This is an insertion lace, meaning that both ... moreedges of the lace are straight and it was meant to be butted up against another piece of fabric or lace. On the edge of the lace(either side) there are tiny threads that can be pulled, when done, this lace can be shaped into ovals, circles, a scalloped hemline or even gathered into a ruffle. This lace has a pretty and delicate pattern, it measures 1/2" wide. When I was ironing this lace, I had sprayed starch on it and when it was damp, it touched another piece of pink fabric. There several spots of pink on this lace. I counted 3 areas of light pink and I've taken a photo of it, so you can assess the damage for yourself. It might wash out, but it might not, that being said there is still plenty of good usable lace here, as there is a total of 11-5/8 un-cut YARDS.that's a lot of lace for your sewing and crafting needs. Over the years this lace has softened to a soft, light beige. This old lace is well over 100 years old and to find this much un-cut yardage is hard to come by. Be sure to view my other lace auctions. Looks like it was removed from a pc of clothing for re-use. Both ends have a rolled hem. It is darker than appears in the photos, somewhat yellowed with age but appears in great condition. Here we have an absolutely gorgeous Antique trim dating from the early 1900's probably around the 20's or 30's. It measures a wonderful 2" wide! A substantial metallic trim with a double row of a golden bronze metallic with we believe a silk floss. Intertwined through out in a most gorgeous rose pink, in a truly lovely pattern. For color comparison. The lady has a soft ballet pink dress, the roses in her hair are a wee darker, the floss a medium pink. In this auction I have a fabulous Old Cotton lace edging which is old ecru/ natural in colour. The piece is 8 metres long and is an old traditional cluny design. It is made with quality Heavy gauge cotton. This lace is 3/4" of an inch wide with One bottom scalloped edge and a top straight sewing edge. We as a family are' Very' proud to be the makers of the lace on Kate Middletons- The Duchess of Cornwalls. Royal Wedding Dress and underskirt. We also made the Trims that were on the Bridesmaids dresses on the collar,cuffs and around the bottom of the beautifully made little dresses. We are a small family run firm which has been making beautiful British laces for over 200 years and are still using the same machines and techniques used all those years ago. These lace and all my laces are very'vintage' in style.They are made ... moreon these old machines and it is the closest you will ever get to handmade cotton lace- made in such a way as to simulate the old fashioned handmade lace. You can see if you look closely in the picture the lace is not completely'flat' as the pattern. In this case, the flower, it is outlined on the surface of the lace. This is the same in all my laces. So, there are two sides to all my laces with the'outlined' side always being sewn uppermost on the object or garment. We are very proud of the laces we still make today and I don't think you will find any better cotton laces in the world. that this lace is NOT flimsy nylon but best quality cotton. Two pieces of very decorative lace trim 4cm deep with both edges bounded with a ladder stitch. Each measures 45cm in length. Up for auction are two vintage tablecloths from the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Beautiful hand embroidered designs and crochet lace through the center and down the sides. This white cotton tablecloth measures approximately 70" x 48" I see no stains. Tears or holes, picture 5 shows a loose thread. It is fresh, clean and ready for your table. Ideal for Easter with its beautiful pinks and greens! Pictures 1 through 5. Picture two shows corners, pictures three and four shows sides and picture five closeup showing colors. The second tablecloth(pictures six through nine) is a highly embellished cream color table covering which also features hand embroidered designs and crochet lace through the center and down the sides. A fabulous selection of vintage French lace trimmings. There are twenty delightful pieces in this lovely mixed lot. In varied lengths. from 2.8 metres of floral petticoat tulle to a 10cm piece of delicious broderie anglais.and all lengths. Depths and patterns in between. there is a total of 16 metres of lacy gorgeousness! ALSO in the bag are a couple of lengths of woven ribbon.total 1.8 metres. This incredibly delicate crochet lace trim is 5cm deep and has two braided edges. It would appear to be hand made(from linen? as there are some characteristic irregularities in the woven stitching that forms the infill areas. It measures 240cm in length and is in good condition. antique vintage white hand embroidered tulle lace trim from THE1900's!!!
Over the next couple of weeks I will be listing loads of lace items. All were given to me 40 years ago by a 90 year old woman. Who has worked as a seamstress in London from the age of 10 years old! so the pieces I have are from about 1886 onwards. Nonw of the lace[this piece or any I will be offering] has a musty smell, but it does need washing to remove yellowing from age. I used many of the pieces I had in dressing antique dolls that I had either collected or reproduced myself. Unfortunately my hands and eyes don't enjoy doing such fine work anymore. So it's time to stop hoarding! As I am not a lace'buff' I will try to do my best in naming them. But could very well get it wrong. I much prefer to let the pictures speak for themselves. When I know a piece has faults I will mention them as well as showing them in the pictures. ... moreI am pretty sure this piece of hand embroidered tulle lace trim dates to 1900. This is so delicate.I think the tulle MIGHT be silk but not sure. The hand embroidery is done in cotton. I did not find any faults in this piece which measures 48 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide. VERY LONG, FINE Antique /Vintage Italian Tablecloth with Woven 6" Deep Lace Trim
VERY LONG ANTIQUE/ VINTAGE ITALIAN LINEN TABLECLOTH WITH 6" DEEP LACE TRIM DESCRIPTION: A lovely antique/ vintage linen tablecloth with a 6" deep woven lace trim. The tablecloth is made primarily of a very finely woven. Pale ecru-colored linen. It is embellished with hand embroidery and very small cutwork squares filled with tiny decorative stitches. The cutwork decoration is primarily made of buttonhole stitches. The embroidery is done in a highly raised, curved style, executed in a very light taupe cotton thread. The elaborate, wide lace is highly detailed, and is formed from tightly woven threads, like a linen stitch. The tablecloth was part of a trousseau given to a woman by her Italian mother, who had brought it back from Italy for her prior to her wedding- the mother is now in a nursing home, and the daughter was thinning ... moredown herself, having moved into smaller housing. MEASUREMENTS: 64" wide. 117" long CONDITION: Very good to excellent condition. It needs a cleaning. As its been in storage for some time.
