English Chippendale Period Antique Ball and Claw Mahogany Game Table c. 1790
English Chippendale Mahogany Carved Ball and Claw Foot Game Table Late 18th Century. Circa 1790 Item# 130002IRP01 This is a wonderful English Chippendale Period Carved Ball and Claw Foot Antique Game Table. Late 18th Century c. 1790. It is a piece upon which no expense was spared in the production. As every design embellishment commonly associated with the period was executed on this piece. The mahogany top has a nailed quarter-round rim applied on both levels, opening on original brass hinges and untouched screws to reveal a replaced felt surface bordered by mahogany. It projects softly over the frame. This being covered in vertically grained mahogany veneers not just on the front and on the sides, but also along the entire back. This added expense of finishing the back leg surfaces and adding the thick veneers is typically superfluous and ... moreconsidered unnecessary, as the table would remain against the wall- this detail certainly hints this was a commissioned piece for a home of means. The frame is dovetailed pine, as evident when opening the rear gating-leg, the drawer blades likewise dovetailed on either side as they stretch horizontally beneath and above the drawer. The facade of the table has a single broad drawer in the center. The edges framed in tacked cockbead molding(absent on the right side) around the dovetailed oak secondary woods, the bottom crafted of five untouched oak boards nailed perpendicular to the face. The cast brass bail pull handle is absolutely gorgeous, an entirely original and entirely hand forged work of art still retaining it's original backplates, pins and nuts. The underside of the apron has applied gadrooned molding. Nailed every few inches from beneath with short iron nails, carved to match up with the outward flowing acanthus scrolls of the knee returns. The workmanship in the carved knees is exacting, the crisp flowing rococo lines simply sprawling over the sharp knees and down the leg as a natural outgrowth from the gadrooning. The softly cabriole front legs terminate in out

18th CENTURY CHIPPENDALE MAPLE FARM TABLE
18th CENTURY CHIPPENDALE MAPLE DROP LEAF FARM TABLE-EAST FAIRLEE VERMONT This offering is for a wonderful wide board 18th Century maple Chippendale table originating from the MacFarland Family of East Fairlee Vermont. This drop leaf gateleg farm table is completely untouched in its original surface. It has carved Marlborough legs. Pegged construction and its top is made entirely from heavy wide plank clear hard maple. Its legs are maple and its base frame is made of cherry. One side of the drop leaves as a slight typical warping. This does not effect the use of this table. Its top surface in this spot is still level. These wide board maple planks are susecptable to these issues when the table was stored in varying climates over the last few hundred years. Usually this happens very early in the life of these 16" wide plank maple tables. ... moreThis is a wonderful Vermont table with a rich history of a family that lived in East Fairlee for over a century. It is 49" long, 16" wide folded down, 57" long with the leaves locked up on its wooden hand carved finger jointed hinges and stands 28" tall. Someone installed caster wheels on this table around the last 19th century which have been removed. If you desire these wheels which will make the table an inch taller we will be delighted to reinstall a super quality set of brass casters or we will plug the bottoms of the legs as it as originally made. American Chippendale Period Mahogany Pie Crust Tea Table, poss. Southern States
American Chippendale Mahogany Pie Crust Table. Possibly Southern States Last quarter of the 18th Century. Hairy Paw Ball and Claw Feet Item# 130101RQY27 This is an American Chippendale Period Mahogany Pie Crust Birdcage Tea Table. Crafted during the last quarter of the 18th Century. Possibly in the Southern States. The bold turned baluster relates to many forms seen along coastal North Carolina. Though it is a difficult piece to attribute with any certainty as similar works are also found in Philadelphia. More research would be necessary to attribute the piece with any authority. A very handsome work. The top is crafted from a single board of mahogany, a broad piece measuring an immense 37 1/16" x 36 3/8" It's sharp and well formed rim is carved of the solid, and from all appearances seems to have been sunk by hand rather than ... moreby turning, the craftsman planing this board until the outer inches of the rim remained upraised. These would then be carved and chiseled until they took on the form you now see. This is a highly labor intensive process and is more generally seen from shops with lower volume of production. We believe this table was probably in rough shape at one point in it's not so distant past. A condition that required the restorer to take apart the birdcage(note the alterations to the birdcage) remove the old rails and replace them and restore the cracking and loss around the base where the legs join the pedestal. As a result, it is difficult to be certain that the top truly is original to the table, though we do believe it is after closely examining it. The slideshow has many close up pictures that will allow you to determine that for yourself. The birdcage mechanism allows the table to swing freely. A small wedge-tenon sliding into the crevice in the top of the pedestal to lock the entire device in place. The pedestal is bold with a wonderful swollen baluster over the tri-form legs, these joining directly into the base in broad dovetail joints from the underside, locked in place with
18th Century American Chippendale Drop Leaf Dining Table, Pennsylvania c 1770-90
Please note. We have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description: This listing is for an 18th Century American Chippendale Carved Ball and Claw Foot Drop Leaf Table. Pennsylvania, almost certainly from Philadelphia, circa 1770-90. Each board on this stunning table is fully solid single planks of Mahogany, each carefully selected for the best possible grains. They are hand planed to leave a flawless top surface, with an unfinished and uneven planed underside. The leaves hang from the table with hand crafted original hinges, uncommon with the pressure usually on these hinges, but a statement to the quality of craftsmanship in the piece. One hinge is a possible replacement. Still a period hand forged hinge, but of different dimension from the other three) The hinges are reinforced ... moreto allow originality and functionality at the same time. The top sits gracefully over its original frame. The frame has a most graceful form. With a flowing carved apron floating the front and back. The practical hand craftsmanship is obvious, where the cabinetmaker carved and finished the front of each apron, but left the back unfinished with evidence of chisel and knife throughout. Each corner is formed with a pegged tenon-mortise joint, while the frame- of primarily pine secondary woods- joins with dovetailed construction for a permanent build. The underside of the table is locked on to the top with original glued blocks. The frame sits over four cabriole legs, rolling with ease into the tendons and muscles tensed in grip. It has some of the most beautiful Philadelphia ball and claw carvings, with full details of the talons, stretched skin and sharpness of the grasping nails reaching around each perfectly formed ball. Small knicks and marks from the knife are still apparent where they carefully carved each foot. The piece boasts the most magnificent patina and depth of finish. With a deep glow and incredible oxidization throughout. Every part of this piece is a testamen

Rare Late 18th Century Georgian Chippendale Octofoil Tilt Top Birdcage Tea Table
Click for a slideshow of detailed pictures! Rare Georgian Chippendale Mahogany Tilting Tea Table England. Late 18th Century Octofoil top carved with fruit& foliage over fluted pedestal. Cabriole legs with acanthus carved knees terminating in ball and claw feet. Item# 120109PTE08 This is a rather rare form. Carved in the manner of Frederick Hintz tables, though absent of any brass inlay noteworthy in his works. The top is octofoil in form, featuring eight shallow dish spaces circling a large central dish space. A table of this form would typically be used as a dinner table, not for tea due to the oversized nature of the dished valleys in the top. Formed from a single piece of mahogany, crafting something of this nature was exceedingly difficult and likewise exceedingly expensive in the 18th Century. A work of this nature would be found ... moreonly in the finest London homes. Evidence of how it was formed is still visible in the piece, as you carefully look at the centermost point of each circular form- note the scar where the craftsman anchored his lathe to shave the perfect circle with raised molding. Each dish space is flanked by fruit carvings, each unique and different from the next- note the incredible crispness of each fruit, the attention to even the smallest details leaving identification of each fruit relatively easy: cherries, blackberries, raspberries, strawberries, and plums. The table twists freely a full three-hundred and sixty degrees on the birdcage mechanism. Formed of four columns that through-taper the top and bottom, between which the shaft of the pillar comes through and is locked on with an angular through-wedge. This wedge is easily removed, allowing the entire top to lift off of the pedestal. The pedestal shaft is turned and tapers broader towards the bottom, deep stop-fluting around the entire shaft. Three cabriole legs dovetail into the center of the pedestal, exposed from beneath and actually formed such that no three-way bracket was necessary to lock the legs permanently in place. The kn

It is a simply fabulous example of important period American furniture at its very best being offered at a fraction of it's true value. It is 17 3/4" wide, 33" long, 26 1/4" tall and 34" wide with its leaves locked in the up position. The pierced designs on the stretchers are extremely rare and very unusual. They are designed ... morewith the motifs of a saber, shield and mace. Further research has shown us that this stunning Pembroke table is a Windsor, Connecticut piece attributable to the Chapin School. We can safely state this but we are presently awaiting the schedualing the private viewing of one of the most important American furniture collections in this country over an appraisal of an Arcadia, Maine estate of immense historical important. We feel we will also be given the opportunity to answer some nagging question that have arisen since we encountered this Pembroke table with direct provenance to the famed Kaufman collection of Darrien, Ct. Once we prove what we highly now suspect this piece will be immeadiately pulled and sold in a venue befitting this piece of important American history. It's an amazing steal for what we know it is but after we have it properly atrributed and complete its vetting you know its value will increase ten fold. American Chippendale Antique Drop Leaf Dining Table, Pennsylvania or Delaware
American Chippendale Walnut Drop Leaf Dining Table. Pennsylvania or Delaware c. 1760-80 Probably Delaware River Valley. Originally One of a Pair Straight Marlborough Legs Item# 130002IWT18 The drop leaf dining table was a very prominent form in homes of the higher classes during the Chippendale and Federal periods. A working solution to the problem of balancing space with flexibility in a home that entertained company regularly. It allowed for tables to be posed as pier or serving tables against the wall, making the room large and inviting during a social engagement, these being brought out as needed to recreate a dining room. This table was almost certainly part of a pair originally. Two sets of bracket holes on one leaf evidence of clasps that would have attached to the leaves of the other table to create a solid surface. A pair of tables ... morevery similar in form, though crafted with solid board leaves, was offered at Christies in 2003( Lot 322. Sale 1189, sold as a pair for $13,145) Intact pairs of this form are rather uncommon as these were regularly broken up as they were passed down in families. The top is crafted of five boards butt-jointed with tongue-in-groove joinery assisting in all but one leaf. This probably a later solution to the uneven shrinking of the boards, secured from the underside with butterfly dovetails. The leaves hang over ruled joints, lifting on two swinging gate legs, the frame and knuckle crafted of solid oak double pinned to the square Marlborough leg. The oak rails are affixed with scattered rosehead nails to the poplar frame rails coupled with one original hand filed screw set in wells into the top on both sides, these boards joined to the mahogany front and back rails with exposed dovetails behind the gate legs. Three dovetailed walnut braces join the frame to the top, these absent several screws, the top likewise secured with three hand filed screws set evenly in wells through the mahogany front and back rails. A single thick walnut brace dovetails into either side of the botto

Very Fine English Chippendale Period Highly Figured Mahogany Slipper Foot Tilt Top Tea Table Third quarter of the 18th Century. C. 1750-70 Item# 110005LHP25 The grace of this piece is found in the highly figured top. A single solid plank of mahogany hand planed carefully to create a perfect smooth surface. A glowing deep patina shines through the years of waxed layers preserving the entire piece. Hand carved fully original cleats connect the top to the base, with four hand made screws that appear to be original, and two later replaced screws attaching the cleats to the original top. A replaced brass catch on the underside of the table top functions fully to secure the table in a resting postion; the shape of the original brass catch was circular, still evident as an impression around the current catch. The pedestal tenons through the square ... morebase. With the letters"DL" still visible at the tenon and in photos below. These could possibly be a signature of the craftsman who designed this table. The pedestal is carefully turned shaft culminates in a vasiform baluster, the three legs locking into the shaft with tight dovetail joints. The cabriole leg form is tight and sprung, the table almost poised to leap; the lines curve down and terminate in sharp well formed oval slipper feet. This is a fine piece for any home. Working easily in any number of design scenarios. In the upward tilted position, it is ideal to bring beauty to that empty corner or fill a long wall with two chairs on either side. Naturally, it functions wonderfully as a tea table or common side table, bringing elegance to any collection of furnishings. In very fine condition, with a deep glowing patinated finish and in a well preserved state, this is an outstanding find for the collector and designer alike. Measurements: Top measures 26 1/2" wide(along the grain) x 26" wide(across the grain- the 1/2" difference would be from shrinking across grains over time) 41 1/2" high in tilted position. 27" high in rested position;

English George III Chippendale Mahogany Tilting Antique Side Table c. 1760-90
English Chippendale Mahogany Tilt Top Side Table over Snake Feet Late 18th Century Item# 110005GFF25 This is an English Chippendale Mahogany Tilting Tea Table. Of the period c. 1760-90. Of remarkable weight, it features a single solid board top, hand planed carefully to create a perfect smooth surface. A thick varnish finish covers the entire piece, glowing on the top, with craquelure throughout the varnish along the pedestal and legs. The original hand carved cleats affix the top to the pedestal with a mix of a few remaining original hand crafted screws among later added screws. A brass catch on the underside of the table top still functions fully to secure the table in a resting postion, this appearing to be a period addition improving over the old catch system- originally a dowel likely joined through the left cleat into a hole in the ... morepedestal head to lock the table top in place. The pedestal tenons through the square base. Solidly locking these two critical components permanently[not the numerous repairs to the square head of the pedestal; this appears to be the original plank with later repairs to help secure it] The pedestal is carefully turned shaft ending in a carved spiral urn, then locking into the legs with tight dovetail joints. Cabriole legs curve down and terminate in simple oval slipper feet. A piece that has seen some life. This is a fine well crafted period tea table. From a conservation standpoint, it would be beneficial to have the current finish removed chemically and a shellac reapplied. It is a fine piece for anyone with a home of colonial or Chippendale design, a sturdy work that is fully capable of regular use in the home. Measurements: Top measures 30 3/4" wide x 30 1/8" wide(across grains) 44 7/8" high in tilted position. 27 1/2" high in down position; 26 1/2" distance between each toe Condition Report: Refinished. The thick shellac crackling throughout base and particularly evident on the legs; we would recommend that the table is refinished again eventually. Ch

New England Chippendale Birch Drop Leaf Table with Scalloped Leaves Circa 1780
New England Chippendale Birch Drop Leaf Table with Scalloped Leaves Circa 1780 Wow. Here is a very nice table from circa 1780. Recently picked it up at a high end decorative arts catalog sale in PA. The table was described as being ca 1780 and as being made in New England. What I think makes is quite unique is the scalloped leaves on the table. Have come across this design very rarely in my 35 years of furniture dealing. The table appears to be made of birch wood. You be the judge of the wood type. It just has a great sheen and glow to the tabletop. Check out the one pic with a shot of the entire top with the leaves up. Just awesome. Great legs on this table as well with the design of them, not just squared out legs. I suspect this table originally belonged to someone of some stature. The top has dowel plugs where the legs and frame are attached ... moreto it. One side of the main top appears to have been mended at one time and a nice job of doing it was performed. The main top where it was pieced together has the seams coming apart. That is not splitting of the wood. A good master carpenter could fix that issue quite easily. The table is 38.5" long by 14-3/8" across with the leaves down. The table is 27.5" tall. With the leaves up. The table is 40.5" across. Let us know if you have any questions or need additional pictures. Make sure that this table meets your needs and requirements before deciding to acquire it. The item can be returned. But there is a $300 restocking fee to do so. So again. Ask all questions you have, come see in person or send a friend to see the table on your behalf, prior to deciding to acquire it. This is a special instrument and I want to make sure it goes to a home that will appreciate it, so looking for serious inquiries only. The table is too old. Large and heavy for shipping safely via freight, so this table is for local pick-up only. Buyer is welcome to make their own packing and shipping arrangements as well. I will also offer to deliver the furniture to within 70 miles

Fine American Chippendale Drop Leaf Table w/ Ball & Claw Feet, Pennsylvania
American Chippendale Mahogany Drop Leaf Table w/ Ball and Claw Feet Probably Pennsylvania c. 1770-90. Shaped Apron Item# 100105QPP31 An exceptional work of early American craftsmanship. This is an outstanding selection for serious collectors of Pennsylvania Chippendale furniture. Each board on the table is fully solid single planks of Mahogany, each carefully selected for the best possible grains. Still a period hand forged hinge, but of different dimension from the other three) The hinges are reinforced to allow originality ... moreand functionality at the same time. Every part of this piece is a testament to the planning and

Fine American Chippendale Antique Card Table, Pennsylvania 18th Century c 1760
Fine American Chippendale Mahogany Card Table over Marlborough Legs Pennsylvania c. 1775-1785 in nearly untouched condition Primary Woods: Mahogany[tops. Primary case, legs, molding] Secondary Woods: Golden Oak[gate leg frame] Yellow Pine[back board of frame, runners, interior blocking] Cedar[triangular blocks under drawer bottom] Poplar[drawer sides and bottom] Item# 130108MWT12 This is an exceptional work of art. An American Chippendale Mahogany Card Table from Pennsylvania circa the last quarter of the 18th Century, likely crafted between 1775-85. The table is remarkably well preserved, almost entirely untouched other than regular maintenance of the finish through periodic and regular waxing- the finish beneath is possibly not original, or at least partially restored, but is very early and highly patinated. Every aspect of the table is ... moreoriginal, including the highly delicate C-Scroll returns that flank each leg- these are replaced or damaged with high frequency due to their precarious nature, particularly the left rear bracket, as this is only secured at the table frame and does not attach to the gating leg. Clearly the table remained in one area without being moved or roughly handled for much of it's life. The top is crafted of broad solid planks of mahogany. Each just under an inch thick and spanning the entire depth of 17 3/4" without a second board. The figure is warm and flowing, a rich pudding surface that is even more evident on the cleaner"game" surface. The top lifts over original hinges to rest on the gating back leg, this crafted with golden oak making up both ends of the knuckled board, tenoned into the rear left leg and pinned with two wooden pegs. A single drawer pulls out from the front with an outstanding Rococo pair of brasses, likely imports from England and fully original, the edge of the drawer lined with a thin cockbead molding to give shape to the drawer. The drawer is framed with poplar secondaries, the deeply chamfered bottom sliding into rabbets along the sides with
Rare American Chippendale Antique Table, Single Drop Leaf, Ball & Claw c.1770-90
Rare American Chippendale One Leaf Table American Black Walnut w/ Shell Carved Legs on Ball& Claw Feet Probably Connecticut River Valley. C. 1770-90 Item# 130309GZP24 A fine work of the American Chippendale period. This is an exceedingly rare form. Termed by Wallace Nutting a"Sideboard Table" the form is generally recognized as a One Leaf Drop Leaf Table, a piece intended for display against the wall with it's exposed apron facing out. As such, the front two legs are highlighted with beautiful raised shells while the rear legs are unadorned. Crafted of what appears to be[not micro-analyzed] an American Black Walnut of well selected flowing grain. The top board and leaf both display a wonderful ribbing at the center surrounded by wide flowing veins; similarly in the apron and legs, the veins are large and run in distinct ... morechannels in a way that enhances the cabriole of the leg and does not distract from the scrolling scallop of the apron. While single leaf drop-leaf tables are predominantly found in Massachusetts. This table exhibits every indication of being of Connecticut craftsmanship with the distinct influence of Delaware River Valley tradition in it's construction and form. The sides of the apron are recessed, the inner edges of the leg posts being thumb molded and flanking the inset apron and knee returns, clearly reminiscent of Philadelphia treatment of this leg[see Kugelman. P. 136, fig 3.5 for a discussion of similar features on a dining table with East Windsor CT provenance and likely origin] Likewise. The pinned tenon-mortise joinery in the frame and legs is borrowed from this region. The intensely scalloped apron exudes grace and liveliness with a repeating lobe flanked by a half step[for similar apron treatments see Kugelman. P. 88-91- those documented of Wethersfield, Connecticut craftsmanship] The purity of the craftsmanship is representative of a very accomplished artisan; every detail is perfected. Note the close up images of the underside of the returns; while usually these
English or Irish Chippendale Mahogany Tea Table w/ Ball Claw Feet c. 1755-85
Fine Chippendale Mahogany Shell Carved Tea Table Probably Ireland. Possibly England, c. 1755-85 Item# 130309DVH23 As one of the most beautiful and well balanced. Well proportioned and finely embellished tea tables we've ever carried, this is a rare and exceptional work of art. The top is a solid plank of mahogany with the rim scooped from the solid in a smooth curve. Projecting softly over the frame, the deep scalloping of the apron just dances and flows, greatly lightening what could easily be an overly heavy apron in the hands of a lesser artisan. The mahogany for the apron was chosen with care, the dense closed grain with a soft flow that follows the soft curve of the apron. Central to both sides of the apron is an applied shell carving. The table rests over cabriole legs with heavily carved acanthus leafage around a checkered knee, ... moreeach leg terminating in highly detailed ball and claw feet. The top affixes to the frame with original pine blocking, the underside of the top being inscribed illegibly. Almost certainly of Irish origin. Though possibly of British origin with Irish influence, this table remains in simply outstanding condition. Preserved and original in every way, this selection is sure to delight the most serious collectors of fine English furniture. Measurements: 30 1/4" wide x 19 1/2" deep x 27 3/4" high Condition Report: Some sunbleaching. More notable to one shell carved side than the other three sides- this side likely was facing forward. Finish preserved under later layers of wax. Light losses to edge of one shell, though the front remains crisp and well presented. Lip of top is patched in one section with a 4 5/8" long patch. Separation at one joint revealing the tenon joinery inside. All glue blocks are original, one missing, eight reglued with carpenter's glue in the last decade. Underside is inscribed illegibly. Old yellow label underneath. Sturdy, stable and overall in very fine condition. Please review all images in the slideshow for a full overview of condit

English Chippendale Antique Game Table, c. 19th Century w/ Marlboro & Serpentine
English Chippendale Style Mahogany Game Table Composed mostly of 18th Century Elements. Probably c. late 19th Century Item# 130009GDJ23 This is a beautiful antique English Chippendale Style game table. In our assessment crafted during the late 19th Century out of parts of an earlier table- the result is a piece that closely resembles a period game table, with entirely hand chiseled and oxidized framing and structure, while lacking the authenticity and historical value of such a piece. These forms should be looked upon as a hand crafted reproduction, the old elements disregarded and the form judged on aesthetic qualities alone. As such, it is a very attractive little table, the solid mahogany top with a soft reverse serpentine that is mirrored in the apron. The apron along the front and sides follows the form of the top, the underside with ... morewonderful scrolling that flows directly into the well molded Marlborough legs. The back leg swings back as a support for the flip top, this revealing on the top an old faded leather surface for playing cards; at the same time, by opening the back leg a hidden drawer is revealed. This drawer retains an old yellowed note, supposedly bearing provenance of belonging to the author's great-grandfather- names are illegible to us. Not a form for serious collectors or those seeking any historical significance in their works. It is a decorative form that is very well crafted and is absolutely gorgeous. American Chippendale Mahogany Pembroke Breakfast Table Philadelphia c. 1790-1810
CHEST OF DRAWERS ANTIQUE CHAIRS TABLES BRONZE SCULPTURES FINE PAINTINGS SCHOOL OF ORIGIN SUBJECT LAMPS. LIGHTING FINE AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY ANTIQUE BREAKFAST TABLE Philadelphia. Pennsylvania c. 1790-1810 w/ Molded legs and Domed Saltire Stretchers Item# 1401NVP18PS This is an exceptional American Chippendale Pembroke table. Crafted with a very dense and vibrant grained Cuban mahogany top. The flow of the grains is incredibly attractive, the intense ribbing through the center made accentuated by the smooth straight grains along the edges of the leaves. Lifting over triangular wings that easily swing from their resting place integral with the frame, the surface is broad and highly functional. Both leaves retain their three original hand forged iron hinges. A single drawer eases in and out of the front of the table with a brass bail ... morepull(replaced) the drawer front framed in an applied cockbead molding around most of the dovetails of the front joint. The bottom is deeply chamfered with triangular blocks set in the bevel to secure the drawer bottom firmly. Finishing the lower edge of the apron on both sides of the table is a thin tri-bead molding over the tapering Marlborough legs embellished with scrolling returns with a shapely"domed" saltire stretcher joining into the legs with a tenon; these lift vertically in a cyma-curving climb embellished by offset scrolls above and below each stretcher until they ultimately join half-lapped centrally. Truly eye catching are the crisp fluting and perfectly tapered form of each leg, this executed on the front and side of each leg with the interior corner being bevelled and interior sides left plain. They are sharp and very fine. The quality and craftsmanship in this fine piece is above reproach in every way- precise joinery and perfect carving have resulted in an investment grade work of art. For any serious collector of American furniture. This is an exceptional find. Notes: Fine Points of Furniture: Early American. Sack, p. 249- noting under"best"

English George II Chippendale Walnut Ball Claw Antique Drop Leaf Table c. 1760
GEORGE II WALNUT DROP LEAF TABLE OVER BALL AND CLAW FEET England. Mid 18th Century, probably c. 1760 Item# 411BIR15P This table is noteworthy for it's very attractive size. The depth and quality of the patina and finish and the particularly handsome feet. Resting over handsomely carved ball and claws, each foot is full of life with the raptor talons stretching around the oblong sphere, the sharp nails cut with utmost realism as they scratch at the floor over the taunt tendons that extend through the leg of the foot. The two drop leaves and the top are crafted of solid planks of walnut(possibly a blonde mahogany finished in a lighter pigment, though the swirls of grain suggest walnut without doing any more specific testing) the edges of the top ruled to allow the leaves to easily lift over their original wrought iron untouched hinges and ... moresettle into place without a gap. These rest on gating legs, the swinging leg with an oak or elm secondary wood tenoned into the leg and pinned in place, rotating on an angular knuckle joint with a steel rod anchor. The frame is pine, dovetailed along the exposed gating edge and pinned in the stationary legs with later added blocking to more fully secure the joint. The result is quite effective, the table having remained in pristine condition after well over two hundred years of active use. It is particularly attractive as a console, stationed against the wall beneath a portrait or mirror in a hallway or side wall. However, it still remains a very practical and useful piece in it's original function, as a breakfast or gaming table that could be easily opened to entertain company and then put neatly away against the wall after the morning tea or evening festivities were complete. For any serious collector of fine English furniture, this is a pristine example with very minimal restoration and an absolutely gorgeous patina that will certainly be a cherished part of your collection for a lifetime. Fine English George II Chippendale Mahogany Ball Claw Antique Game Table c. 1730
EXCEPTIONAL ENGLISH GEORGE II MAHOGANY BALL AND CLAW GAME TABLE With turreted corners. The top with candle holders and chip wells, remaining in outstanding condition England. C. 1730 Item# 411JPY15X This precious example of English craftsmanship is exquisite in every way- no expense was spared in what was almost certainly a commissioned piece. And clearly great care has been shown in the handling of the table over the last two hundred and eighty odd years. The top of the table is turreted to conform with the form of the apron, being planed from a single plank of handsomely grained mahogany. It lifts over original hinges on the sides to lower onto the rear legs, these pulling out of the frame on lopers to create a four legged table structure. The result is a very stable card playing surface, which probably accounts at least partially for the ... moreexcellent state of preservation we find in it today. The card surface is a green felt top(replaced and discolored) with candle holders on each turreted corner with four chip wells sunk into the top. Finally, the top also lifts over original hinges to reveal an interior compartment for storing games. The apron is veneered with vertical grained mahogany. The centermost with an original pierced brass escutcheon around the keyhole. The table is raised over bold cabriole legs with the most wonderful acanthus carving along the front knees- these carvings are deep and fluid, full of life and realism, both tapering into the leg which terminates in elegant carved claws grasping a sphere. The underside of the table reveals oversize blocking inside of the front legs with all returns original but one(rear left leg) For any serious collector of fine English antiques. This is an outstanding investment grade acquisition that in every way elevates whatever interior it becomes a part of. It is exceedingly beautiful and in very fine condition- it will certainly be a most cherished part of your collection. Literature: British Antique Furniture. John Andrews, p. 288- a very similar exam

Rare American Chippendale One Leaf Antique Sideboard Table, Connecticut c. 1770
RARE AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE SIDEBOARD TABLE WITH ONE LEAF. CONNECTICUT C. 1770-90 With Shell Carved Legs on Ball& Claw Feet Probably Connecticut River Valley. C. 1770-90 Item# 130309GZP24 A fine work of the American Chippendale period. This is an exceedingly rare form. Termed by Wallace Nutting a"Sideboard Table" the form is more generally recognized as a"One Leaf Drop Leaf Table" a piece intended for display against the wall with it's exposed apron facing out. As such, the front two legs are highlighted with beautiful raised shells while the rear legs are unadorned. Crafted of what appears to be[not micro-analyzed] an American Black Walnut of well selected flowing grain. The top board and leaf both display a wonderful ribbing at the center surrounded by wide flowing veins; similarly in the apron and legs, the veins ... moreare large and run in distinct channels in a way that enhances the cabriole of the leg and does not distract from the scrolling scallop of the apron. Fine American Chippendale Walnut Dining Table, Pennsylvania Antique c. 1760-70
The drop leaf table was a very prominent form in homes of the higher classes. A wonderful solution to entertaining regularly in the home. This table whole part of a pair originally, only a little part missing on the bottom of one leg. Construction: The top is crafted of five boards butt-jointed with tongue-in-groove joinery assisting in all but one leaf. This probably a later solution to the uneven shrinking of the boards, secured from the underside with butterfly dovetails. The leaves hang over ruled joints, lifting on two swinging gate legs, the frame and knuckle crafted of solid oak double pinned to the square Marlborough leg. The oak rails are affixed with scattered rosehead nails to the poplar frame rails coupled with one original hand filed screw set in wells into the top on both sides, these boards joined to the mahogany front and ... moreback rails with exposed dovetails behind the gate legs. Three dovetailed walnut braces join the frame to the top, these absent several screws, the top likewise secured with three hand filed screws set evenly in wells through the mahogany front and back rails. A single thick walnut brace dovetails into either side of the bottom of the frame, reglued during the 20th Century. This form is less than typical. One that does not appear on the market frequently. Crafted with the clean simplicity we cherish in works of Chester County and the Delaware River Valley, the table is free of embellishment or unnecessary decoration- a well patinated surface shows great character, this emboldened by the strength and masculinity of the block feet. It is a piece you will cherish in your collection for a lifetime. Materials: Oak(outer rails. Gate leg frame) Poplar(sides of interior frame) Walnut(front and back of table frame, all leaves and legs) Measurements: 49 1/2" deep x 43" wide x 28" high; leaves are 17" in depth. Condition Report: Finish is somewhat early beneath many layers of later wax. Though the surface has much variation of color, including scars, abrasions and other u
English Chippendale Mahogany Ball and Claw Antique Drop Leaf Dining Table c 1780
ENGLISH CHIPPENDALE MAHOGANY BALL AND CLAW DROP LEAF DINING TABLE Late 18th Century. Probably c. 1780 Item# 411ECP29P This attractive table was crafted during the last quarter of the 18th century. Probably in England though possibly in Ireland. The incredibly wide solid mahogany planks making up the drop leaves and the top of the table are absolutely gorgeous, each with vibrant swirling grains and retaining a deep ruby color. They swing over ruled joints on period wrought iron hinges. It rests over nicely carved ball and claw feet with rather precise details- a previous owner obviously wished the table to be slightly higher to accommodate chairs, and as such had the balls finished with 1" carved pads from beneath. They were clearly quite careful about preserving the feet, not altering the carvings but rather simply applying these beneath ... morethe table. Two legs swing outward to lift the leaves of the table comfortably, making the table a rather substantial dining room piece that should be able to comfortably seat six to eight guests. This is a particularly useful form for homes where dinner parties and family gatherings are common- it can serve very attractively as a console table in the dining room or a behind a centered sofa in the living room. But when an excess of company comes over it can be brought out as a full dining table. This flexibility is what made the form so prominent during the 18th century, where entertaining large groups in the evenings was very common. Measurements: 28 3/8" H x 22 3/8" D(with leaves down) x 50 5/8" L; 65" total depth when leaves are opened; 22 1/2" H to the underside of the frame Condition Report: Top is probably a period replacement. As hinge out out on underside of one leaf does not match the hinge well of the top. Surface overall is in good condition, though one leaf has some areas of clouding and a circular bloom in the shellac from a hot object placed there. Minor use indicators(scratches, nicks and abrasions) as expected. A splicing repair to the

Antique New England Chippendale Game Table, Gate Leg, Flip Top, Late 18th Cntry
Antique New England Chippendale Game Table. Gate Leg, Flip Top, Late 18th Century ~ This is a beautiful antique table that has all the great features of the classic American Chippendale styling. It has been comparison dated as a late 18th century creation. As a 215 year old antique table. That has had frequent use in the early half of its life I'm sure, there are signs of wear and age. Some of the wood plugs that covered the fasteners in the legs and top are gone revealing what's underneath. There are some separations of the table top from shrinkage, and some cracks and nicks from accidental or careless bumps. The three stationary legs and their corresponding table rails are strong and solid. The gate leg has some loose joints, but functions well. The table appears to be cherry and perhaps walnut. The four straight legs have a fluted ... moredesign. The single drawer has brass hardware and single dovetail corner construction. The drawer bottom has a hand milled single bottom board. One back, bottom corner of the drawer has chipped away revealing small square nails used in the construction. There are recessed original brass hinges on the table top, and the gate leg mechanism is all hand crafted wood. The out of sight underside has rough honed lumber with evedance of worm holes. Please review all the photos carefully and send in any questions you have. In addition I can send you additional photos and a pre sale inspection is recommended and welcome.
