The mother of pearl is very luminous. The condition is excellent with no chips. Cracks or other damage. It has a red ribbon cushion(intact and original) and is stuffed with emery powder. It measures 7/8" in diameter. Nerylla Taunton shows similar ones on p. 138 of her book Antique Needlework Tools. It would have been part of a workbox set of sewing tools. Emeries were used to sharpen and polish the steel needles of the age. Emery powder is a fine grit and the needles were pushed in and out the cushion several times. It also removed rust. For sale is a fantastic set of 3 mahogany dining room chairs. I think they date to the 1920s-1930s. The condition is very good with minor scratches. Super sturdy and nice original finish. Has a beautiful carved back with open work detail. The top rail has a carved plume or shell the legs are carved chippendale. The seat is webbed and filled with horsehair. The upholstery is fresh and clean with a burgundy/rust color with yellow details. The beautiful nailhead trim on 3 side of the chairs is brass. This rare antique French appliqué is a masterfull creation of the embroiderers' art. It is a small 3& 3/4 by 5 inches in a palette of ivory.Cream and cafe latte. Center of applique is embroidered with raised cotton ribbon flowers and silky threads on a delicate cotton net. With motifs of flowers and leaves outlined in delicate black stitches. The appliqué is completely hand embroidered and outlined with embroidered satin stitch with gold metal thread detail. This appliqué would make a superb headpiece for edwardian/1920's costume if ribbon was added. Excellent unused antique condition.

One of the most beautiful textiles I have ever seen. Ribbon is woven in incredibly fine SILK threads. see last picture of back of ribbon) The detail is exquisitely fine. Ribbon has sewn selvedges. And is 4& 3/4th inches in width. Flowers are about 2 1/2 inches in diameter with many motifs of leaves.Buds,flowers and exotic flora. This listing in for three complete motifs which measures just under 18 inches. Or 1/2 yard of fabulous SILK ribbon. There is no damage. Seems to be little if any fading, and no shatter. Antique Bone Ring Ribbon Chatelaine Hi and Welcome This charming chatelaine dates back to the late 1800's or early 1900's and is likely to have been Shaker made. It's put together with pale blue. Silk ribbon and bone rings(there are 19 rings) woven together to make a chain. The silk ribbon is in fragile and shattering condition but all of the other parts of the set are in amazingly good shape. There's a small. Silk, 2 leaf needlebook and a tiny, strawberry emery made from the same silk with an embroidered top. There's also a pair of 2+5/8" needlework scissors, a 3" glove darner and a 4+1/2" sock darner that look like thy were never used. In fact I don't see any holes in the emery or the needlebook pages, either. It is rare to find a set like this in such good condition. However you see them please be reminded of the'AS IS' note: Each of these very unusual 6 sided lantern shaped shades was meant to be used on a little boudoir lamp. Perfect for your Paris Apartment or elegant Shabby decor! I would date them to the 1920's or 1930's era. The colors are lovely in teal. Aged golden/bronze, pale pink and green. The stunning multi colored glass beads are red. Teal, amber, emerald green and black. I believe the beads to be Czech. Each shade has been caged with passimenterie metallic lace and trimmed with tiny silk ribbon rosettes on all of the shapely wired edges. The thread strung beads vary in size and design and include teeny crystal too. All of the b eads are present. Most of the beads are etched with pretty motifs similar to flowers. One bead strand is a little longer than the others. It is fully intact but I have not tried to adjust its length. I will leave that to the buyer. And although there are no bugbites, there are alot of weak creases and splits from being stored for many, many decades. The color is amazing as well as its sheen, but one will want to handle this with the respect due its era. It is not"melting" or"shattering" but has lots of these stress places and splits as seen in photo#3. Small pieces of this silk. English George III Period Chippendale Side Chairs w/ Reticulated Ribbon-Back Splats Third Quarter of the 18th Century c. 1760-80 Item# 110001WUW30 This listing is for a pair of Fine English George III Period Chippendale Antique Side Chairs. 18th Century probably circa 1760-70. They are visually exciting works of art. Each with pierced reticulated ribbon-back(or vertical ribbon-back) carved splat designs. The crest is a single piece of carved mahogany that drops onto both stiles, the splat bannisters likewise tenoned into the bottom and top of the chair frame, each being carved of a single piece of mahogany with the softly concave molding masterfully executed. The stiles have wonderful sense of motion, each with true individuality when compared against the next- these sidewind in a subtle bending form into the crest. The leg and stile are ... morea single piece. Moving from a well carved serpentine form in the stile to a chamfered half-cocked and backswept leg. These are locked together in a mahogany box-stretcher structure, whereby the side and back rails of the stretcher tenon into the leg, with the middle crossing stretcher half-dovetailing beneath either side rail to lock perfectly in place. The Marlboro front legs are molded on the front and side, leaving the back chamfered with no design. A serpentine form green upholstered seat rests over this entire structure, with some replaced blocking keeping the frame incredibly strong. This is a somewhat unusual design. Made more so by the exceedingly fragile splat that probably resulted in many sets being destroyed, likewise by the incredible cost of crafting such an intricate design. With a very dark and oxidized finish beneath later polishing, the pair have a nearly ebonized appearance. They feature only the best in English craftsmanship, with incredible carving and tight clean lines. LOT OF 105 ANTIQUE/VINTAGE BUTTONS, METAL, GLASS, RHINESTONES, RIBBON, ELEGANT
This is a lot of 105 antique/vintage buttons. And they are very nice ones. There are Victorian. Metals, pictures, cut steel, heavy metal with rhinestones, plastic with rhinestones, plastic with silk ribbon or cording, Gay 90's, glass, and lucite. They are very clean. No two are exactly alike, and I only saw one missing tiny rhinestone. They range in size from 3/8" in diameter to 1.5" in diameter. Pictures 2- 10 show the buttons up closer. I will go through each picture and give a brief description of each button. In picture 2, top row, left to right is a black plastic button/ black silk cording. Next is gray plastic/loops of gray& brown silk cording. I should tell you that all of this cording is clean. I have had these buttons for over twenty years, and they have been carefully packed away. Next is a large, ornately embossed ... morebrass button. Middle row on the left is a large Gay 90's button/ topaz colored stone center. The middle button is very heavy metal/orangey-rust colored rhinestones. Far right button is triple tiered filligreed metal button/clear glass center/ hand painted decorations. Second row, left is marbled gray plastic button/ black oval rhinestones at edge. Middle is gold glass button/rhinestone/black back. Right is black plastic raised gold/black metal center. This button looks like a sunflower! The bottom row has black plastic/black rhinestones. Next is a quarter for size comparison and on the right is a wonderful metal pictorial button of a peacock sitting in a tree, signed on the back"Solidaire, Paris" There is so much glare in the picture it doesn't show up well. Over the next couple of weeks I will be listing loads of lace items. All were given to me 40 years ago by a 90 year old woman. Who has worked as a seamstress in London from the age of 10 years old! so the pieces I have are from about 1886 onwards. Nonw of the lace[this piece or any I will be offering] has a musty smell, but it does need washing to remove yellowing from age. I used many of the pieces I had in dressing antique dolls that I had either collected or reproduced myself. Unfortunately my hands and eyes don't enjoy doing such fine work anymore. So it's time to stop hoarding! As I am not a lace'buff' I will try to do my best in naming them. But could very well get it wrong. I much prefer to let the pictures speak for themselves. The piece is entirely hand sewn; soft black velvet was used for the cover and the interior squares which hold the needles, the aged rosy salmon-colored interior fabric has a silky feel, but I don't believe it's silk; exterior edges are trimmed in silk ribbon which has deteriorated with age. Original antique spool of ribbon has over 7 yards still on the spool! I believe this ribbon is a silk/rayon mix. Ribbon has a very subtle lavender ombre which I could not capture with my camera. Ribbon is 5/8th of an inch in width. And a light weight silky ribbon perfect for ribbon flowers. Excellent condition.
