This is an old Hand Stitched Quilt Top in a Flower Basket pattern. Made of some feed and flour sack fabric. There are a couple of novelty fabrics that are really neat. One has little ducks marching across it and the other one has football players. The blocks are 12 3/8" The whole top measures 71 x 88. Hand pieced and hand stitched. Both for the vintage fabrics but also for the newspaper that the strips of fabric are se wn on. The paper is clearly dated. Dec. 22 1935. The articles and photos are fascinating. There are comics. Advertisements, war pictures, girlie pics etc. etc. The top itself features a crazy spider web strip pattern. The fabrics are great novelty prints, it is in good condition, I noticed light spotting on one tip of a star, this is a large piece it measures approximately 65" x 74" it would lay flat if paper were removed, I did not want to dist urb it too much. VINTAGE Textile patchwork Silk& Satin Quilt Measures approx.73” x 85” Each square started as 12" but is now 11 1/2" Some top hand embroidery(feather stitch) but not as much as a true crazy quilt.Wonderful vivid colors. This came straight from an estate sale so I have not washed or ironed this piece especially since it is mostly made of silks& satin. Many vintage pieces of satin. And other fancy silks that were so popular in the late Victorian era have been treasured and preserved. Many of the silk fabrics used in quilts are weighted with mineral salts and other substances. This means the fabrics have been coated with, or have actually absorbed, these substances to give them more weight and a stiffer texture. Unfortunately, weighting substances also speed up the fabric's deterioration. Silk is extremely susceptible to ... morelight damage. Which can be seen in brittleness, splits, and the eventual powdering of the yarns. Sometimes, even though a piece of silk may appear in perfect condition, it can be extremely fragile. Dust and dirt can do a great deal of harm to silk quilts, as can wet cleaning and dry cleaning. The cotton fabrics are crisp and never laundered. There are approx. 480 squares measuring 3.5 inches finished. They are mostly sewn by hand and some are sewn be treadle machine. This is a cute vintage"cat in a basket" quilt top ~ measures 72" x 55" Assorted vintage fabrics were used for the baskets with all of the cats a turquoise solid fabric. The cats facial features are hand sewn and each basket and cat are hand appliqued to the muslin square. There is one place(pic 10) where the blue band has began to come loose. But very easy to fix. Vintage 1930s Irish Chain Baby Quilt Top Just Adorable! What a sweet quilt top! Lots of work went into this treasure with all the tiny pieces. The top measures approx. 34" long x 24" wide. You may want to add sashing and borders to make it bigger. All hand-pieced. Many tiny squares were neatly sewn together in a 9-patch design to make an Irish Chain pattern. A colorful variety of delicate pastel prints and solids coordinate beautifully against an off-white background. Check out the pictures to see for yourself! Each 9-patch block measures 3" And the tiny squares are 7/8" VERY SMALL! There are some issues. It has been packed away. And there are a few storage stains and small flecks. Early Vintage Unused Hand-pieced PATCHWORK QUILT TOP Feedsack Search Antique Feedsack Quilt Top This vintage patchwork quilt top came from an estate auction in Ephrata. Pennsylvania, it is machine stitched and made of a variety of old fabrics-there are old stripes. Tiny plaids, ginghams, checks, floral, ticking, even some old flannel and more. There is no rhyme or reason to the patches in each of the 30 large blocks of the quilt; however the pieces inside each block do complement each other and have a separate pattern than each of the other blocks. It was constructed using old newspaper patterns as some bits of the paper were sewn into the seams and some of it is still stuck in the stitching and can be seen on the reverse side. It is a generous 82" x 72" and has beautiful muted colors in great combinations. Fabric is crisp a nd ... morebright and is in fabulous condition with no rips. Tears or stains and will arrive clean and ready to be made into a great quilt. Huge old top in the Job's Troubles or Snowball pattern. And there are several more pattern names. Made in the 1930's or 40's, machine stitched, though there are a few pieces set by hand. In great condition, no holes or bad fabric. There are some small stains that I believe will wash out, I haven't tried to clean it. Vintage Feedsack Hand Stitched Nine Patch Quilt Top Hand Pieced
Vintage Hand Stitched 9 Patch Quilt Top Make a Quilt or Use for Craft& Christmas Projects Age and quilter are unknown Quilt Top is hand pieced quilt with large squares being machine sewn to gray. I believe the majority of the 9 patch squares are feedsack with some shirting and assorted cottons. Now some of the feedsack looks really old- like the darker reds and some navy. App 80" x 68" squares measure just over 3x3 with full 9 patch square at app 10x10 I held the top up to the sunlight to search for holes and found none! There are some strings here and there that look like wrinkles in the quilt top but the wind made it so hard to get smooth photos. There is some age staining but I didn't laundered the top& it has no odor The last photo should show the back of the quilt with some hangover from the clothesline. The gray ... moresquares and border is some type of blend. Cotton& rayon, not sure. I do know that it has a sheen and has?unraveled. If I used this for a quilt I'd replace the gray. This auction is for a small vintage scrappy quilt top measuring 40 inches square. The top may have been planned as a baby quilt because the edge triangles have been sewn on except for one corner. However. Very few of the fabrics are baby-related. The workmanship is poor; seam allowances vary, the top does not lay flat, and the seam intersections do not meet. The individual patches measure approximately 2.5 inches. Lot of 40 Vintage 50s and Older Quilt Blocks and Small Quilt Top with Feedsack
Up for bidding is a lot of 40 vintage quilt blocks and a small quilt top. 1. 6 yellow flower applique quilt blocks. 17.75 x 17.75 inches-One of them is sewn by a different person and is not as neat as the others. All of them have a small pinhole in the lower right corner where someone pinned them together with a big safety pin(see picture 4) All of them need washed. 2. 18 black and blue octagon quilt blocks. 12 x 12 inches. These blocks look older than the others. They look machine-sewn by an old treadle sewing machine. They do not have very many spots. 3. 16 1950s star quilt blocks. 10 x 10 inches. These blocks are pretty clean with only a few scattered spots. The worst spot is shown in the close-up. These are all hand sewn. 4. Small quilt top. About 31.5 X 39.5 inches. Vintage quilt top - blue and brown - 61 inches by 90 inches
This vintage quilt top measures 61 inches by 90 inches. The 4-patch units measure 5 to 5.25 inches. The 4-patch unit with borders measures 9 inches. There are 28 blocks. The Cadet blue/indigo blue fabric is fragile and rips easily. I would not recommend using this fabric as part of a quilt; it's purpose is more educational. One section of blue fabric along the border is missing(photo 3) There is color loss in the gold/tan fabric bordering each 4-patch unit(photos 7 and 8) Some of the 4-patch units appear faded. Others have vibrant color. The top is stained and grubby. The top was assembled by hand and machine(last photo) possibly more than one person sewed the blocks and/or top. In my opinion, the best part of this quilt top are the 4-patch units.
