Very nice Antique VINTAGE RUNNER OR DRESSER SCARF done in what is called Appenzell Embroidery. This also has a very nice crocheted edge all around This was either done by Great Grandma or a great Aunt? Just removed from Grandma's cedar chest. SIZE approx. 12 1/2 x 38 L. In a very creamy white of light light beige. Thread used is Tan. There are a couple of brown(age spots? on one end. Which I am sure will come out with spray& Wash, or antique dealer told me Toothpast rubbed on these spots, take them out. I have listed as removed from Cedar chest. I leave laundry to buyer, who probably knows more what to do than I do, priced accordingly. Beautiful work on this. Non smoking home Note: Appenzell Emboidery was first done in the 1700's. These belonged to an interior designer based in San Francisco and I believe the sheets were her mother's. These were found very carefully folded and stored in plastic bags. So they were highly prized. Some of the most elaborate monogramming I have ever seen. Unique hand embroidered monogram. Great quality and extermely soft to the touch. Edges are hand embroidered. Heavy weighted pink cotton or linen. Possibly French? These show browning from storage. But this should all come out with a gentle soak. There is one spot on one sheet that appears to have a slight clorox stain. The sheets appears to have been used very little due to the condition. For all linen collectors. Figural linen from the Swiss Canton of Appenzell is the holy land. While many things are called'rare' this truly is. I cannot say who the two woman depicted are. Although they probably do represent real life historical figures. Any one knows let me know) The needlework on the open areas is called Buratto work. This is a one of a kind piece( I have sold several thousand pieces of fine linen including Appenzell. But rarely is it found in the open market, so we don't know for sure. The owner of this piece passed away which is how it came to me. It is rich looking in person. And exhibits the tell/tale signs of the five petal flower. Beautiful quality vintage linen show towel from a recent estate sale. Measuring 21 x 33. With intricate embroidered details this Appenzell or Appenzell style towel has been gently washed to remove any storage marks or odors so it's ready for use. The only flaw I found was a single pin hole towards the corner of the towel where a tag had been pinned and a small area with a pulled thread. See my photos, they are part of the description. This is just one of many wonderful items purchased from a New York estate. Many of these items were from a 1920's era trousseau and had been in storage for many years. C1900 PAIR FIGURAL APPENZELL PUNCHWORK FINE LINEN SHOW TOWEL: Presenting a MATCHING PAIR exquisite linen show towel from the turn of the century that measures 23" x 15-1/8" and with a scalloped embroidered edging at both ends. This towel is probably European origin and consists of hand done punchwork and skillfully done satin embroidery. The hand done flowers and flora are raised. Stitches are precise and skillfully done. Beautiful floral garland surrounds dancing couple. Condition is excellent with no stains. No holes, and the linen is strong and washed and pressed. Appenzel show towels of this quality are hard to find from this period and this superb towel is a work of art. Would make nice addition to one's linen collection.
