Circa 1900s These quality French loomed tapestries were produced during the early years of the last century and has a typical rural scene of country folk during their mid day break. All are dressed in 19 th century attire one sat on a cut down wine barrel and using the other half for a card table. With a dog looking on, and the all important game of boule in the background. A fine old tapestry with colours still strong and very vibrant and all in good condition. Perfect for any large wall or staircase. Size 76 x 49 inch. 193 x 124.5 cm. Please view my other items. Antique French Neyret? Silk weaving, Perdus Dans La Foret" lost in the forest} after a painting by Wunsch It is not signed, marked anywhere that I can see. I did not take it out of frame. I believe it is French in origin was most likely produced by Neyret Freres. This item is from a estate. It had been professionally matted and framed under glass. The frame is 19" x 14" The actual silk work is 11 1/2" x 7 1/2" I did lighten the photos to show more detail. Hard to get a good photo of the actual look of the silk. My photos of it do not do it justice. In real life the silk is bright and has shimmer, the coloring of the silk changes according to the light and the angle of the picture when looking at it. The Aubusson depicts a striped cat and a stork within a pretty cartouche of flowers and acanthus leaves. The Aubusson has some areas of wear(very common with a piece this old) which I have pretty much repaired. The back is completely reinforced to prevent further damage. Offered for your consideration today is another pillow from my Victorian range that has been newly created by me from antique and new fabrics. The amazing textile featured on this pillow is one of the very early machine loomed tapestries dating ... moreto the mid to late 1800s. Not to be confused with the later jacquard tapestries. This sits somewhere between the hand woven, and the more modern machine ones. The warp yarn is of identical composition to the older hand woven tapestries and the weft differs only in that it is not hand tempered and tied at the back. The design is distinctly Aubusson with the acanthus fronds, roses and familiar dotted border. I have added a gold designer fabric on the sides and trimmed the front with some amazing 19th century metallic gold trim. If you have a look at my close-up you will see this tape has a thin strip of gold metal running its length. From my research I have learned that for many centuries real gold was often used for these tapes as they were destined to embellish vestments. The Church* was as powerful as any of the nobility and just as wealthy. So they always had the most luxurious textiles of the times. Sadly many of these were burnt by people who were seeking to recover the gold content. I have no clue whether or not this tape has the real gold…more than likely not, but despite a few breaks in its length it is still a beautiful trim and it matches perfectly with the tapest

The Aubusson tapestry is hand woven in silk and wool and depicts a young couple. The lad is tickling the girl with a feather as she sleeps. They are surrounded by a floral cartouche. The Aubusson tapestry measures approx. 16” x 18” The colors are beige. Cream, pink, red, coral, burgundy, brown, green, tan, and more. Please check photos carefully for condition. There are several repairs and a couple of separations. I have backed the entire piece to reinforce against further damage. The photo I took of the back was taken before I reinforced the tapestry. I used a pink pom pom trim around the Aubusson. The fabric in the front is a silk and mohair ... morevelvet with a classic tone on tone design. The fabric I used on the back is a cream sculptured velvet. I finished the pillow with an antique silk and cotton cream and pink tassel trim which varies in length. The tapestry appears to be machine made and is marked"Made in France" The piece is of a French Country Manor with courting couples in a lovely country courtyard. This is 3 French Antique Panels as shown and each is filled with colorful hand work having soft antique Velvet fabric on base of each panel. Although the antique French velvet is tattered and torn it remains all original as found and if you prefer you could easily add on one of those iron on-sticky fabric to keep the tears together as I have added merely tape just for now. Otherwise one could easily add another fabric over this or better ... moreyet add some antique motifs right in front on top of the tears. However. The passementerie lace and fringe have been attached to a silk brocade. The attention to detail on this piece's construction is extraoridinary beautiful. I believe the piece is Victorian Era. When I received this piece it has a backing piece of fabric that I estimate was a later addition. 1930 ish. I have seen this fabric in many 1930 quilts. It was necessary to remove it. The fringe on this piece is approx 3" long. The metalic crocheted ... moreshell decoration divides the piece down the middle with a reverse image and around the edges. The silk brocade was piece together(see last photo) and the passementerie lace was added for adornment and most likely to cover the seams. You can see a pink band of fabric behind the lace using the enlargement photo feature in our listings. As I mentioned before the cloth backing that was attached was removed. I did that for two reasons. It was the wrong fabric for the piece. And it was dirty. I have hand washed this piece and it is clean but needs pressing. As I am not too familiar with this metal lace I have not attempted to press it as I don't know what iron setting to use or how an irons heat would effect the lace. Wow.Where to start-I am in charge of selling off Grams huge estate. She was a collector of anything old and unique-and she had many tapestries and wall hangings- This is the oldest of the tapestries- It looks like they are dancing around the may pole- I know nothing about tapestries or dancing around the may pole- But I do know this is very old and kind of large, 56 inches long and 34 inches wide. This piece of tapestry with 3 antique European scenes is in very good condition with no dirt. Holes, or stains. The top edge or boarder has some slight unraveling(1/8" all the way across) Since the ends are fringed then the unraveling is not noticeable for the overall look of the tapestry. It measures 19" by 56" and can be used as a wall hanger or a table runner. The grey color in the close ups is a more accurate match than the blue color in the wide angle of the entire piece

Vintage/Antique? Hand Made Tapestry. Dog & Bird, French?
Lovely hand made tapestry with a Dog chasing a Bird. Not sure if you would class this as an antique or vintage as I am not sure how old it is? I think it may be French. But just my opinion! The tapestry is in very good condition for its age and it is mounted in to a modern-ish frame, behind glass. The frame has some minor damage with veneer lifting and a very small bit missing top left corner. The frame is 18 inches x 23.5 inches and the tapestry is 14 inches x 19.5 inches in size. To ship it in the UK complete with frame I would think will cost about £15 with the packing materials or I can remove it from the frame and it would probably cost about £6.50 to post. Buyers choice! I am happy to ship it outside of the UK but please ask me for a price before bidding.

Beautiful Antique French Tapestry A beautiful loomed French tapestry dating from around the late 19 th century. It depicts a romantic rural scene from an earlier period of a young gentleman accompanied by two young ladies as they spend an afternoon fishing by the riverside bank. The group is overhung by a large tree which has a garland of leaves hanging from its lower branches. A very long tapestry in excellent condition with only minor thinning just at the side of the standing girls feet(please see pics) also very minor wear on the edge of one side of the border caused by movement when opening and closing doors. This length of tapestry was often used over doors to keep out the draughts in large chateau rooms.
