Book: ANTIQUE WILLIAM MORRIS ARTS & CRAFTS MOVEMENT DESIGNS -TEXTILES FURNITURE
William Morris as Designer” By Ray Watkinson. Published in New York by Reinhold Publishing Corporation in 1967. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: William Morris. Master Arts& Crafts designer of the late 19th century, is often presented as backward-looking, a"simple-lifer" out of touch with the onrushing machine age. ANTIQUE AMERICAN QUILTS in the WINTERTHUR COLLECTION -FABULOUS TEXTILES
Quilts in a Material World. Selections from the Winterthur Collection” By Linda Eaton. Published in New York by Abrams Books in 2007. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: In this pioneering publication. Winterthur’s renowned quilt collection is presented through dazzling color photographs that showcase rich fabrics and skillful needlework techniques. The letters of twenty-three-year-old Mary Remington, a dedicated quilt maker, and the extraordinary whitework quilt she made in 1815—the only known example of an American quilted coat of arms—provide themes for the book, which looks at the quilts through the lives of their makers. Among the reproductions included—many are being seen here for the first time—are quilts that express religious faith or commemorate marriages and other family connections; quilts in support of political ... morecandidates, made by women who could not vote; quilted bedspreads with matching quilted valances and dressing-table covers pictured in room settings; and much more. This exquisite presentation provides a rare opportunity to view the strengths of the Winterthur quilt collection—highlighting examples from the period of the early American republic—and to understand how the economics and politics of the time affected quilt materials and design in the early nineteenth century. Linda Eaton is curator of textiles at Winterthur Museum and Country Estate. DESCRIPTION: Hardcover. 10”x10” 208 pages, 175 color illustrations, dust jacket. CONDITION NOTES: In fine. Clean condition. PARNHAM PARK- ANTIQUE ENGLISH FURNITURE, TEXTILES, SILVER & ANTIQUES -Christie's
An Interesting Auction Catalog- Parham Park. Pulborough, West Sussex. Selected Furniture, Works of Art, Silver, Textiles, Costume, Linen, European Porcelain and Glass” The catalog to an auction held in London by Christie's on May 13-14. 1996. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: A selection of very fine antiques- superb English furniture. Silver and ceramics, and an extraordinary assortment of antique linens& textiles. Parham Park is an Elizabethan house in Cootham. Between Storrington and Pulborough, West Sussex, South East England, originally owned by the Monastery of Westminster and granted to Robert Palmer by King Henry VIII in 1540. The foundation stone was laid in 1577 by the two year old Thomas Palmer, and Parham has been a family home ever since. Thomas Bishopp(later Sir Thomas Bishopp, 1st Baronet) bought ... moreParham House in 1597. For 325 years his descendants continued to live at Parham House Estate until January 1922. Then in 1922 the Hon. Clive Pearson, younger son of Viscount Cowdray, bought Parham from Mary, 17th Baroness Zouche in her own right, and he and his wife Alicia opened the house to visitors in 1948, after the Second World War when it had also been home to evacuee children and Canadian soldiers. Off the Long Gallery at the top of the house there is a fascinating exhibition which touches on the period between 1922 and 1948, with many family photographs as well as photographs of the building works which took place during that time. Mr and Mrs Pearson, followed by their daughter Veronica Tritton, spent more than 60 years carefully restoring Parham and filling it with a sensitively chosen collection of beautiful old furniture, paintings and textiles, also acquiring items originally in the house. There is a particularly important collection of early needlework. What they created at Parham is a rare survival of mid 20th Century connoisseurship within a major Elizabethan house. Now owned by a charitable trust, Parham House and Gardens are surrounded by some 875 acres(3.54

ANTIQUE AMERICAN FURNITURE, SILVER, TEXTILES, ANTIQUES -STANLEY SAX COLLECTION
An Interesting Auction Catalog- Highly Important Americana from the Stanley Paul Sax Collection” The catalog to an auction held in New York by Sotheby's on January 16-17th. 1998. description continues below the picture- DISCUSSION: The auction of the superlative collection of this well-known and discerning collector of fine American furniture. Silver and related antiques including textiles, portrait miniatures, clocks and prints. The catalog includes an appreciation of Sax by Wendell Garrett, from which we quote several passages- Modest. Unpretentious, and studious, Stan Sax was good company. To the collecting of American antiques he brought an insatiable curiosity, a pursuit of thoroughness and excellence, and an unquenchable thirst for new intellectual adventures. He was the paragon of a collector- a self of unlimited dimensions; a ... morehugely talented, searching, contemplative, daring, visionary, understanding connoisseur-a gentle personality that inspired friendship and a character that justified confidence. He was taken from us at seventy-one, in the prime of his seniority; it hurts to think of what he would have done with more time, but it also helps to remember how fully he used the time he had. He was an expert authority and passionate collector of high-style American furniture and silver who valued things of beauty with which he surrounded himself, whether books, paintings, or other decorative arts. He had that primary personal attribute for the connoisseur of decorative arts which Charles Montgomery termed, a good visual memory stored with an infinite number of images of ordinary, fine, and superior objects mentally pigeonholed for desirability' Stan was a generous benefactor of gifts to the Diplomatic Reception Rooms of the United States Department of State and the Detroit institute of Arts, and was active in the affairs of the Baltimore Museum of Art, The Henry Ford Museum, and the Friends of the American Wing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Antique Asian Chinese? embroidered silk panels, textiles, robe sleeve fragments?
Two antique Asian(Chinese? silk and linen embroidered panels with dragons and geometric patterns. Robe or sleeve band fragments? Blue and yellow panel: 8 1/2" x 28 1/2" bright yellow silk backing) Gold(metallic) and black panel: 11 1/2" x 24" black linen backing) The main photo shows the truest color. With the black and gold one, the black is really black, not blueish as photographed. The blue and gold one is in pretty good condition. However the black and gold one has many loose threads, I would say fair to poor condition. These belonged to my grandmother. Who was a big antique collector in New England during the 1960's and 1970's, that's all the information I have about these pieces.

DESCRIPTION] For your consideration is a One of a Kind Antique African Ceremonial Costume with Hand Appliqued construction and what appears to be Wool and Burlap Textiles/Materials. I'm still doing some research on this costume or robe. It shows some true wear throughout including some soiling. Holes, and loose stitching. I have pictured as many angles and pieces of the costume as are necessary to see the wear. The ceremonial costume measures about 6ft. in length. The previous owner of this costume had an iron display welded specifically for the gown but I will not be able to ship that piece of its construction. The exact provenance and region of Africa is not known. I purchased this item from a local Estate. The previous owner told me that this item had been passed down several generations and gifted to her mother. The family had strong ... morepolitical ties to Africa and had a number of museum quality pieces within the Estate. The family bought, sold and traded textiles and antiquities from both the US and Africa. I thought this particular item was exceptional and rare.
