66" As far as condition goes, there are about 20 holes; the largest one being about the size of a quarter. It's right in the middle. See pictures. Most of the other holes are very small, less than 1/4" or pin holes. There is also a split or tear close to the edge on one side. Look carefully at my photos. Otherwise, a fine example of an antique mid to late 1800's paisley shawl.

This was once an extremely pretty dark orange coloured Chinese silk piano shawl covered with a lovely hand embroidered floral design. Sadly it had several storage marks and I foolishly laundered it. I'm afraid it now needs to be dyed. Perhaps a deep red or black as I do believe it is worth restoring if someone has the time and patience. It measures approx. 61" by 58" plus approx. 13" of hand knotted fringe. The embroidery is in excellent condition as is the fringe although I did notice two very small holes hidden within the embroidered flowers. Both near corners. It is a 19th century piece and I believe that it is Cantonese. It measures 118 cm along each edge and the fringe is 50 cm deep. It is in good condition, I have untangled and ironed the fringe(not a small job) and there are not any holes or tears. There are some marks mostly little light brown flecks as can be seen in the fourth photograph(this photograph has been enhanced to show the marks up to the maximum) they are small and rather like foxing in an old book. There are also one or two vague grease stains. I have not had this shawl professionally cleaned, it has just been gently hand washed. Basically, it is a very beautiful piece; the colours are so delicate and pretty and the feel ... moreand movement of the silk is delightful. It certainly evokes a past age of elegant dress. This is a valuable piece and should reach a good price in auction; however, I have started the bidding at 99p so there is potentially a fantastic bargain to be won. This is a really gorgeous antique Regency or early Victorian embroidered ivory coloured silk shawl in the form of a stole or fichu. It is much more original than the piano shawls I ususally have. I believe it is French or English and perhaps embroidered in a convent. Please study the patterns. They are quite unusual. Though the shawl is in wearable condition there are some tiny tears where it has been folded and along the turned in seem. Nothing serious and totally mendable. I would date this shawl to the end of the Qing Dynasty 1920's.It is made of light turqoise colored silk and has beautiful hand embroidery featuring a pigeon surrounded by flowers. Here for your grand pleasure is an antique paisley shawl which measures 136" by 65.5" wide. This is a fine piece but not for the purist. And of course the price reflects this. It is an outstandingly beautiful old piece that affords THE LOOK without the investment. It is has defects. The most noticeable being the opening on the side. The last two photos show a proposed repair. Iron-on black gauze? Another tear has similar repair possibilities in that no parts are missing. There are other pin holes and the fringe is not 100% I purchased this at an impressive estate sale in Greenwich, Ct. back in about 1992, fresh from the trunk where I am sure it resided for years. I planned it as a tablecloth.just never had the occasion. I do not have information as to the age or origin of this piece. Up for sale is this beautiful antique piano shawl. It is Manton De Manila hand embroidered silk. The colors are stunning and the pattern is the same on both sides. The fringe is hand knotted and there is 18" of fringe. 5" is a hand knotted pattern and 13" is loose fringe. It is ivory silk and is in very good condition with only 1 small tear and a small stain in a corner. It comes from a wealthy Conn. family estate. It measures 84" square including fringe. This is one of TWO antique Mexican piano shawls I have had available this week(one was just"won" by an eBayer a few days ago) And when I do happen to acquire them at estate sales, they are usually snatched up before they even get on eBay! The fabulous thing about this work of art is that it is so multi-functional: tablecloth, large shawl, bed cover.but recently my stylist friends have told me customers are having them framed behind glass to serve as large works of art in their entry halls or above their beds. THIS PARTICULAR one is a bone color, with large vivid cabbage rose flowers, vines and small purple and orange flowers. Antique SILK PIANO SHAWL Scarf Fringed Embroidered Black
This is an amazing Piano Shawl/Scarf. I'm not an expert in such items but I've done considerable research and this appears to be Canton from the 1920s. Deep Black silk embroidered with Red Roses. And lots of colorful flowers and leaves. Has a 4-1/2 in. hand tied border with fringe that is another 16 in. long. The reverse is nearly as gorgeous as the front, as you can see in the picture with my hand turning it. There are a few broken threads(see close-up picture) very inconspicuous. There is a section of the hand tied border that needs a fix, and seems an easy repair for someone that sews- there is a picture of that, too. A great find. It's utterly beautiful.
