Woolwork Embroidery Tapestry for Framing/Cushions etc Here we have for sale a quite incredible piece of needlework. I cannot be certain of when this piece dates to as I have not come across this style of embroidery before. I would however think there is a certain amount of age to it. The material used is filled in completely with something similar to herringbone stitch embroidery. Which means this is a weighty piece of fabric. It is very cleverly worked, with the stitches flowing in varying directions to add texture and movement. The coloursof the yarns are stunning, cleverly blending and off setting each other in tones of mauves, greys, blues, white and browns. The way it is worked is almost like a piece that has been knitted in stocking ... morestitch. ANTIQUE GEORGIAN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER BY JANE JENKINS 1825 Measurement: 16 x 12 1/2 inches An early needlework sampler which has been very finely worked in exquisite tiny stitches by Jane Jenkins in 1825. It is worked in coloured silks on a very fine linen ground with a verse and lots of flower motifs. Birds, stags, a crown and a strawberry border. Unfortunately it has a fair amount of damage and I have supplied many photos below to show this. There has been a linen border attached which is coming away from the edge. The actual edge of the sampler is damaged as shown. There are some holes and a split on the left hand side(shown below) The colours are faded. The colours on my photos vary- the close ups appearing lighter than it actually is but the actual colour is even throughout the ground being an even light brown natural linen colour- I think ... morethe last photo below is the nearest match. This book is in good condition considering it's age. If you want to get a perspective of the crafter at the turn of the century this is a great book. Vtg Antique Primitive Wool Throw Needlework Flowers Patched Homemade AS IS. Thank you so much for looking at our item. We are offering a vintage throw for your consideration. To me. It is fascinating because the item has been fashioned from scraps of wool fabric(some pieced within each"floral" area) at a time when items were repurposed so as not to be wasteful. These portions were then joined(looks like hand stitching on the reverse) and decorated with X stitches on the top, using a verigated, coarse, green thread. Needlework flowers have been stitched within each of these areas, in a multitude of colors and styles. Towards the edge of the design are small diamond shapes that are a different fabric, navyish-black, and have smaller sprays of flowers. The texture of this fabric is not the same as the heavy black wool fabric. The entire ... morepiece is bound with a deep reddish color fabric(cotton or cotton muslin blend perhaps? This looks to be hand-stitched as well. I dare say it is likely a one-of-a-kind item. This item was acquired at a church sale and I was told that it was from the estate of a congregant who had passed just prior to celebrating his 100th birthday. CONDITION: Please know that the item is not perfect. To my mind. It is what you would expect from something that is a fairly good age and most likely cherished and appreciated by the family and repaired when necessary. Within some of the squares there has been repairs made and I have tried to capture a bit of this within some of the photos. The final four photos show the reverse of the item and hopefully will give you a sense of how it is constructed. There are NO moth holes and the binding is still nice and bright with just a small bit of wear. About an inch or two in length. MEASUREMENTS: Overall the item measures about 71" across and 40" from top to bottom. The large"diamond" areas are about 13 3/4" x 12 1/2" The smaller ones near the edge are about 6 1/2" x 6 1/4" Shipping would be $23.60 to US bidders.

Antique Sampler Hand Painted Silk School of Art Needlework Baltimore MD c. 1890 This is quite an interesting piece– when I first saw this at Auction I believed it to be a Sampler with the stitching you would normally see creating the design– after closer inspection. I discovered the entire design is hand painted– the scene appears to be a woman in the garden. As shown in one of the photos this is from the School of Art Needlework in Baltimore, MD and was likely done by one of the students– the painting was done on silk. This measures 10” x 13 ⅝” and, although not shown, does have a glass front. The Photos also show there are some water stains as well as a tear in the silk which is difficult to see when flat or under the glass. I have not seen many like this. C1823 New England Antique Needlework Sampler Jane Church Age 10 Ashfield Mass
This is a C1823 New England Antique Needlework Sampler by Jane Church Age 10. On the Family Search website. There is a Jane Church that was born about 1813 in Ashfield Massachusetts. I purchased this sampler locally here in Franklin County in Western Massachusetts and Ashfield is also located in Franklin County. So I feel confident that this sampler may have belonged to her and is definitelylocal to me. Since she identified her age, this sampler probably was done about 1823. The sampler is in excellent condition and was stored very carefully out of the light and was never framed. It measures 8 1/2" x 8" and includes upper and lower case alphabet done in silks along with a cartouche with her name and age. On each side of the cartouche are a stylized bird, florals and what appears to be two dogs. The sampler is in pristine condition ... moredone in hand spun and handwoven linen and silk thread with only a tiny tan spot just below the lower case f. The naturally dyed silk colors are still strong and include white, pink, light green olive green, and black. There is no damage. Three of the edges were hemstitched and the fourth(bottom) is selvage. Apparently it was just folded in a drawer all these years. Also according to Family Search, Jane Church died about 1880. There is no date. Antique Needlework Sewing Bag/ Reticule/ Purse- As Found You are bidding on the unmarked. Undated antique sewing bag shown in the photos. This was found in the attic of a multigenerational estate. It was filled with VERY old sewing items- scissors, pins and wooden spools of thread that were so old that the thread fell into pieces when handled. Discoloration and smudging are consistent with age. The crocheted yarn is fragile. This is sold as found. I'm unsure if this is home made or not. There is no tag. There are 6 identical panels of cotton 3-D fabric that have a needlework pattern in red wool yarn. There is a coarse polished cotton( lining or extension. See the last photo. The bottom is open and there is an unstitched fold-over If this were to be used as a reticule, this tucks inside as a lining. Whe it was found it was everted and ... morefolded back upon the sewing items The six needlework panels are joined and trimmed with crocheted wool yarn. The lining appears to be machine stitched in place. For size reference, the double pointed panels measure 8" x 3" Someone long ago inserted a loop of silvertone wire to reinforce the multi strand cotton thread that was( but no longer is) wrapped with red wool yarn. Watch Sampler, Antique Miniature Needlework, ca 1800
This watch sampler is executed on a fine fabric. Such a s tiffany. And chain stitched to an unwashed muslin backing. It consists of a bouquet of flowers in petit point and little motifs, possibly fleur de lis. The needlework is very fine and well executed. A watch sampler would have been made by a lady for her gentleman to carry with him in his pocket watch. This tiny love token has sadly never been used. It has been kept all these years in a glass topped cardboard box with a painted lid. Under the sampler is a printed saying on fine tissue that probably came out of a Christmas cracker. Vintage Antique Coverlet Hand Sewn Floral Applique Needlework & Pink Border Full
For your consideration is this fabulous old cotton coverlet. It has been decorated with floral appliques in red. Lavender, yellow and pink. The coverlet has a pink border than goes all the way around the spread. It has notches for bed posts at the bottom corners(see photos) The overall measurements are 93" long and 80" wide. I believe it would fit a full size bed. The needlework is quality work and quite lovely. The border has a hand stitched decorative stitch around the seam of the border to the field of the coverlet. This was purchased at an estate auction where it was removed from an old wooden trunk. There is a stain, that looks like a water stain, in the middle toward the top of the cover. This little antique sterling silver glove darning tool is 4 1/4 inches long. The center main body is stamped"Sterling" in two places. Each end is a removable wooden"egg" that slides off to reveal a very sharp needlework implement. The wooden ends are painted black. We are not certain what type of needlework this would enable; possibly tatting. The condition of this item is excellent. There is normal wear noted with some of the gloss missing from the painted ends. There are no dents. Wrinkles, bends or monograms. There is no maker's mark. We estimate that this item is circa 1880. The sampler is undated, but judging by the needlework characteristics, motifs used, and coloration, I can safely say it fits into the genre of Schoolgirl Alphabet Samplers time frame of early to mid 19th c approximately 1820-1850 in this country. It measures a large 18" by 12" and work fills the entire area with a small old gilded wood ... moreframe and solid old hard wood backboard, sturdy and tight no breaks or splits, fitted with a hanging wire for your wall. Please study the many pictures provided to see all the details of this fine piece. A large and squiggly two toned Strawberry Border runs around the entire work. Capturing an upper double row of capital Alphabet lettering over a double row of Script Alphabet lettering. Fancy stitched line borders seperate each bar. The lower middle center is graced by her name ECF Talbot over numerals 1 through 0(meaning ten)flanked by a pair of prominent Topiary Flower Pots. So I imagine this would be of around the same age or earlier. The work of Elisabeth Wright. Aged 9 years- completed using fine wool and a khaki colour linen ground. Letters and numerals, the lower portion decorated with Jacobean style flowers and a couple of small blue birds. Some of the stitches have been worked with a green/khaki coloured wool and are quite difficult to read against the similar coloured background- see line 3. The sampler retains a red material tag attached by the previous owner. Who used this method to catalogue some of her items. Superb Antique pre victorian linen needlework sampler dated 1826
Needlework Sampler A superb example of a needlework sampler produced by Celena Pearn aged 9 in 1826. Wonderful quality of stitching and superb artistry. Especially for a nine year old. A Floral border encloses two heraldic angels blowing trumpets. Below that a floral centrepiece can be seen beside 2 pairs of winged cherubs holding garlands of flowers between them. Below that you have a verse from genesis which relates to adam and eve pictured beside the tree of life with its apples. A serpent can also be seen in the tree. To the bottom of the sampler there is some discolouration. This has been rather difficult to photograph because of the glass and the time of year. If you would like anymore photos please let me know. Two out of the four shells decorating the frame are missing, one more has since fallen off. Piece consists of a C-shaped anchor and a wooden screw which tightens to clamp-on to a table or counter edge. The pincushions surface is a red velvet bar. Wear-and-Tear: Well used. But in excellent condition. The wood is not cracked or split. The varnish is scuffed up in places, but the wood itself is not. All joints and wood seams are tight without wobble.
