Description LOT NAME Suzani"Palyak" ORIGIN CIRCA Tashkent. Uzbekistan late the 19th century MATERIALS natural silk on cotton SIZE 57x82 in In ... morethe 19th century Palyak. Large size decorative embroidery, was the most important element of any bride’s dowry. In fact it was so essential that in cases when it was not available in a dowry and there was nothing to replace it with, it usually was borrowed from friends or relatives. Bride entered the house of her future husband under the protective cover of palyak, because it was said to possess the powers of a good luck charm or protective talisman. Both newly-weds were covered with it throughout the wedding ritual while it performed the role of"gushanga" mantle. It was then also used as a bedspread for their marital bed. In the later period of time palyaks became mostly wall-mounted household decorations. Translated literally as“heavenly dome” palyak was decorated with ornaments that symbolized celestial bodies: full phase moon( oy) Stars( yulduz) Etc. The motives of this embroidery was supposed to keep the newly-weds safe from evil eyes and vile spirits during the most perilous period of their life, the so called chillya. The forty-days after child birth, circumcision, wedding and death. The typical size of Palyak was about 98in- 118 in, with minor deviations in some cases. Embroidery of one piece of this kind usually required more than 5 km of silk thread, due to the fact that the stitches were exclusively using couching technique with twisted yarn. The main colors used were black, yellow, dark Bordeaux, raspberry pink and sometimes limited presence of violet, the latter completely absent on older embroideries. Bordeaux served as the main background color. The most frequently present ornament on palyaks are the ornamented circles. The so called oy(standing for the full moon) In the old days those were often embroidered by red(the silk was dyed with ruyan natural dye that gave it rich shiny gloss. Truly pleasing the eye) Those circles were usually set

A Brilliant Rare Antique Uzbek Julykhyrs Rug A1543 Search A I am proud to offer this brilliant antique weaving from Uzbek people living around Amu Darya ... moreriver in Central Asia. It dates to middle of the 20th century and such rare rugs are known as Julykhyrs(Juljhir or Julkhyr) meaning bear covers because of their shaggy appearance. It is woven with good wool in a high pile manner and such rugs were often sleeping rugs. Like most Uzbek weaving. It is made up of panels sewn together. The design is very archaic with rich colors highlighting the beauty. It is a very tribal weaving and such rugs are quite hard to find. It is in a runner shape. Don't let this one go as it is not the type of weaving one will come across a lot. I have listed it at a very low price and am confident that the winner will love it. It is lots of wool so please ask for shipping quote. Wool 100% SIZE: 54x129 in. Fully Hand-made. Wonderful tribal design. CONDITION: The condition is good and it is well intact. Full pile. After profession cleaning. Ready to use. Thanks for taking the time to look and best of luck should you choose to join the auction. Please check my other listings. Thank you!

RARE ANTIQUE UZBEK LARGE STUNNING FULLY HANDMADE SILK EMBROIDERY SUZANI P V1853
Description LOT NAME Suzani"Palyak" ORIGIN CIRCA Tashkent. Uzbekistan late the 19th century MATERIALS natural silk on cotton SIZE 57x82 in In the 19th century Palyak. In the later period of time palyaks became mostly wall-mounted ... morehousehold decorations.

RARE PAMIR'S TAJIK UZBEK FULLY SILK HAND-EMBROIDERED ROOBAND FACE-VEIL A1985
Description This item is Tadjik silk handmade embroidery named Rooband. It was used as a face veil for brides during wedding ceremonies. Earlier women in Asian countries had few rights and none of men could see a woman for the exception of her close relatives(such as husband. Father, uncle- a number of relatives differed depending on a country) That is why Asian women wore a thin grid to close their faces. Rooband is a small rectangular or square piece of cotton cloth, covered with densely worked embroidery ornament. The central rectangle is elongated and divided into horizontal bands, the uppermost band accommodating the grid for the eyes. The ornamental motifs of roobands are not particularly diverse, being traditional and of a relatively small number. These motifs are primarily geometric, encompassing all kinds of triangles, rhombuses, ... moreand squares, often representing stylized trees, flowering plants, rosettes, and stylized birds. The stylized birds appearing on roobands are always embroidered in red thread. The shape of triangles is reminiscent of the small Muslim amulets, tumorcha, used for protection against misfortune. It is likely that these shapes have a similar magical or prophylactic character in embroidery. Size: 21x32 inches. Condition: very good. This Uzbek Tadjik Silk handmade embroidery- Rooband is a perfect sample of skill and quality of Uzbek embroideries. Its a wonderful purchase to use it as a decoration for the interior. It was used for weddings, birthdays, etc. But in the early 20th C this type of women cloths was changed with usual robe"Chapan" and Comisole. And in the 20th C Munisak(kaltacha) as usual women's clothes disappeared at all. However, Munisak was one of the most beautiful and elegant women's clothing in Central Asia. It reminds the European crinoline. Thanks for taking the time to look and best of luck should you choose to join the auction Please check my other listings. Thank you!

The Golden Horde was one of four Mongol dynasties founded by sons and grandsons of Chingiz(Genghis) Khan. The others were the Ilkhans. Chaghatayids, and the Chinese Yuan Dynasty. This is a silver dirham, 17 mm in size and weighing 0.90 grams, struck during the reign of Muhammad Uzbek(AH 712-742/ 1312-1341 AD) The mint and date are not visible, but it is definitely the type of Qrim al-Mahrusa struck in AH 720. This type apparently was struck for many years with the frozen date 720, as there is much variation in die styles, and they are often found quite worn. This example has the word"khan" applied as a countermark. The‘khan’ countermark is believed to have been applied by‘Abd Allah Khan(AH 762-771) The host coin grades VG-Fine. The countermark is a decent VF. The host is Album 2025. The countermark is listed in the Album’s third ... moreedition as 2025G. UZBEK HANDCRAFTED WOVEN SILK-COTTON IKAT ADRAS FABRIC
UZBEK HANDCRAFTED WOVEN SILK-COTTON IKAT ADRAS FABRIC ikat cloud adras blend of silk& cotton fabric Search Of all the textile arts of Central Asia it is the ikats that you will probably find the most exciting. The brilliance in color and extraordinary pattern designs are reminiscent of modern painting. Many of the motifs used originated from flowers. Fruits, animals, household items and images that were seen in our people's daily lives. The single feature shared by all of these extraordinary pattern textiles is the dyeing process which is undertaken before the individual elements are arranged upon the loom. All ikat cloths have either their warps, their wefts or in rare cases both warps and wefts dyed only in selective areas and only before those threads have been placed upon the loom. The process of preventing the dyes from penetrating ... morethe entire warp or weft is known as'reserving' or'resist dyeing' and produces the essential characteristics of ikat cloth. At the points w the reserved areas meet the dyed sections, carefully controlled amounts of color merge with one another randomly creating subtle, slightly blurred patterns. The dyeing technique ensures that each'cloud' is unique; each nebulous area of conjunction differs slightly from the others, and it is this aesthetic quality which suggests an analogy with clouds. The item is Uzbek silk-cotton ikat adras hand woven fabric. The pattern of the silk-cotton fabric is very old and it is composed of beautiful stylized birds, various blurred shapes. The panel originates from Margilan. The fabric is brilliant. Bright and beautiful. Great item to touch the real handmade textile! Measurments: 126-16 in. 320?40 cm) Condition: excellent. UZBEK SILK HAND EMBROIDERY SUZANI MYTHIC BIRDS A2096
Description The love for beautiful patterned embroideries has been developing in the Uzbek people for many centuries. In the past it was mainly women who took up decorative needlework. The ancient patterns and the techniques of needlework were passed on from mother to daughter. Girls were taught the embroidery art since their childhood and were expected to become a good hand at it. Each family made its decorative embroideries for its own needs. It usually took nearly two years to make a suzani. Mother started to embroider a dowry for her daughter when she was a little child. And if a family could not complete all necessary embroideries by the wedding day. They asked their relatives and neighbors for help. Special artists elaborated embroidery patterns. They knew a lot of traditional ornaments, varied them and created new compositions. The ... moreart of these masters was always held in high respect. STUNNING UZBEK SILK HAND-EMBROIDERY SUZANI WITH FISH & TREE OF LIFE GREAT A2127
Description"We can learn a lot from trees: they're always grounded but never stop reaching heavenward. Everett M. LOT Suzani. Decorative hand embroidery ORIGIN Uzbekistan MATERIALS natural silk on natural silk. All dyes are natural CONDITION EXCELLENT SIZE 60x98 in I'm proud of to offer the Uzbek Suzani used to decorate a wall in a guestroom. It is fully hand-embroidered with organic silk threads. The foundation is natural silk. The composition consists of the pomegranate tree with winding stems with leafs. Graceful flowers and fish motif. Until recently the peoples of Uzbekistan, like other nations, attributed great meaning to the magic power of certain objects, plants and animals, aimed to use them as talisman against the agency of evil spirits. Usually depictions of fish are linked with water; they are pictures at the bed ... moreof a flowering bush, in which case a connection is understood with the water of life. The fish is also the symbol of the fertility of woman. The Tree of Life is a Universal symbol found in many spiritual traditions around the world. It symbolizes life itself. With it's branches reaching for the Heavens"Father Sky" and it's buried roots, linking to"Mother Earth" Many ancient mythical stories come from the idea that all living beings are born from the earth; the source of life and sustenance for all.
